In this video I'll show you how to play the popular hymn #AmazingGrace by J#ohnNewton on the #harmonica.
This tutorial is for a harmonica with ten holes.

The tutorial is great but to me it sounds better at a lower pitch. I learned it and played a little lower on the harp. It gives it a much bluesier sound lower down the registrar. BTW I was using a G harmonica. You made it very easy, Thanks!
Hey, you should check out my updated version of this tutorial in my playlists... when I made this one I made a mistake and taught it in the wrong key, which just so happened to work with a C Harmonica!

how do you play 1 number at a time
+oii m8 it's meh hey sorry for taking so long to reply! It takes a lot of patience and practice and there are three techniques I know of, one is to fold your tongue to create a sort of tunnel to blow through, the second is to practice making your lips into a small "o" and the third is to turn the harmonica slightly to the side so your lips work as barriers against blowing into the other holes... Go to the channel learntheharmonica.com too, there's a great tutorial there for it. Good luck!

Hey, that's another one I've been meaning to get round to making! Unfortunately it's just me making these and it takes a few days per video and I've got over 50 pre recorded narratives I"ve got to get through :( As for single notes, it really is a matter of practice! Hi. Thanks for the lessons. I am a total beginner on harmonica. Play drums and guitar. I would like to play this song in the key of D (so that I can sing it and accompain myself on the guitar e put the harmonica in the beginning). Do I start on the D hole? (it is a C harmonica). So i found a harmonica in one of my drawers and decided to play it. I have an issue though, my notes go up rather than go down when breathing in like yours do in the video. It is like a 6 dollar harmonica so that may be the problem. I just noticed it trying to learn this song.

Perhaps it’s would be a little easier to color code the notes in the illustration as either red (flor blowing through) or blue for (breathing through). That way when practicing, you can tell immediately whether to blow in our breathe through without looking for arrows as well. Just a thought, thank you.

Also do you have a link to the song so I can listen to it? I think I know the song you mean, but I just need to make sure we're thinking about the same song :)

I think you should learn them together, like maybe draw a little diagram for yourself of your harmonica with the numbers and then label the notes for breathing in and breathing out

Why 12th position? I think it sounds much better in first position. It can even be played in first position without bending, but even that sounds too high for me. It can be played in first position an octave lower, which sounds much better, but you'll need either a paddy-richter tuned harp, or the ability to bend the 3rd hole draw a full tone. I'm not very good at bending, so I use a paddy-richter harp.
Hey, I can't bend at all! The aim of my series is to do basic lessons for beginners... to be honest though my main instrument is the piano :p
Even though I took several years of piano lessons, my piano skills are quite basic, or maybe even less-than-basic. I've never been able to coordinate the two hands well enough. My main instrument is the violin, but I had to give that up about 8 years ago because of my arthritic shoulder. For someone who doesn't bend, I highly recommend the paddy-richter tuning. The only difference from the standard richter tuning (on a C harp) is that where the richter tuned harp has G repeated in the bottom octave in both 2 draw and 3 blow, the paddy-richter tuning makes the 3 blow an A. There is still an F missing in that octave, but I haven't really missed it.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! My great grandfather was a violinist and also played the accordion, I think that's where most of my interest in music comes from. I've also been teaching myself classical guitar for over a year, hope to start incorporating both guitar and piano tutorials on this channel eventually!

@@KerinGedgeI just noticed you responded to someone else with a similar request. Just red letter for blowing and blue for breathing in. But I know the editing would have taking longer. I wrote it all down with the letter and number along with an up or down symbol too. Thank you for your video. I'm going to practice. Much appreciated
It's probably something I'd consider later on when I have a faster computer... unfortunately I use a MacBook which is over 7 years old now, desperately need to replace it but can't afford to.... 😜

woulndt it be easier to just put up coloured numbers instead of notes? it would be easier for those that still dont have the notes mapped out
Hey, yeah I hear what you're saying but I teach the way I learnt, which is why it makes more sense to me to do it this way. As a pianist I learn everything on the piano first and then translate it to the harmonica, and so it begins with the notes for me. Not sure if that makes sense but I guess I approach the harmonica as a pianist and not as a harmonic player :p
makes perfect sense. piano is also my first instrument and i find i turn to it to work out the notes for all my other instruments. in my opinion there is no better foundation instrument than piano :)
The piano is the only instrument I truly "get" to be honest :p

+Ryan Balara is your harmonica a diatonic with 10 holes? I have two harmonicas in the key of c, one was a cheap $10 one and the other a marine band... The $10 sounds so bad I threw it away, you might be having a similar problem?

im very bad, sorry ,I appreciate your video but mabe a diagram is easier with the numbers written out and arrows showing breath In or out on the number,swap the alphabet (CEG)for numbers(,6 ,) kind of thing,written out .thank you anyway ill wright mine out , but thats easier to see, and learn to read to play maybe,just my oppinion ,sorry I know its an irritating comment maybe I dont mean harm.thank you for the notes and sharing your video I do still appreciate it★☆♡ill still be checking out you other lessons.
Hi, yeah i hear ya... thanks for the comment but i teach the way i learnt, i dont use tab in the conventional sense. What your looking for exists on many blogs and web sites... whereas this medium, video, in my opinion, is not the place for still images but movement and noise. In the end we all learn differently and this is just one way to do so.
Sorry if my reply sounded annoyed, it's just how I sound when I reply to comments first thing in the morning :p Anyway, the thing is I have a unique learning style and I don't get much out of tabs myself, but lucky for you there are many many teachers out there who do! Good luck!

Most people reading this can't read music. So let's get to the point of playing a song. First of all you should play the song in it's simplest form so the person (people) will know what they're going to play. Let them hear the song. I tout my girlfriend to play Twinkle twinkle little star. You know: 4 blow 4 blow 6 blow 6 blow 6 draw 6 draw
Yeah, I get what you're saying... the reason I did it this way is because I'm really a pianist who taught himself how to play the harmonica... so when I play harmonica I approach it as a person looking at a keyboard.... Just because something is in the key of c doesn't mean the song will start with c... however in this case I got the key wrong, see description for an explanation
