Congratulations Karen on 3000 subscribers. You’re podcasting is excellent. I’m old school with crochet and personally hardly ever crochet since learning to knit 20 years ago but I use/used BOYE crochet hooks. Simple medal hooks. I have tried the wooden hooks but they feel foreign. BOYE are very affordable. Happy knitting/Crocheting 🧶

You probably have already figured out what size/brand of crochet hook to use, but it not, I'd recommend either Tulip or Clover brand (nice shaped handles) and either size D, E or F (3.25, 3.5 or 3.75mm respectfully). Size depends on how dense you want the fabric to be. Thanks Karen. Congrats on 3K subscribers.

Congratulations Karen, on 3k subscribers! Continued success with your wonderful podcast! Lovely, upbeat podcast as usual!
I went down the granny squares rabbit hole during the lockdown. I crocheted tons of small squares for the Battenberg Blanket. It never got finish because I could not find contrasting 2-ply color yarn for the contrasting colors! 🤦🏻‍♀️
There’s Susan Bates Knit-Check gauge finder that provides knitting and crochet hook sizes. You can stick the hook you crocheted with to locate the size. Additionally there’s a lot of awesome ergonomically hooks by Tulip and soft to hold ones by Clover. I don’t own these, but my cousin who only crochets bought Tulip hooks.
Good luck with your granny squares blanket! Happy knitting and crocheting! ❤❤

I'm a knitter and crocheter. There are so many projects you can make from your granny squares. The labels on your yarn will have the size of crochet hook to use with your yarn, but a size B through E would work well. Crochet hooks can be purchased at Walmart, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby or online. Love the dot sweater you are knitting. Congratulations on your 3K subscribers.

Good luck with your blanket. I recently started a blanket out of scraps and man it's tedious. I probably should be doing something that is more enthralling as you are doing. Of course it doesn't help that I have four other enthralling projects! Koushi and Rock It Tee are close to finished. Just started Why Knot by Rachel Illsley - love the stitches she comes up with. Plugging away on Baby Yoga Pants...gdaughter due in October. I am enjoying your Shorts!

I turn all my scrap yarn into huge 300+ gr magic knot balls on my winder then hold the yarn double (one strand from each cake) and use a half double crochet stitch for a scrappy blanket. Working on #3 blanket now for a gift. Love the granny squares but would hate the putting it together aspect😂. BTW - good luck with the dog training. I crochet and knit. The right size hook is an individual thing, just like with knitting needles. I tend to be a loose crocheter and knitter so I’m always trying a smaller hook/needle. My favorite hooks are Clover Amour. They have a soft ergonomic handle that makes my life easier. The sets are a little pricey. I bought mine as needed. If it helps, I crochet fingering weight with an F 3.75 hook (pink handle in the amour set.) Good luck with your blanket-your squares are great! Congratulations on 3,000 subscribers. Congratulations on reaching 3000 ... and YAY for crochet! 🥳 Love the hat and sweater projects - the colors and patterns are so pretty! I'm a crocheter so I loved to see your granny squares too. They are so quick and easy but I'm not a fan of sewing them all together either. I made a temperature blanket a few years ago with a square per day ... 365 squares to sew together was quite a test of my patience but I finished it eventually 😉. Thanks for the chance at this giveaway too. Take care, Kris K from Connecticut 🧶🌻🙂

Wow! Quite the progress on the dot sweater. Your daughter should love it! So fun!

  • @lizkaji2750

In regard to your crochet hook conundrum, I would think you would want to continue with the same size hook so the squares will all be the same size. I'm in SoCal and don't know much about Chicago but were it I, I'd take the tool to Michael's and try to match it up with a hook to determine the size. Our Michael's has loose aluminum hooks for purchase so you should be able to match it up. From there you can decide what style of hook you really want to use that is comfortable for you to use - aluminum, wood, plastic handle, etc. Your LYS may also be able to help. Some are more helpful to crocheters than others.

You can put your crochet hook that you're using in a gauge sizing thing for knitting needles and that will tell you what hook size it is, but you'll have to look up the millimeter size for that. And I've put superwash socks in the dryer and they always stretch back out, especially if you soak them, then they'll be easier to tug them out.
