Hey Tony! Thanks for the very helpful video. I installed my A129 Pro Duo 4k following your process... mostly. Actually, I'm lazy and scared to take my truck apart so I ran all wires between liner and other trim. The wire can be completely hidden, even around (above) the passenger doors under the rubber door seal from the inside. No need to remove any trim, not even around the driver door. I left the extra rear camera wire tie-wrapped to a metal loop behind my passenger side rear seat. One thing I should point out: Each fuse receptacle has a +12V side and a load side. I checked mine with a meter. Those fuse taps should be installed so the hot fuse pin receptacle is "opposite" the tap wire. Having the tap wire sticking out to the left works with F66 for BUT F33 has its +12V on the left of the plug. That tap on F33 should be inserted so the wire is to your right. If you put the tap in F33 receptacle with wire to the left, the power to the camera will have to pass thru BOTH fuses. Not a big deal unless the camera plus normal load exceeds the 10A fuse rating.
Thank you very much for this amazing video. Man the dash cam saved my life when an old lady hit my car. She changed the store when I police arrived to the seen. I was so stunned when I was hearing her explaining the accident to the cop.
Nice video. I wish I found this video before I installed mine. For the back camera I used the right angle end to the camera and the straight plug into the front camera. That way you can bring the rear camera right upto the ceiling. The wire can go along the window chanel. You will need to make a wedge for the rear camera since the top of the rear window has a slight curve inwards. I just cut one of the extra adhesive pad in half and added it to the top of the adhesive pad so the top of the camera is further away from the window. Otherwise the plug will push against the window and will not work. You can run the wire along the headliner and the rubber gasket. It took less than 10 minutes to run and you don't need to remove any interior trims.
Thank you VERY MUCH for making this video. I followed your video to install the A129 Plus Duo in my 2014 RAM Express and it came out perfect. The instructions for going though the door jambs were invaluable. My install required going though the firewall to get to the fuse box, but other than that I was able to utilize your instructions totally. You did a great job explaining and showing every little step and I truly appreciate it. Great job!
Tony, thank you very much for the great video. I genuinely appreciate that you took the time to go through the trim removal and cable routing. While I could have likely figured it out on my own, I appreciate that through your effort and sharing, I got to have a beer and enjoy the process vs. rage drinking and yelling obscenities in my driveway as I tried and failed over and over again until I figured it out. Awesome. Realised something after removing the Passenger side grab handle and weather seal. You can actually run the whole cable in the roof liner once you remove the weather seal, less risk of breaking teeth on the covers and floor panels. I ran the “L joint” at the back then worked the straight joint through the roof liner and central pillar between the rear and front door.

After using your video I figured I’d better say thank you. I wouldn’t have bought and installed a camera in my 2017 RAM 1500 without being able to see it done first. So thank you for the time you put into this and for sharing it.
Hello Tony, you did an excellent job. Did you set off the cut off switch at 12v so your truck battery don't drain. I have a sedan so I set mine at 12v. Mine dashcam works excellent. I had it for 4 years now.
I appreciate the detailed video! I've finished installing the rear camera to the front, but when I went to install the hardwire kit I noticed that the fuse box on my 2014 ram 1500 Laramie is located in the engine bay next to the battery. How can I deal with this?
You’ll have to tap into wires inside the truck that have power and ground, or run the wires through the firewall to get to the battery. There’s usually some rubber plugs in the firewall with other accessories run through and you can typically utilize those spots to run the wire through.
Thank you! Your video helped me out tremendously installing a similar camera in my 2021 Ram. BTW... the 12V socket on the dash stays HOT when the truck is OFF.
Do you have a video on how you removed the rear view mirror housing/shroud? I’m looking to install my dash cam with a power adapter that plugs in under the shroud but I don’t know how to remove it and don’t want to break it.
Unfortunately no I never messed with mine and I actually don’t have the truck anymore so I can’t check lol. If you mean just the trim piece that goes against the windshield, those usually just clip off. The actual mirror housing itself I’m not sure.
Very clean install. I have the same camera hardware previously installed on my '14 Ram, now going into my '19. Came here looking for where you sourced your power. Only difference I had on my '14 was I went in the headliner for the rear camera, down the passenger side. Not sure if I will on the '19 or go through the door thresholds like you did. Thanks for the excellent video quality and very good explanation as you went along with the install!
