My sister in law was just complaining about daycare costs in the Detroit area. I had both my kids in Seoul and didn't have the heart to tell her how much my daycare costs us.
I'm about 45 minutes North and it's crazy expensive up here too. I honestly can't afford it. We have to work opposite shifts. It sucks bc we hardly ever get time together as a whole family
@@eee5448 Yes & No. It's very gentrified rn. My family lives in an amazing neighborhood in the middle of the city. These are homes built in early 1900's, 1910's& 1920's that CEO's, doctors & other wealthy people lived in. People have a lot of pride in their homes and they have an annual tour of the homes that attracts thousands of visitors. They have a hired security company to watch over the neighborhood & everyone knows everyone. But there's also certain things my family does- like theres no knive block. The sharp knives are kept in seperate drawers in the area that the maids would've brought the prepared food to before serving the home owners- which isn't a typical place someone who breaks in would look for a weapon. Just little things like that they've learned over the years. Detroit has definitely earned it's reputation but there are also people trying to bring it back to it's original glory. Also, a lot of times "Detroit" is easier to say than the 100's of suburbs in the metro area.
They are geared to that as a candy and a whip kind of thing. When they've gotten a little older they will be force to aim top universities, if not by the parents, it will be the society and the school.
@@davoodoh3137 even if they didn't the competitive nature will get them in some ways. It's not uncommon in that region of the world that you not passing an entrance exam on a nationwide aptitude test, well make you an incompetent and looked down upon. So most people do strive for it whether they like it or not, especially in societies where your social standing is more important than anything.
Sad part is, an overwhelming majority of daycare teachers are living in poverty because childcare is one of the least paying jobs in America. Speaking from experience, working 55 hours a week with no breaks for a 7.25 an hour pay really does not do much in terms of making the bills. Not only have I worked in daycares, my mom worked in daycares when I was growing up and she still had to hold at least two jobs at once because she didn’t make enough. It’s just sad how little childcare workers are paid for the amount of pressure and work put on them.
I recently quit my daycare job because it was just mentally draining. I was working over 50 hours a week for only $14 an hour. I was thrown into a classroom without any training besides whatever online certifications I took. Each day I was there from 730 am to 6 pm (sometimes later because even though we closed at 6 some parents wouldn’t pick their children up until 630 or 7). Constantly being thrown around to different classrooms to cover for short staffing even though I wasn’t comfortable and had no training. Each day was physically exhausting. 2 teachers to watch over 8 toddlers just wasn’t enough. And a lot of the time children are hitting or biting each other. You have angry parents that feel you aren’t doing enough for their children. Like we’re trying our best but we’re extremely overworked and underpaid. We need help BAD. Not to mention most days we didn’t get a break because we were so short staffed we had absolutely nobody to come in and cover. So going a full 10 or 12 hour shift with little to no break. And people wonder why daycare is so expensive. Yet we’re still underpaid.
@@alyssapfaff1519 completely understand. This daycare I worked at had 2 teachers, with no certifications or training, with a room of 18 toddlers. We were incredibly understaffed and overworked. I eventually quit because of the mental and emotional stress there, I was 19 and in college when I worked there. Not worth it honestly, but I felt so guilty when I decided to quit, I felt like I was leaving those kids behind. But I had to get to a point where I realized that they weren’t my responsibility, and they would be fine without me.
@@darbibroadus6838 yes! The mental and emotional toll it takes, nobody warns you. The director made it seem like they were an amazing place to work for and that they really took care of their workers. But between me constantly getting sick from the kids and barely ever having time off to take care of myself, it just wasn’t worth it. Leaving definitely broke my heart but they were all so young they’d never even remember me. But I will always miss certain kids. Those little hugs and runs to the door excited to see me really made my day.
My son was in Korean day care when I was stationed in Korea. As a foreigner, I had to pay the full amount but it was still an amazing deal. He also had only 8 toddlers in his class with 2 teachers and the care was far superior to anything we found in America short of a private nanny.
"Yeah, those are Communists over there, the state pays parts of their expenses! Super grateful that we’re able to live this life, I know others aren’t lucky enough to have the choice. As a teacher in the childcare industry, it make me happy to know that the Korean Government supports families financially. Financial supports relieves centers from having to charge high tuition rates and gives them the opportunity to actually pay their employees decent salaries. Childcare workers in America are severely underpaid, understaffed, and burnout which often leads to high turnover rates. Childcare is so crucial for working parents and guardians. I wish the US government and society better understood childcare. We need more advocates as we help to foster healthy development amongst new generations.
Fully agree with this. I’m on a program to get help from my county to pay childcare. The owner of the daycare I use made sure to tell me that they only get paid 70% for my child and others like her through the county. Others parents pay full cost, so basically I’m an unworthy second class citizen to her. Like it’s my fault the county isn’t paying her a normal rate. Nevermind that my daughters father is no where in the picture, which is out of my hands, or that my business almost completely tanked during Covid, since I’m a private practice massage therapist. We’ve definitely had a high turnover at the daycare/preschool as far as teachers go. The ones that are there seem kind of under qualified too.
As someone who’s working in childcare, this is so true. The daycare/preschool I work at we started losing staff because we are so underpaid and we were already understaffed before which burned out a lot of us. Wish the government actually cared about the people who lived here🥲
It’s not that the US government doesn’t understand childcare. US government is made of parents. It just doesn’t give a sh*t. It’s a choice, not lack of knowledge.
yes,yes it is. this is why it's called liberal democracy and not social democracy like in my country the help her is shitty and can be much better but like i ain't gonna be broke form going to the doctor, in the US it's "please F yourself, you need to pay a lot" (*i know there's social security in the US but still...)

