- Doug Bania, an expert hired by Johnny Depp's legal team in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, pushed back against Heard's attorney as he questioned him during cross-examination. Bania disagreed with the attorneys assessment of his analysis on statements from Depp's attorney Adam Waldman and believes his testimony about the data is accurate.

I literally heard about her when the news came out that apparently Depp abused her. I'd watched Aquaman but I didn't think the woman was important, and deffo didn't pay attention to the actress.

Amazing witness. Calm, straight forward, wasn't intimidated, focused on data and facts and expressed how the lady from yesterday didn't have any data or facts and just opinions and words.
I was blown away how good he did on the cross exam. He was pretty ill prepared in the previous one, but he definitely learned his lesson. Totally redeemed himself.

The lawyer has no idea what he’s even doing? It almost seems like he becomes agitated when he doesn’t get an answer he likes either which comes across very unprofessional. Like he became more aggressive towards the witness when he continues saying “I don’t know”, but the lawyer is attempting to get him to address matters beyond the witnesses scope of practice. The judge has probably met dozens of nutty clients and circus lawyers before. This case is bizarre and rare to us because we're not in the court house on the daily. The judge is very patient with them like a kindergarten teacher.

To be fair, media and the Me too movement had more people believing in Amber's version of events than not. You have to give the benefit of the doubt that these lawyers believed her. Now they know that Amber lied to them and they are stuck defending the indefensible. It's pretty easy to see that 98% of people are on Johnny's side now, but it wasn't the case a few years ago. Now her lawyers are going down with the ship.
my headcannon is that the lawyers know this was unwinnable when they listened to the entire clip of the audio, and knew that the opposing team would use the other snippets of the same audio clips. So they had a plan of outing all of the dregs of society while using AH's money. A strong example is Dr. Spiegel, who was more than willing to lie on the stand, and every "friend" of AHs.

In trails they will do anything they can to discredit a witness, for example by having a witness contradict themselves even if it’s on a minor irrelevant point

They won a similar trial handily when Depp sued the Sun in the UK over liable. Where the burden is much lower to proving defamation. So retrying it here should have been harder for Depp on paper, since the burden is more strict

That lawyer stutters everytime he opens his mouth. His questions are irrelevant, which I think he knows too himself cause you can see and hear hesitation coming from him. He was so uncomfortable, chaotic, pressured and problematic while doing the cross.