I would recommend wiring it along the roof liner instead of my method in hindsight just because I feel it’s more direct and uses less cable. Probably less messing around, too.
I'm currently trying install on a 2014 ram 1500, but the fuze box is under the hood. What did you do for that when you initially installed it on your 2014?
@@MrSlimJimProductions I had previously installed a Pioneer head unit that needed switched and battery power. I figured it had to be in that harness adapter, so I poked around with a test light and found what I needed there. Not real difficult. Much easier than finding a way through the firewall.
Dont know about this model, but some cameras you can invert them. That would allow you to get a bit higher up on that rear camera. Not a huge deal though. Also I like how you have 14 air fresheners

I have the 2021 version of your truck, same camera, and I just tucked the wiring for the rear camera into the headliner, ran it all the way around the headliner to the camera up front. Use that grey tool to tuck it under the headliner. Slack (about 2 feet) was tucked into the A pillar. The cig lighter on the top center of the dash on my truck is always-on. Thanks for the link on the hardwiring kit. I will do this.
Yeah I only went with the hardwire kit because the wire dangling down to the power outlet would drive me crazy haha. I had the same idea to tuck the wire around the headliner but that was after I already did it my way 😂
Thank you for making this video! It's super informative since I want to do a similar install with a Nextbase 522GW with Rear Camera and Hardwire Kit. You've got a new subscriber 💯
Dude, you did a quality install. Although perhaps next time, you’ll wait until you install the back wire to the rear camera first, then set the back rear camera to the window. To rid that pinch of wire between the window seal over interior molding. It works! Instead of hard wiring, I’m considering using an exterior power source such as a Cellink Neo to run the parking mode or to run another camera. I currently drive a Toyota Prius and a hard wire is NOT recommended because it’s a hybrid and any messing around with the electrical system will cause problems with the system. Not worth it for me. I’m just looking for the plug into the cigarette lighter as a power source, then run that external battery when the car is off and set into park mode camera. Thanks for sharing your video dude 👍🏼
Yeah, in looking at your install I have to hook up the hardwire out into my engine bay I wish that my fuse box was inside behind the dash but it's no problem because I can run it through the firewall, my plan is to install mines tomorrow. I have look at video after video so I want run into any problem but so far I think that it's a piece of cake.
Thanks for the vid! Just got a '15 Ram 1500 and am going to get the exact same dashcam. Great explanation on the hard wiring, complete newbie on fuses and wiring and no other vids on youtube go into as much detail as you did on this part of the installation. Greatly appreciated!
Great video, I have a CC ram 3500 and I was thinking about running the cable up top instead on the bottom. I don't have mines yet but I will be ordering one soon. So how you like it so far?
Tony I purchased the same equipment I have 2019 ram 2500 virtually the same application, my question is what time frame should I expect. That was the only thing I couldn't tell was how long it took you
It really depends on your experience and skill level. Also, it was about 90 degrees and humid when I did mine, so that slowed me down haha. Also, if you run the rear camera wire along the headliner instead of along the floor panels like I did, I think you could save a fair amount of time. If you have this video at your disposal and all of the parts you need, you could probably get it done in 2 hours or so. Definitely get it done in 1 evening easily. Routing cables is the most time consuming part.
Is that the foward collision warning sensor behind your rearview? If so does the dash cam interfere with it? I have FCW on my 2019 2500 Ram and I remember the dealer being mindful of putting stuff mounted on the windshield near it, I had to hold my ezpass up when I used it until I got a mount and it set my auto braking off and almost shit my pants going through a toll booth and wound up getting a license plate mounted ezpass because of it, but I have been trying to figure out how to mount a dash cam since
No my truck doesn’t have forward collision. Usually that sensor is located in the grille but not sure on the Rams. I believe the one on my truck you are talking about is for the automatic wipers. Even though I’m pretty sure my truck doesn’t have automatic wipers 😂
Good video, well presented. I appreciate you showing the rear camera installation, most of the videos do not. I’m curious why you didn’t go ahead and use a OBD2 cable?