@@cclee6987 thank you for explaining that to me. I understand completely, and it is still nonsense. In western society, when the nuclear family is intact, no support is necessary. Daycare in the US is literally messed up. My mom stopped taking my brother(4years old) to day care since he got a huge injury for hours and the daycare didn’t want take him to the hospital and waiting for my mom to pick him up after work to take him herself. While in the hospital my brother confessed that the staff cut his hair because it was long and left him outside. Even babysitters can’t be trusted.
This is how I feel as well. My son is now 4, I used to work in the education system so I know the bts. I do not want to place my son just anywhere; I want him to enjoy his experience and actually learn in the process. But they’re expensive in LA. I don’t want us worrying about the other students or teachers abusing him. It’s so scary/stressful to even imagine someone harming my child when he should be learning.
It’s actually a safeguarding issue if the daycare workers took the child to the hospital themselves. But they should’ve called your mom straight away, not just wait for her to come.
That's why I send my kids to Korea during every summer vacation. Kids learn Taekowndo, Ice skating, swimming, art class, clay, math, english class, coding, golf, and piano. The Gospel of Salvation/Warnings JESUS CHRIST is the only Lord and Savior this whole creation needs. Please turn to Jesus Christ and get saved now while his grace is still merciful for he is coming soon! John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”. Isaiah 45:18 “For this is what the Lord says- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other”. Deuteronomy 32:39 “See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand”. Philippians 2:8-11 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. JESUS CHRIST WAS GOD IN THE FLESH; Son of God. John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”. John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth”. How to get SALVATION (be saved): 1. Admit that you are a sinner. Romans 3:32 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death”. 2. Believe that Jesus paid for your sin at the cross. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. Romans 6:23 “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus”. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” 3. Confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and commit your life to him. Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. 4. Repent (What does repent mean and do? To repent is a change of mind, that leads to a change of heart, that leads to a change in actions. This “change” involves both a turning from sin and a turning to God.) Mark1:15 “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Luke 13:3 “But unless you repent, you too will all perish”. Acts 3:19 “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”. Once you come to Salvation then comes baptism. (Baptism is an act in which symbolizes one’s renewal/purification and becomes a child of God with the power of the Holy Spirit through water, whether the water is poured on to the forehead or one’s body is immersed into it. This symbolizes the death of our flesh with Christ and our new life through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.) Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Galatians 2:20 “ I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 3:26-27 “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” 1 Peter 3:21 “And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” WARNINGS!!! Anyone who does not have Jesus Christ will always be condemned and their righteous deeds are like filthy rags. Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit”. Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away”. Do not worship/sacrifice to other gods; you will only bring harm to yourself. Jeremiah 25:6 “and do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands, and I will do you no harm”. Deuteronomy 8:19 “It shall come about if you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish”. 1 Corinthians 10:20 “No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons”. TAKE HEED NOW!!! Jesus Christ wants you to have a personal relationship with him. He cares and loves you more than his own life that he gave it up for you to be saved. Jesus Christ is the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind; to atoned away all of our sins with his precious life and blood, that we may share in his Kingdom (1 John 2:2 “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world”). Jesus Christ is not about being religious but to be in unity with him and allow him to deliver you from the bondage that this sinful body (flesh) is doomed for; eternal hell (John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him”). Only through Jesus Christ will you ever get to heaven (John 10:9 “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture”). Seek Jesus Christ only: no other gods can save you from God’s wrath. God’s wrath is not a joke or to be taken lightly (Hebrews 10:31 “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”). Remember he is our Creator and all things are possible with him (Matthew 19:26). May God bless you and soften your heart to discern the truth that is in Christ Jesus, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings; the Savior of this world.
I'm not only impressed with the price but also the activities, the wholesome meals, the toys that they'll send home with your child, the extra classes that are so beneficial to a child's development and when you pick your child up from daycare, they're probably not exerted with high amounts of energy from not having proper activities and exercise, fed snacks and given drinks with high amounts of sugar, which equates to energy spurts. My sons were always so hyper after picking them up from daycare and even though I was very particular where I sent my sons, made sure they were learning, eating and were able to have playtime, as well as, nap time, their daycare was so expensive and certainly wasn't as great as daycare in South Korea and I'm sure there's daycares in SK that aren't as great as others yet the fact the government helps parents that are working, they pay most of the daycare costs and you're able to send your child or children to a very good daycare!!❤️

