Excellent! This is how I was taught in fashion design school when we learned pattern drafting and grading. Take advantage of these lessons as they provide an entire college course with the added benefit of the best expert to teach you at absolutely no cost.
Thank you Miss Diane for the tutorials. They are all very helpful. Very clear and educational. You are one of my best sewing teachers 😊 Wish you the best
I read somewhere that the typical ratio for gathers is 1 to 1,5 for women apparel and 1 to 2 for children apparel. So if your cap seam line is 38 cm and you gather from notch to notch let's say it's 30 cm, you'll extend it for it to be 45 cm in a woman garment and to 60 cm in a child one. Thank you Diane, you're so clear it's a pleasure to watch your videos. xxx Cilou
Hello The cilou6, your ratio are good, BUT it is also A LOT matter of style. more gather is rich and full. Next week I will do a leg of mutton sleeve and you will see my sample is 3X1 and it's beautiful. So don't worry too much with the ratio, rules are there to be broken. Diane
Easy and beautiful results. Ladies and gents: Learn these pattern drafting techniques and stop purchasing overpriced commercial patterns. No need to waste your money. God gave us brains, not wallets.😊
Thank you for this tutorial; you make it seem so easy and I am going to try both methods and for sure is going to come up beautiful!!! PS. If you can also give us a tutorial on how to sew a fly zipper it would be awesome!!!

Another great tutorial Diane, thank you. For a child's long sleeve with gathering just at the top, would I use this same slash method all the way down to the wrist seam allowance, and fan the separate pieces out by 2cm along the sleeve cap line, as you did above?
Thank you very much ❤️ when I finish my blocks I will open a little business workshop, I'm wondering if I have to buy industrial sawing machines, or regular ones. Can I have your advice?!
Hello Abdurrahman, For the plain machine, I have both industrial and domestic. The industrial is the one I prefer, it's stronger and a much better working area, but it only sew regular seam while my domestic is doing all kind of stitches AND buttonholes. For the overlock, the small domestic is perfect, I even use it in my boutique/atelier for many years. Diane
Please show us how to attach this sleeve. I’ve tried countless times and it always looks wonky! Once I sew and gather and set in sleeve it’s in even☹️ Do you need to use a stretch thread for gathers ?