2 questions. 1 how has the camera been since you installed it? any issues with the cameras them selves or any of the functions? 2. I would like to know why a 10 amp fuse you fuse tapped into verses a smaller one like a 5 when the camera only needs 3.1 amps? thank you for your time and you just added a new subscriber.
Cameras have been working just fine so far. And I tapped into the 10A because those were the first ones I found with ignition power and constant power. Also the camera and fuse holder kits did not come with any 3A or 5A fuses.
Great choice.. I have the exact set. Hardwired to use the parking mode. Installation was easy...the only hideous part was to tuck and hide the excess cables. As for the rear cam, I used the 90* connector end toward the cam itself, that way I can raise the cam higher toward the slide rail and run the cable within the slide rail and the rest to the pillar. Much much more cleaner look...you dont even see the cable connector on the rear cam.
Pretty happy with it so far. Only issue is I’ll hit the manual event record button and then go back and check the locked files later and it will have locked the footage right after what I wanted to capture. Gotta play with it some more.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy yeah....play around with the features....so many useful... one feature I would recommend NOT to use is the re-format feature....every 60 days or so it will beep the hell out of it reminding you to reformat the card.....WHY??????? lol. I used the 256GB card, so I will never have to worry and hd space, reformatted once..Done...no need to reformat again.
yo dude, I have a 2020 ram and I'm stealing some of your mods. super useful vids!! I seem to have a problem with the cam not staying on after I go from "engine on" to off.....did you have that same problem?? also it seems that the settings don't seem to stay set...did you have any issue with that?
Haha good! Mod away! Do you have the same cam as I do? I noticed that unless you have it hardwired in, it doesn’t save the settings. I’m not having any issues with that now that it’s hardwired. My cam DOES shut off when I shut the truck down, but I have the G-sensor and motion sensor on. So if anything moves or if the truck gets hit, the cam starts recording. I might actually turn the motion sensor off cause my memory card keeps filling up with a bunch of useless 5 minute videos of a squirrel walking by or some tree branches blowing in the wind and I even have it on the lowest sensitivity setting.
Excellent video , but why remove the panels ? You don’t have to do that , just run the wire in to the door sill and why don’t install the rear camera in the middle the rear window and don’t open that window ?
Because what’s the point of having a rear sliding window when you can’t open it? 🤣 As far as the panel removal, yes, you could just run it along the headliner or something, but I prefer my cables and wiring to be completely enclosed. My luck the wire would pop out of the headliner.
So, I got all of my parts from your links and got both eh front and read camera wires ran through the headliner, only thing left to do was pull off knee bolster.... Much to my surprise there is no fuse box sitting there. Not sure why they would have changed locations. I saw someone else post that they have the same truck (2020 Ram 2500 Laramie) and did the install just fine. Now I am at a loss as to what to do...
@@dustintrott776 Sorry I missed that in the first comment lol. The 2500's and 3500's must not have the fuse box behind the knee bolster. Pretty sure it's under the hood on those ones. So you'll have to check the fuse box under the hood to find a switched power and constant power fuse slot that you can tap into, then run your wires through the firewall to the dash cam. Usually there's some other items running through the firewall, or some rubber plugs that can be removed to run your wires in.
I don’t believe it shows your coordinates on the screen itself. Mine just has the date on the bottom left corner. But when I put the SD card in my computer and watch the actual file, it lists more info at the bottom. I think there’s just not room on the screen.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy Hey tnx, I just fixed it.... by disabling & enabling back GPS on the cam.... and after that my footage shows my gps geolocation in lower left corner as well as vehicle speed!

Any time! I highly recommend you get the 1080p version though and save yourself $100 unless you’re insistent on the 4k. It just takes up so much space and doesn’t seem that much better.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy I'll tinker with it and see what it comes out like. Thehard wire cable is back ordered for a bit, so I may be doing it in stages anyway
Did my install yesterday - took under an hour thanks to your super clear instructions! My 2020 Laramie had a few more fuses, and the box around my mirror was bigger, and slightly trickier to route cables into, but otherwise pretty straight forward. I chose to run my rear camera cable across the top of the truck, and pulled the rubber seals off to give me access to the headliner - super neat, and left me with tons of slack.