When just looking at one comparison it does seem like Korea is a lot more affordable. But I lived there as a full time Sr. Designer and project coordinator and made $1,300 a month. My partner was a Sr software engineer and made $38,000 a year. (Both considered mid to high paying jobs). You need to take into account overall salary and other costs of living factors. Their current minimum wage is just under $7 as well. Housing costs per sq m is way higher. In Seoul, a 100sq ft studio apartment ranges from $400 to upwards of $1400 a month depending on amenities, location, deposit, etc.
I would say is comparable. Federal minimum wage is still 7.25 in the US, I will say US homes and apartments do tend to be bigger, but the prices are still similar. The big difference is in Korea you're paying like 200 to birth the kid and the government gives you basically a baby basket. The US gives you nothing and it can be anywhere from 1k to 20k to birth a child here depending on your type of insurance, so you get that medical bill on top of your existing expenses. Where as in Korea 200 to 300 isn't putting you out to bad. And finding a daycare is hell in the US and 381 is the bare minimum and it's usually for the week not month so it's about 1500 a month which is a freaking mortgage in some places. All in all it' easier to have a kid in South Korea than the US, now that they overturned Roe V Wade they are basically forcing ppl to have kids they can't afford with barely any government assistance.
The high cost of living is one of the biggest factor why the birth rate in Korea is so low. Therefore all the government benefits exists, and its still not enough for most people to get married and have even a single child. The land is also quite small compared to population and they are jobs only in the major cities. So higher competitve rate for jobs, housing, even better schooling (need money or located in rich neighborhoods) is much higher. Seoul ranks in the top 20 of expensive cities to live in the world.
@@sandylovelast1687 depends what state you live in. I have family that live and work in Midwest and it’s so affordable and proportionate with salary compared to cost of living. I don't need to pay for bills or anything like that, but being able to have enough to save up for a car, college, school stuff, and still be able to have extra left over for hanging out with friends is amazing. I still feel like it’s horrible the government doesn’t support children or there parents unless you are literally below the poverty line and barely making anything, but there is always solutions to problems and many different ways out of conceiving a child.
@@user-tl5mf5ve5y my grandparents bought and build their home for less than 200k. That same home is now valued at more than 1.3m with homes being auctioned on the same street for as much as 2.5m. Renting an apartment costs more than a home loan repayment. With how everything has inflated it is only for those who earn above average to raise a child here with the expenses, or rely on family for help which is not always an option. With most of the money going into housing alone you can see why people would hesitate, let alone all the other expenses
@@user-tl5mf5ve5y perhaps you should consider people have experiences outside of your own. I am speaking of my own country: education here is free or for tertiary education not a crippling amount. If you wish to live in a home, whether that be rented or bought you will have to sacrifice (this naturally gets more extreme the cheaper the place): internet quality if there is internet at all (so no online jobs), well paying safe jobs, contact with friends and or family, reliable sources of food and water, as well as education. My friend moved out to a place with 2 beds 1 bath that costs 500 a week (for reference city rent is 750 or more for that unless it's a bad location which is very rare), where the closest school is 1 hour away and the internet is so unreliable they might as well not have it. Sure people have it worse but this situation is ridiculous and housing concern is the number 1 reason people in my country put off having children. This same friend, mind you has a child with multiple disabilities where the closest school that is suitable for his needs both physically and academicly is more than 2 hours away, the specialist doctors he needs to see monthly are even further. If renting was cheaper I'm sure less people would hesitate due to concerns of the locations that may potentially be needed to help with their child.
@@user-tl5mf5ve5y bro we already have billions of people living in this earth. Why make more?? I'm glad that a lot of women aren't forced to have kids anymore and have the choice to focus on themselves their careers and make their own decisions and besides there are still many who wants a family.
I quit working outside the home and opened my bookkeeping and word processing service in 1993 because 3 boys in preschool and after school daycare, plus expenses of working, like lunches out, dress clothes, donating to every fundraiser and chipping in for coworkers birthday gifts, I was making much more, just enough to put us in a higher income tax bracket. I worked from home and when all the boy were in scI was able to work for one client at their office, then they let me telecommute. I was able to write off my business expenses and charge what I wanted. Sounds like you have a good deal with the government paying for your preschool. I love your US/So. Korea comparison videos.
My mom owns an in home daycare and she doesn't charge as much as entire daycare centers do yet people still complain about how much she asks for. I understand it can get annoying but we need a good amount of money to live on, my mom only makes around $18 an hour with all 8 kids which isn't a lot especially with all the prices rising.
@@laurynhampton941 it depends on where you live and your age, $18 is barley anything to live on with two kids (me and my brother) especially in America and with all the prices rising not to mention it's barely enough for the house bill, if you work in a daycare center it's more understandable though because there are more workers and help. But with that money here it would be better just to work at fast food so ce you can make more doing that again depending on your age.

