    I’d say lana’s music is definitely an acquired taste. I first heard lana back in 2015 and thought she was mid, 2016 and I liked one song which was young and beautiful. I tried to listen to ultraviolence around 2017 and got bored. 2018 I listened to born to die paradise and I fell inlove and just got what it was that made her special. Norman fucking rockwell came out and that solidified lana as one of my favorite artists of all time.
    I guess what I’m tryna say is her music definitely ain’t for everyone but the artistry has always been there and sometimes that draws people to her.
    (P.S I went back and listened to her entire discography after NFR and now I love all of them)

    So glad you're embarking on a Lana deep dive! I've been listening to Lana for just a few years now. She may take a little time to get into. But once you do, it will be like 'Where have you been all my life?' She's a brilliant artist and poet. It's little wonder that Taylor worships her. If you're going chronologically, don't forget to listen to the Paradise EP next (which includes "Cola", a song Lana has "retired" because it mentions Harvey Weinstein) and the "Young and Beautiful" single (one of her most popular tracks) before digging into the Ultraviolence album. I know you said you found Ocean Blvd. boring on first listen....It may grow on you and should be AOTY. The more you know about Lana and her personal life, the more you'll appreciate the songs. Even the weirdest ones are autobiographical to some degree. She also frequently references other songs and literature in her lyrics (e.g "fire of my loins" is the opening passage from Nabokov's 'Lolita'). It's fun spotting the references. 😊

    actually this album has had a massive resurgence the past few years and when it originally came out it wasn’t necessarily received well, now people seem to enjoy it more and critics like pitchfork & rolling stone are even re-scoring it to higher ratings and the songs almost tripling in streams the last 3 years even though it’s a decade old album. just goes to show why it’s the second longest charting female album of all time just behind Adele’s 21. anyway finally you listened to lana!!!

  • @shizuma30
    @shizuma30 Год назад +4

    I feel like you’re going to have a hard time getting through her discography tbh. Born to Die is her “fastest” album imo, the rest are a lot slower.
    Most of her work are highly personalized ballads sung to the backdrop of whatever genre of music she feels like. She’s always had the 50’s lounge singer vibe though and it’s not for everyone. Especially if you like fast paced music.
    Wiki has her down as Alt-pop, Lana called it Hollywood Sadcore at the time, which was fitting because she used to say she wanted to be dead and thought about death endlessly. Her work touches on a lot of darker corners like abusive relationships, addiction, mental illness, death, etc…
    It’s not a requirement to have dealt with those things to listen, but a lot of her fans love her so much because she sings very prettily about the awful and painful things they’ve also felt.

    I'm not about to stop you from making 9 pretty fun videos.... but you probably only really have to do one for Born to Die, Lust for Life, Norman Fucking Rockwell, and then maybe give Ocean Blvd another shot. (I'm still undecided on it, frankly) There's good stuff on all her records, but those first 3 are the heavy hitters, not necessarily the "Fan favorites" but certainly the biggest commercially and critically.

    • @HappyNBoy
      @HappyNBoy Год назад

      I know Ultraviolence gets a lot of love from the LDR fans, but it's honestly pretty mid. it's just that after Born to Die came out and became a big influential hit, everyone was so excited for more Lana, that they didn't really care that it didn't have any of the highs of the first record, it was MORE!
      And, loving Dan Auerbach as much as I do (The Black Keys might be a top 10 band for me), his production is not nearly as interesting as Born to Die. It gives up the most exciting production choices for more straight ahead blues-rock styling. I will admit that the lyrics may be slightly better... but it's not her best work to date. If you weren't listening to it in 2014, I think it's a skip, honestly. Or for fans that want more, rather.

    Lol don't post the reaction if you are gonna dislike majority of her songs. You gonna get the wrath of Lana stans. With her, either you like it and into it or you don't and think her songs all sound the same.

    for me, Lana has songs which i love but unlike other artists which i enjoy their albums in their entirety despite skips, her albums really have me bored through the middle and enjoy just a few tracks at the end- dare i say, she has unreleased songs i enjoy more than the released ones sometimes 😅 i guess she has a sound that doesnt always works for me but when it does, it hits hard like i adore diet mountain dew, dark paradise and summertime sadness from this album! but the rest is so forgettable to me and like this is her most acclaimed album u know? that makes me sad 😭 but maybe she'll grow on me ig

    If u like this more than tunnel under ocean blvb I can already tell lust for life is gonna be for u… paradise ep is also necessary to listen to! I assume next will be ultraviolence reaction. I love this album but when I first heard it I hated it 😭💀… my friend overhyped this album so I went in having high expectations just to be let down… after a week I ended up liking it… now I love it though

    i think norman fucking rockwell should be next but you probably should pay more attention to the lyrics and her slower songs sometimes need more to grow on you but it will worth to pay attention if you ask me!!! her songwriting i think is the best at norman fucking rockwell and ocean blvd so you should really take your time with them ok love you bye

    U not liking tunnel under ocean blvb is understandable and I respect that but godamn… this is the only album I’ve actually ever cried to why u got to do it like that 😭…but to be fair that’s mainly cuz I listened to it during a time where I reconnected with family and it was during a time where songs like Kintsugi hit hard

    i love Lana, but i can't freely recommend her songs to my friends and everyone cz i know Lana isn't for everybody which is unfortunate. she's not like Ariana, Taylor or Olivia who's everyone can easily enjoy listening.
    but somehow this is makes her stands out as an artist, she have the ability to embrace who she is and walk in her own path. she's not trying to shine, she's just like writing and singing.
    i know this is your first reaction, Ocean Blvd is sooooo special like other album by Lana. every album suppose to take the listener to certain vibes, place, and mood. even tho you give us your honest opinion, its still bothered me😂 when you said Ocean Blvd is boring (my heart broke!) not to force you to liking it tho.
    i'm not ready for this journey, especially with Ultraviolance, Honeymoon, and Norman fucking Rockwell!. NFR is the only one album that help me go through quarantine time, if someone doesn't like it. I don't like her/him too😤😭