Very informative and difficult to do with two let alone one! Well made up my mind, this is something I will pay to have done because it looks like a pain in the ass to install!! Haha
Good instal, but so much easier to run through the head lining, just pull the door rubbers down 6 inch or so and feed through the liner, hiding excess cable in the liner. full instal in 20 mins, done it on 3 cars now.
Great video(thanks for doing something), I just don't get it,. Manufacturers not offering a decent video system but are able to sell you a 1000000. Vehicle , anything over 15k needs one
Yeah I haven’t even been using the 4k front to be honest just because the file sizes are so huge and there’s not a big difference in my opinion between the 4k and 1080
Can't you put the rear cam upside down and rotate the image in the settings...🤔? PS... Why didn't you run your rear camera cable above the head liner along the passenger doors? Awesome vid tho......
If the parking mode is enabled, it automatically starts recording when movement is detected even if the vehicle is off, so long as you have it hardwired like I do.
Not sure exactly what they are for without unscrewing the panel and checking or if the owners manual says. Just used those because they are constant and switched power sources which is all you need
@@usmarinenapinoy I’ll have to check when I get some free time, need a screwdriver to remove the panel and I’m currently just getting to work but I’ll get back to you. Mine doesn’t really matter though, your fuse box will be different.
In the 2020 Ram Laramie 1500 the cigarette lighter on top of the console is a direct to the battery outlet meaning it always has power. My question is if I plug my camera into this power outlet will it kill my battery if I’m driving regularly ?
As long as that power outlet doesn’t cut power after being parked for a while, that should work. I just didn’t want a wire dangling down my windshield is the main reason I hardwired mine.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy it was so annoying having to unplug my viofo every time I turned the car off, but the simple fuse relocation allowed me to keep it plugged into the cig lighter. After watching your video, I’ll need to hardwire now!
It never leaked to my knowledge, but the rear window frame was cracked and was replaced under warranty a few months ago. I'll have to check it again now that you mention it lol.
I didn’t see them specifically in the website, but I’m sure somebody online sells them. It is JUST long enough though, and you’d have more slack probably if you run the rear camera wire along the headliner instead of the floor trim like I did.
Does anybody have any issues with the 12v dash outlet providing power to the dash cam even when the truck is off? I don't know if it's the truck or if the dash cam I have that's constantly pulling power. Obviously I can't keep it plugged in, am I the only one?
It’s definitely not the camera, as it can’t just magically pull power from where power is not supplied lol. That being said, are you using the upper dash 12v like I did? Also what year is your truck?
I actually have awful luck 😂 which is why I’m surprised it worked after the firmware update. Weren’t you talking with the me a week or so about the same issue? Or was that on another video? I thought it was you I was talking with and you were going to contact customer support
Is yours hardwired in like mine? Also how are you confirming that it isn’t going into park mode? My screen stays black when I’m parked and I think only like 1 of the little red LED’s stays on or flickers in parking mode. I’ll have to check when I come home from work tonight and see what it does.
@@fignewton22of2015 That’s very strange...I’ve not had that issue. I’d contact whoever you got it from and see if you can exchange if you’re positive you tapped into the same fuse as me.
Any tips for the f66 fuse? I have everything plugged in, but when doing a function check, the camera won't turn on. When I plug it into the cigarette lighter portion, it powers on. I have the Mico fuses, with 2 red 10 fuses, with the yellow wire crimped into the r66 fuse slot. I believe I'm doing everything correctly, but nothing is working. Any tips? Thank you in advance
Hi there! just a few quick questions here to get started. Are you using the Viofo hardwiring kit like I have, or are you doing your own wiring? Also, I ASSUME you meant that you have the yellow wire crimped to the F-66 fuse slot even though you said R-66? Just double checking we are tapping into the #66 fuse slot and not a #66 relay slot.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy My apologies, long day trying to install lol, and yes I'm using the hard wiring that came with the camera that's exactly like yours, and yes the F66 fuse slot
@@Faded_Shadow0721 No worries! Very strange. What year is your truck, and are you sure the add-a-fuse prongs are long enough and actually getting into the fuse slot and making contact with the fuse box pins?

Again both 10 Amp, original furthest from add a circuit prongs, new closer (according to the hard wire instructions) so I may need to replace my add a circuit, or hard wire kit, unless you have another idea?