In Brazil, It costs $0 to send your child to daycare from 7AM till around 7PM. It includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks (usually fruits and crackers). My brother is currently 4 years old, and he goes to one of these public daycare. He has english classes, he paints and is learning the letters, also he goes to ocasional field trips. My parents contribute with R$50 (about $10) a year and art suplys, but this is optional. Since the government doesn't give these daycares all the support they need, the school also organize events to raise funds. But it's not like these all around the country... I'm very grateful for this support we get in my hometown.
When my children were young (6 weeks-13 years) my daycare started at 80/week. It went up a few years later to 100/week. And this is for TWO children. They were given hot meals and snacks as they got older and they also had a large fenced in yard. For an extra $40 a month they had preschool classes until age 4. The school bus picked them up and dropped them off if needed. In the summer, the city pool was nearby and they walked to it on safe back roads. There was also a little pond close by and they got to go fishing! The workers were like aunts and grandmothers and my children always came home clean. I cried on their last day, as it was a wonderful experience! Small towns can be pretty darn great! This was 1988-2004
I work at a daycare and our prices start at $140 a week and goes down in increments as the child ages because the older they get the less we have to do for them & we are open 6:30am -5:30pm Monday-Friday
Wow in 1990 here daycare was 4$/day/child (80$/month) and now in 2022 it's gone up to 8$/day/child (160$/month). There is no need for buses as the daycare "must" take children from their zones only (quarter mile radius) and parents must pick up their child.
In sweden, it depends on your household income and how many kids in the family. For example we have two toddlers and household income is in the highest bracket (high household income) so for 2 kids, we only pay 100usd++ per month for both kids (i dont know how much exactly bcs my husband takes care of that 🤪). That includes lunch and 2 snacks and they go from 8am-4pm. You pay much lower if you have low household income. I think that’s amazing bcs then everyone can afford childcare.
They only care about the “baby” here until it’s born. Then they are like “yo so we forced you to be born but we don’t actually care about you. Good luck!”
This is why it’s so common for grandparents or other relatives to take turns looking after the kids while their parents go to work (in the US). But again, this itself is a luxury because that means you have a good relationship with your parents/relatives, they’re able to look after your kids, and they’re actually willing to do so. I really understand why my mom became a stay at home mom while we were growing up. She told me the monthly cost of daycare amounted to her monthly salary so she saw no point in spending all her salary on daycare. We were lucky that dad’s salary was enough to support all four of us at the time.
same. i’m very lucky my maternal grandmother was able to look after my sister and i when we were kids and both of our parents were working because they never would have been able to afford daycare.
@@aditinc448 Because in America our parents do not care about our well being therefore there is zero respect given on either party. Adults don’t show kids respect and kids don’t respect adults. In other cultures family is number one but here in America it’s money first .💔
@@aditinc448 No worries, by “it itself is a luxury,” I mean that there are many people out there all across the world (not just the US) that has had abusive parents, neglectful parents, parents who are simply not engaged or interested in their kid’s lives, and etc. You have to understand that not everyone had or has an amazing, non-toxic, loving relationship with their parent(s). If you haven’t had a good relationship with your parents, you’d know that having them look after your kids is not an option. It’s great that for you, the people you’ve come across have great relationships with their parents; that’s the ideal but unfortunately it’s not the reality for a great chunk of the population. I have a friend who grew up in a mentally and verbally abusive household, and she has cut all ties with her abusive family after graduating school.
In Norway we have a max pricing cap system for kindergartens. The price cap for a spot is set at 3050 NOK ($294 at current exchange rate) per month pluss around 200-500 NOK ($19-38) for kindergartens who serves food to the children. (Kindergarten is subsidized by the government) Note that if you live in Northern Norway, you get a lot of subsidize. like cheaper tax, cheaper School loans, free kindergarten, etc.
I am Indonesian and one time my Korean friend told me "if you have time, come to Korea, it's completely different world". Now after watching your video, I guess he's right.
We don't have to pay for daycare in Germany. Just around 60€ a month for food, including drinks and snacks. Our daycare is incredible and teaches a lot of things like geography, physics, chemistry, woodworking and lots of other skills, while being open 12 hours a day
This just makes me sad. My husband had to quit his job at be the SAHD because he would be making the same amount it costs to go to daycare per month. So either way we still lost the money, but instead he takes care of our daughter and she gets to have both her parents home with her (I’m the remote worker and the breadwinner). And I’m originally from NYC But we’re in Annapolis! A lot cheaper but still expensive AF
About $45k/year. Seoul isn't a cheap city to live in, you have to make a decent amount to be able to afford it. It's just like any large city in the west (New York, Toronto, London)
What are the taxes in Korea? What is the take home pay for someone making $45,000/year? I’d rather have low taxes and make a choice for my healthcare and daycare. I chose not to put my kids in daycare so I wonder about those citizens who pay high taxes to cover government subsidized programs but don’t utilize these programs like daycare and healthcare
