    I've always wondered how these were fitted, I'll be honest I wasn't expecting a big chunk to be cut out of it. I wasn't expecting it to be plastic either! You'd need to be really brave to do this to your car but it's worth it in the end, much better than the offset rubbish.

    • @L663
      @L663  5 лет назад +2

      We did look at trying to make another design with no cutting needed but it was really hard to come up with another design - as you say its kind of painful but worth it in the end. And although its brutal is made easier by the fact that its a plastic tailgate. We have sold out of these so there is market for them !

      @@L663 Whilst I am okay with the design and for reasons I've noted in a different comment here, I couldn't do it if I wanted to; I think it is a great option for those who would prefer to modify the rear look of their vehicle. As you, I understand why Land Rover did this, but I would agree that it wasn't particularly well thought out. I hope that they will return to the split tailgate as in the new 2022 Range Rover, with the ability to open only the top section if in a tight parking space.

  • @OnlineHousehusband

    Nice idea but in reality most of these cars will be bought on PCP and who would take a jigsaw to the back of their Disco 5 just to give it back in 3 years? Humm I think it’d void your warranty.

    • @henryhol8538
      @henryhol8538 5 лет назад +2

      One option is to get a used tailgate from a scrapyard, modify it as shown here and fit it to your car, whilst storing your original so it will be replaced when time comes to return the car. You may even be able to earn some coin from selling your modified tailgate afterwards.

      henryhol8538 again as has been said most of the people that would be leasing these vehicles wouldn’t know the difference between a spanner and a screwdriver, they wouldn’t have the first notion how to under anything in this video or be bothered about fixing the rear numberplate.

      @henryhol8538 5 лет назад +3

      @@peacockealot You cirtainly have a point. The change will come in the near future: when these are bought as 3 year old used cars. That is when you will see a lot of the conversions being done.

    • @peacockealot
      @peacockealot 5 лет назад +3

      henryhol8538 I doubt even then most of the people again that would be buying it as a second hand car would fit this. Perhaps a few Land Rover enthusiasts might but in the main I’d say the plate would stay in the factory configuration.

    I quite like the offside numberplate, and the real reason was because the older 4s had square number plates but the 5 didn’t get it. Put a square on it and it’ll transform.

  • @andrewjones-productions

    For someone who has severe OCD, oddly enough, the offset number plate doesn't bother me. I suppose it is just as well, as here in Japan our rear number plates are screwed on and the authorities seal the left screw with an official metal cover. That makes taking off the number plate impossible. The upside is, they are American like in shape, which sort of fills the gap a bit better than the long shallow (in height) rectangular plates which are typical in the UK and Europe. To be honest, I am more bewildered with Land Rover's decision to add such a large single piece door and then add the internal drop-down 'pseudo' tailgate, although I am glad it is fitted. I would have much preferred a split tailgate to be honest.

      @@L663 totally agree you would be amazed how many people have said "didn't like it at first but growing on me like it now"...designers love heritage that's why the Ferraris and Porsche 911 stay true to their original concepts. I have had many vehicles in my time all top end from Range Rover Autobiography 5ltr Toyota Amazon Landcruisers etc this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned (apart from my Porsche 911) but the Disco 5 is accomplished as an all-rounder gliding you to your destination in massive comfort and opulence and when it needs to can wade in a metre of water its fantastic.