@@Faded_Shadow0721 I would use a cheap test light or multi-meter and verify that you’re getting power at the F66 fuse. Maybe they changed something between 2019 and 2020 for some reason. That’s the only thing I can think of if your add a circuit is for sure making good contact. And I’m not sure if it matters but I’d set the voltage selector switch on the hardwire harness to the same setting I had mine on
I just installed mine and searched to see how everyone else did it. Juts had enough slack on mine too. But I went on top. Was a pain getting the cord behind the roof liner though
@TonyTheTruckGuy only thing that annoyed me was I don't have a fuse in the cab of my truck. Which was dumb..don't know why they skipped that part on 4th gens
Not sure what you mean, but the only thing I see dirty was the floor mats, and I don't see how that has any affect on the video. Why didn’t you use a “?” at the end of your question instead of a “.” ? 😂

I’m just looking for the plug into the cigarette lighter as a power source, then run that external battery when the car is off and set into park mode camera.
Thanks for sharing your video dude 👍🏼
Haha thanks! Yes I did learn a few things during this install that will help for the future.
What about recording both front & rear cam simultaneously? Is there separate video files on MicroSD card or picture-in-picture one video file...? Tnx!
It records the files separately instead of Picture in Picture.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy Tnx !!!!
Just know that you’ll probably have to tap into different fuses on the 2015 but otherwise pretty similar steps.
Fantastic video. Very informative. You’re videos are always great 👍. I’ve been contemplating on a Dashcam and know I’m confident to DIY. THX😎
Thanks!
Great video, I have a CC ram 3500 and I was thinking about running the cable up top instead on the bottom.
I don't have mines yet but I will be ordering one soon.
So how you like it so far?
A glitch here and there, but overall I like it for the price. You could run the wire above the headliner instead.
Thanks. Nice detailed and explanation!
Good video, well presented. I appreciate you showing the rear camera installation, most of the videos do not.
I’m curious why you didn’t go ahead and use a OBD2 cable?
VIOFO does not offer an OBD2 cable to my knowledge and I’m not sure if a universal OBD2 to micro USB would work or not.
I've been manually reformating my card because that's the only way I can figure out how to delete locked files lol
@@TonyTheTruckGuy yup..unfortunately it's the only way

Video was a big help. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
How did the camera do over the winter with the cold temps?
No issues so far! Even the sticky tape held up.
Hey Tony - this was super helpful and thorough, used this on my Thinkware U1000 setup. Cheers!
yo dude, I have a 2020 ram and I'm stealing some of your mods. super useful vids!!
Nice information on how to remove panels! I can’t stand them and always end up breaking clips and push pins 🤦♂️
Always the best intros! PARKWAY DRIVEEEEE
Haha hell yeah! 🤘
What year and model is your truck?
@@TonyTheTruckGuy 2020 Ram 2500
@@dustintrott776 Sorry I missed that in the first comment lol. The 2500's and 3500's must not have the fuse box behind the knee bolster. Pretty sure it's under the hood on those ones. So you'll have to check the fuse box under the hood to find a switched power and constant power fuse slot that you can tap into, then run your wires through the firewall to the dash cam. Usually there's some other items running through the firewall, or some rubber plugs that can be removed to run your wires in.
I enabled GPS and stamps on the video but I have no Geo-location in bottom left corner on my A129 Pro, why ???
I don’t believe it shows your coordinates on the screen itself. Mine just has the date on the bottom left corner. But when I put the SD card in my computer and watch the actual file, it lists more info at the bottom. I think there’s just not room on the screen.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy Hey tnx, I just fixed it.... by disabling & enabling back GPS on the cam.... and after that my footage shows my gps geolocation in lower left corner as well as vehicle speed!
@@Gajbotron Awesome, glad you got it figured out!
I’ve got the 2019 bighorn quad cab so hopefully I won’t have the same length issues whenever I get my dash cam.
You should be fine. Also, running the wires above the headliner instead of going along the floor like I did would save some length too.
Very complete install video ! You sold me on my choice of camera. Thanks so much for the list of extra parts also .John campbell Fox Island Washington .
Any time! I highly recommend you get the 1080p version though and save yourself $100 unless you’re insistent on the 4k. It just takes up so much space and doesn’t seem that much better.
jesus finally a helpful video
😊🙏
Thanks. I have a
2020 ram rebel and this video help lot with the installation
I have a 2020 Laramie, and looking at this exact dash cam - great info on wiring the rear camera and how tight it’ll be - good to note!