@@annabelletesterman9873 I'm a teacher in Seoul and at my last job I made 2.3 million won a month and after taxes I brought home 2 million. My rent was paid for by my work. I only had to pay for my phone and electricity which (before my phone was paid off) averaged about 90k won.
@@annabelletesterman9873 The comment above said that out of their approx. $1800 salary (rent is paid for) they bring home about $1570. Those are very standard taxes. the more I learn about governments around the world the more angry I get at the united states. Yes there are pros and cons and I'm thankful its not a third world country but we're taught that this is the best country in the world, when really we're just too prideful and ignorant to take notes from others who do it better.
I agree they act like we are the only free country and it’s crazy if you want to go anywhere else because look at this bad parts of other countries but not out bad parts don’t look at that.
Yes. In order to be as good as other systems like you see you'll need to secure boarders, like Korea has. No illegal immigrants sucking the system dry, like Korea prevents. You'll also need a 45% tax rate like Korea has compared to 24% for middle class Americans. As a childless person sorry I want low tax rates, not paying for someone else's kids. I already pay ridiculous taxes for schools.
for good reason, governments have a bad reputation for going corrupt…. they have a bad reputation in robbing their citizens. and putting in danger while restricting their freedoms if you dont like america and you live here you should leave, people dont realize what they have till its gone, quit being naive
@@sasharodriguez384 they could slash the military budget in half if we stopped subsidizing other countries militaries. Same goes for Europe's healthcare. A good portion of their "universal healthcare" is subsidized by Americans. If we stopped subsidizing theirs we could have our own.
Our kids in the US are at a severe disadvantage especially if you want a "good" daycare expect to pay a arm and a leg. Fir my kids to go to daycare 3 days a week part time (12-4:30) was $640 a month. My kids were 3 and 15 months. That didn't include diapers if they ran out from what we sent, snacks if they stayed past 3 pm and if you needed early drop off at 8 am (nothing earlier). Daycare closed at 5 pm so if you were a working single parent you were outta luck. Recently I paid $530 for 2 days a week for a 5 year old after I divorced. State only covered $200 leaving my mom to help me a lot as I worked my butt off just to afford that AND rent
Korea is light years ahead of any other country. I was lucky to work with them several times and not only were they some of the nicest people I met, but their technology blew me away. I’m sure when they came to the UK they thought we were two centuries behind!
Same, tell me why I was thinking of my puppy / doggy day care while watching this 😂😂 the second that thought passed my mind I was like “that didn’t even come close to making sense why did I think that” 😂
Yea.. also prepare for being unable to find a job--for numerous reasons, xenophobia, inability to do the hours, cultural anger as you get used and abused, etc. Top companies hiring only from top universities pay 60k/yr at the top end if you're lucky...and you're working 60-70 hours a week, so it's the same $/hr as like 40k in the US. Obivously not counting nepotism hires of trust fund chaebol babies. The reason US cities cost so much is because of the abundance of 6 figure out-of-undergrad jobs that also have tons of room for income growth. Americans online, who all seem to be poetry major dropouts, forget about these people often.
Aren’t Koreans super harsh on immigration? I was under the impression they can afford all this by not letting in immigrants at a large scale like the usa does
I know people have to do what they had to do to work but it just crushes my heart little two three year old children gone for eight to nine hours at a building with strangers
Damn!!! Good thing I reside in Canada (QC) we have a 4 tier daycare system here to cater to every type of clientele. the cheapest for average to rich people is an 8$(CAN)/day. So to go with your situation that would be 320$/month (full time) so 247,50$USD/month. Canada is like USA, states are like provinces. Every one works on the same system but some offer less (therefore less taxes) and others offer huge amount of services (but also huge amount of taxes). The richer you are the more you pay. Where I reside the taxes are the highest in the country but you (every resident) get what you pay for.
When my kids were little, it was actually cheeper to stay home with the kids. Best decision I made been at stay at home mom since. I do know not every family can do one income but we are blessed. I Just dont how anyone can afford child care even when both are working. Unless they make a lot of money. My husband makes decent money but 300 a week sheesh!! That's over $1000 a month and for only one kid. My son is now in 8th grade we do send him to a private Classical education school and that's $500 a month. Now in some states it's based off income which is better.
You should probably figure out the average wage for someone with your skill set first. Unless you've got some way to make all your money in USD while you're living in Seoul
We all do better when we ALL do better. I don’t have kids and probably never will but I would gladly pay more taxes for quality universal childcare on a federal level. 1. the kids deserve it. They didn’t ask to be born, the least we can do is give them a good start. We all get justifiably upset when we see kids who are failed by the system. If we improve the system, we can alleviate that suffering. 2. Kids who don’t have their basic needs met are more likely to become dysfunctional adults and dysfunctional adults are more likely to create suffering for others and/or commit crime. Neglecting our kids is bad for society in general. 3. Educated, well cared for kids are more likely to innovate new ways to improve ALL our lives. They’re more likely to cure diseases, create great art, build better businesses and build better government.

Takes a village they say, no thanks. We’ve seen what the village raised. As a family goes, there goes a nation. Start by supporting, educating and encouraging TWO parent households.
A lot of my friends that have kids have their hosuehold set up to where only one parent is working because it is genuinly cheaper to stay at home than to pay for childcare, especially with more than one child. If you don't have a degree or a trade, your only promise for good pay is to know someone or "work your way up" with years of hard work and dedication. Don't have time for that when your paycheck is hardly enough to pay for the childcare and the child is either here already or only 8 months away. I live in the Midwest of U.S.

Daycare is not free in Germany, its between 100€ and 280€ the month, it depends on the time the toddler spends their. But you can get help from the city or the goverment.
As a junior doctor in the UK, I was forced to take a crippling career brake simply because I had one of 2 options: work on calls (15 days/month) and literally never see my family or to work with no on calls in which case salary was less than childcare + gas to get to work. Society is f-ing broken.
As an older sibling ( there’s 14 yrs between me and my brother) I wish daycare was more affordable as my parents just made me be free childcare for my brother whilst doing important school exams etc and honestly my mental health has really suffered…
14… hours? I’m the oldest of four siblings, with 16 years between me and the youngest, so I’ve done lots of babysitting! If it’s affecting your mental health and school work though then you need to talk to your parents about your responsibilities. It’s good that you can help out, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of your own education and health.
@@StudioHannah 14 years lmao my bad. Also I’ve tried but I get guilt tripped for not pulling my share of responsibilities even though he’s not my child. I’m lucky though that I’ll begin uni next year so I’ll get some freedom then!

As Korean living in Canada, The childcare system in Korean seems very affordable and reliable, but not really. In Canada, only 8 kids (aged from 3 to 5 yrs) are allocated for One teacher, however, in Korea more than 20kids for one teacher. Child ratio sucks in Korea. By-laws for childcare are too vague, arguable. So many things accidents happens at the daycares in Korea. In this video, only good things indroduced. I know wht’s reality there.
The reason SK subsidizes daycare so much is to incentivize couples to have more children, since korea is becoming demographically older with fewer kids per couple.
and the excuse why all these other countries are also far better and sometimes literally free while offering amazing care? Maybe your right about Korea, but that doesnt change how great it is and how some countries like america are terrible yet claim that they are amazing at everything
I live in a rural area and daycare is hard to find in addition to being expensive. It makes more sense to be a frugal stay at home mom than pay someone else to watch my two toddlers.
Even in the big cities sometimes both parents working isn’t worth it because one of their monthly salary will go to paying daycare. Turns to “what’s the point?”
I did a quick search on the net. There are specific areas of expertise that pay enough to live on. I've lived overseas, although not in Korea. Everywhere I've lived, there are Koreans who are working there and sending money home. Do a little checking, but keep an open mind. 😉
I’ve been seeing a lot of your videos, and I think it’s so beneficial for a society to have institutions that prioritize families. However, these comparisons are just foreign exchange. What do the comparisons look like on a purchasing power and median salary adjustment?