You could also probably just run the rear camera wire above the headliner if you wanted to avoid all the floor trim panels
@@peeceejay Awesome! Yeah I figured the roof wiring might be easier haha. Glad it went well!
Thanks for the video. I’m but this in a 2020 this weekend.
Yeah not sure why I didn’t think of that. Maybe I thought the cable would rattle or something but I would definitely recommend that method now.
Hey could you please show the settings you have used for the camera
I just have mine set to 1080p front and rear with loop recording on 5 minute loop and the parking sensor feature is on
@@TonyTheTruckGuy why not 4K on the front?
@@wilkinfong7875 Honestly don’t see a difference in quality and it takes up way more space and more time to transfer files
Great video(thanks for doing something), I just don't get it,. Manufacturers not offering a decent video system but are able to sell you a 1000000. Vehicle , anything over 15k needs one
When recording with both cameras you get 4k front but limited to 30-fps. Still very good
Yeah I haven’t even been using the 4k front to be honest just because the file sizes are so huge and there’s not a big difference in my opinion between the 4k and 1080
Can't you put the rear cam upside down and rotate the image in the settings...🤔?
PS... Why didn't you run your rear camera cable above the head liner along the passenger doors? Awesome vid tho......
Yeah, but what’s the point in that?
@@TonyTheTruckGuy I was just thinking of the cable .... Now that I think about it your right...lol
If the camera is only on when the vehicle is on, how would you keep it on for a traffic stop when you need to turn your vehicle off?
If the parking mode is enabled, it automatically starts recording when movement is detected even if the vehicle is off, so long as you have it hardwired like I do.
Great video! Thank you!
What are the F33 and F66? I have a 2016 dodge ram 1500 sport...installing the same setup as you have with the dash cam.
Not sure exactly what they are for without unscrewing the panel and checking or if the owners manual says. Just used those because they are constant and switched power sources which is all you need
@@TonyTheTruckGuy could you check underneath the fuse box cover? It should have corresponding markings on what each fuse is for? Thanks.

I just didn’t want a wire dangling down my windshield is the main reason I hardwired mine.
check owners manual, I moved a fuse over and now that cigarette lighter only gets power when the ignition is on!
@@wilkinfong7875 Guess I haven’t checked if my cigarette outlet still has power without ignition, but I never use that outlet unless it’s running
@@TonyTheTruckGuy it was so annoying having to unplug my
viofo every time I turned the car off, but the simple fuse relocation allowed me to keep it plugged into the cig lighter. After watching your video, I’ll need to hardwire now!
@@wilkinfong7875 Yeah I couldn’t stand the wire hanging down so that’s my main reason for hardwire lol
Your rear window leaking yet?
It never leaked to my knowledge, but the rear window frame was cracked and was replaced under warranty a few months ago. I'll have to check it again now that you mention it lol.
Where did you get the add a line circuit fuse holder?
Nevermind, I found your list. Thanks
Just on Amazon. All product links down in the video description 😃
Do they offer line extensions for the rear camera
Man I think I’m just gonna feed the wire through the gaps I can see 😅 I’m not big on messing with the airbag securement and all that lol

I have the same dash cam and same set up. On a 2020 ram. The dash cam will not turn into "park mode" when truck is off, any ideas?
Is yours hardwired in like mine? Also how are you confirming that it isn’t going into park mode? My screen stays black when I’m parked and I think only like 1 of the little red LED’s stays on or flickers in parking mode. I’ll have to check when I come home from work tonight and see what it does.
It looks like when my truck is parked and locked, the far passenger red LED on the camera is solid and the far left hyper-flashes
@@TonyTheTruckGuy it is harderired like yours. All 3 lights stay on. So after a day or so the camera has to be unplugged and replugged in to work
@@fignewton22of2015 That’s very strange...I’ve not had that issue. I’d contact whoever you got it from and see if you can exchange if you’re positive you tapped into the same fuse as me.

YES! Haha
@@TonyTheTruckGuy My truck is a 2020 1500. The add a circuit should be the the proper size, Micro NOT mini. I push it in until secure.