Unbelievable! The questions are 1- where do you want to live , would you have a good neighborhood decent similar square meters , 2- would you have the same working position and comparable salary , transportation accessibly and time . 3-,is there a English school with Korean language immersion program? 4- how is the political climate in South Korea?
Thats amazing!! And I bet the daycare teachers get paid a hell of a lot more too! I just left the childcare industry at a daycare after years of being WAY OVERWORKED/ OVERWHELMED AND EXTREMELY UNDERPAID. I have my Child Development Associate Certification and I was still getting paid MINIMUM WAGE! I got paid more when I was working at a DOG daycare. Don't get me wrong that was hard too, but something here in US needs to chnge. Between shit pay, high daycare prices and no health insurance. There's major issues. Good for your government for investing in th future 👏 👍
They actually don’t think about it..your school cost very little to attend do you think they are going to pay you extremely high?? No plus I lived there for years..many people see just this one thing and wow Omgggg I want to leave American and move there so great..but do you not understand the lifestyle they have there is nothing like ours so comparing school cost to ours then saying wow we sick they have it nice, but not fully looking at the economy and making a decision from a tik too video well..
Even in Brazil we have state funded day cares. The ones in smaller cities still the best tho, because you don't have to travel far to bring your kid to the daycare like in some major cities and you don't struggle to find a spot for the kid. But the private ones still affordable, lots of middle class parents prefer it and the companies pay part of the cost (it's legally required). I was in a public daycare since I was 2yo and I remember having a lot of fun, I lived in the same street, so me and my sister would walk there with our neighbors since we're very little. I remember they teaching us how to brush our teeth after every meal and fun songs and games. My mom could go back to work because of it. Having affordable or free children care is a sure way to free women to go back to work after having kids without them having to work solely to pay for daycare.
That's good, I'm glad someone does their job with care. It's always hard finding the right daycare providers and having trust. There are places that are just cruel. It is a hard job. I say daycare workers need good pay. They're taking care of children and teaching them.
My sister in law was just complaining about daycare costs in the Detroit area. I had both my kids in Seoul and didn't have the heart to tell her how much my daycare costs us.
Yeah daycare is expensive in detroit 😭🤚- a Detroiter
I'm about 45 minutes North and it's crazy expensive up here too. I honestly can't afford it. We have to work opposite shifts. It sucks bc we hardly ever get time together as a whole family
I just searched and why is it around $390/week??? That’s so much… WTH America… is Detroit even that nice of a city? why is it so expensive?
That's why many families around the area would prefer to have an Au Pair 🙋♀️
The children in Korea look like they’re actually learning something and having fun.
Until they grow up and get ✨️Asian student pressure✨️

They are geared to that as a candy and a whip kind of thing. When they've gotten a little older they will be force to aim top universities, if not by the parents, it will be the society and the school.

Our system is broke 😔
And throw in a bachelor's degree and you still don't make enough to support yourself.
My son was in Korean day care when I was stationed in Korea. As a foreigner, I had to pay the full amount but it was still an amazing deal. He also had only 8 toddlers in his class with 2 teachers and the care was far superior to anything we found in America short of a private nanny.

Wish the government actually cared about the people who lived here🥲
From a former early preschool teacher, I agree fucking completely
It’s not that the US government doesn’t understand childcare. US government is made of parents. It just doesn’t give a sh*t. It’s a choice, not lack of knowledge.

The Gospel of Salvation/Warnings
JESUS CHRIST is the only Lord and Savior this whole creation needs. Please turn to Jesus Christ and get saved now while his grace is still merciful for he is coming soon!
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”.
Isaiah 45:18
“For this is what the Lord says-
he who created the heavens, he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited he says:
“I am the Lord,
and there is no other”.
Deuteronomy 32:39
“See now that I myself am he!
There is no god besides me.
I put to death and I bring to life,
I have wounded and I will heal,
and no one can deliver out of my hand”.
Philippians 2:8-11
“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
John 1:1-5
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”.
John 1:14
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth”.
How to get SALVATION (be saved):
1. Admit that you are a sinner.
Romans 3:32
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death”.
2. Believe that Jesus paid for your sin at the cross.
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.
Romans 6:23
“but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus”.
Ephesians 2:8-9
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”
3. Confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and commit your life to him.
Romans 10:9
“That if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.
4. Repent (What does repent mean and do? To repent is a change of mind, that leads to a change of heart, that leads to a change in actions. This “change” involves both a turning from sin and a turning to God.)
Mark1:15
“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
Luke 13:3
“But unless you repent, you too will all perish”.
Acts 3:19
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”.
2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.
This symbolizes the death of our flesh with Christ and our new life through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.)
Acts 2:38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Galatians 2:20
“ I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 3:26-27
“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
1 Peter 3:21
“And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
WARNINGS!!!
Jeremiah 25:6
“and do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands, and I will do you no harm”.
Deuteronomy 8:19
“It shall come about if you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish”.
1 Corinthians 10:20
“No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God.

My sons were always so hyper after picking them up from daycare and even though I was very particular where I sent my sons, made sure they were learning, eating and were able to have playtime, as well as, nap time, their daycare was so expensive and certainly wasn't as great as daycare in South Korea and I'm sure there's daycares in SK that aren't as great as others yet the fact the government helps parents that are working, they pay most of the daycare costs and you're able to send your child or children to a very good daycare!!❤️

korea is not a country
When just looking at one comparison it does seem like Korea is a lot more affordable. But I lived there as a full time Sr. Designer and project coordinator and made $1,300 a month. My partner was a Sr software engineer and made $38,000 a year. (Both considered mid to high paying jobs).
You need to take into account overall salary and other costs of living factors. Their current minimum wage is just under $7 as well. Housing costs per sq m is way higher. In Seoul, a 100sq ft studio apartment ranges from $400 to upwards of $1400 a month depending on amenities, location, deposit, etc.
Yes,but the USA everything is high including food,Healthcare, rent on top of low paying wages even for people with degrees.
@@sandylovelast1687 wages are dependent on state. In CA it’s like 15-16 dollars but some jobs do 18 dollars.

Long Post, TL;DR at the end!
Daycare is so stupidly expensive. My mom quite her job when I was born because she wasn't even making enough to pay for daycare and gas(my dad still worked though). Now I'm a teenager and my brother is old enough where neither of us need babysitters or daycare. But I'm starting to babysit, and I'm making more then minimum wage and more then what most places are offering(even full time, adult jobs are like $12/hour), and it's STILL cheaper then sending their kids to daycare for 3/4+ hours.
Note: The family I mainly babysit for came up with how much they would pay me. It's two or three kids between the ages of 5 to 9. I personally think I'm being payed the perfect amount. I don't need to pay for bills or anything like that, but being able to have enough to save up for a car, college, school stuff, and still be able to have extra left over for hanging out with friends is amazing. I'm able to become more responsible with money, and only buy things I really need or want(my parents still pay for food btw. Lol).
Plus, babysitting is THE BEST form of birth control!🤣🤣
TL;DR: I'm a teen making more then minimum wage, and it's still cheaper for the family to hire me then send the kids to daycare all day.
Hi i was wondering if you could give me any tips as I'm also a teen and am interested in starting babysitting. Mostly i would appreciate knowing how to start.

I’m so impressed with what activities are included in South Korea for daycare!
I believe the South Korean government also gives stipends during pregnancies. Really treat moms to be very well.
Because they want to actually encourage people to have children
Korea is light years ahead of any other country. I was lucky to work with them several times and not only were they some of the nicest people I met, but their technology blew me away. I’m sure when they came to the UK they thought we were two centuries behind!

Yea.. also prepare for being unable to find a job--for numerous reasons, xenophobia, inability to do the hours, cultural anger as you get used and abused, etc.
If I didn’t qualify for state funded childcare I’d be paying 3600 a month for both my kids to go full time.
More than my teacher's salary with a Masters and National Board Certification.
I wish my country would have this, imagine the responsibility they have throughout life.
“For this is what the Lord says-
he who created the heavens, he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited he says:
“I am the Lord,
and there is no other”.
Deuteronomy 32:39
“See now that I myself am he!
There is no god besides me.
I put to death and I bring to life,
I have wounded and I will heal,
and no one can deliver out of my hand”.
Philippians 2:8-11
“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
WARNINGS!!!

This is it right here the kind of mindset we should all have.

Thanks, I was looking for this info.

The questions are 1- where do you want to live , would you have a good neighborhood decent similar square meters , 2- would you have the same working position and comparable salary , transportation accessibly and time . 3-,is there a English school with Korean language immersion program? 4- how is the political climate in South Korea?
When I was a single mom and my daughter was constantly in daycare I had to pay more than my rent was at the time!
That how much i pay for my college tuitions in india no meals involved
In government college it is roughly around 28 USD per year for my tution fees in medical college
Indians also get paid way less than South Koreans and Americans. Of course cost of living is going to be way lower.
@@gujwdhufjijjpo9740 same goes to South Koreans they make less than 1/2 of what Americans make
Thats amazing!!
Times are getting super tough here.
@@anthonyreinke9931 isn't the average household income half of the average US income?
@@thelorddarthvader7264 It’s 3257.33 a month.
@@anitalauer2715 wow I am massively off in my thinking then
Even in Brazil we have state funded day cares.
Daycare worker here! It’s a hard job lol, those kids are well taken care of tho!! We love our babies
That's good, I'm glad someone does their job with care. It's always hard finding the right daycare providers and having trust. There are places that are just cruel. It is a hard job. I say daycare workers need good pay. They're taking care of children and teaching them.
