Great intro video! I really liked it. I worked as a learning designer in a University (basically teaching academics to teach) and we used this type of video as the promo/funnel to hook in academics. Our focus was on tutorial videos so the editing was different. The focus is on the activity - process shots, screen captures etc. I put the talking head in the welcome and sign off and to emphasise key points. B-roll tended to more intentional than incidental. I was usually dealing with an older audience who seemed less tolerant of jump and zoom cuts. The motivation of the audience was also different. To an extent they already had some skin in the game, so the editing was more "fit for purpose" rather than too slick and commercial. We still used the 10 minute rule for clips but the total lesson content might be 40 minutes. More in the LinkedIn Learning style., but with an on campus tutor.
The most valuable practice that has made my content and engagement improve is to HAVE A TRUSTED PARTNER WATCH AND CRITIQUE YOUR VIDEOS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM. As a creator so deep in editing, you can lose sight of important things that are immediately apparent to someone with an outside opinion. Thanks for the great content.
You didn't mention script. I think a well written script can be a game changer. But your video felt great. You have nailed all the points to perfection. ❤
Agree with you 100%! This particular video was focused on editing concepts/principles, but I definitely want to create a video about scriptwriting concepts in the future. Especially for educational videos, scriptwriting is *everything*
@@AprilynneAlter Oh. I just saw your video on camera confidence and you did provide the importance of scripting vs bullet points. Thanks. You've gained a subscriber 😊

I am so glad that I've found your channel. Of all tutorial videos for RUclips video editing, yours is by far the most informative and professional I've seen. Not only that, ALl of the information is relevant and delivered without the use of jargons that newbies like me, might not be familiar with. Thank you so much for taking the time to put such precious material out, for all of us, new RUclipsrs 👍
You are the first RUclipsr (and i ve watched ALOT) to show me about how to use icons and where you get them from. Thank you. So simple yet I never knew where to get them. Appreciate it.❤
I work full time, am in school, homeschool our youngest, and RUclips. Ive been on the tube for a couple years and obvi can't always post on a schedule. Plus, I'm a variety show. Can't say how much I appreciate the editing calendar advise! Thank you!

I wish there were more educational videos like that cuz I can't retain well especially as a foreigner when people talk so fast or keep cutting and changing. I think there's public for those vids.
This video is one of your best videos I have watched to date for beginners tips especially how to practice improving your videos at the 10:34 min mark. I will be practising that. I expect this video should gain momentum over time when more people binge-watch like I am. Wondering if the title/thumbnail could be A/B tested with new changes, as this video should reach 20-30K views before too long. It is that good! (the only small tip I can provide is to switch from the Sony ZV1 to ZV-E10 for a bit higher video quality at APS-C instead of 1 inch sensor, perhaps you have already in a later video, the cost is so close between these 2 cameras and worth it).
I’m so glad I came across your channel 🙏 I’m starting from scratch and hoping to incrementally improve with each video I post. Your videos are making me a lot more intentional!
This is excellent and just what I've been looking for. I want to learn to create high quality RUclips videos but I didn't know what all of these video elements were even called so that I could search for lessons on how to achieve them. Now I know what they're called (e.g. "B roll") and have a starting point. I also agree with @RohitHela. A lesson on how you write your script structure document and shot list would be helpful. You showed screenshots of these in your "killer RUclips intro" video so I at least have a starting point. Thanks again!
Your videos are so helpful! Thanks so much! I love editing! For me the most challenging part is scripting and talking to the camera. I love that you cover practical tips in your videos.
Just a suggestion. To practice editing and build camera confidence,I make TikTok videos and also create content for my friends/family.tiktok is much forgiving then youtube bcoz ur not actually looking to make money from ur content.hope this helps someone. I find editing becomes much more natural with time

Hii Aprilynne!! Thank you SOOO much for all your valuable content! You have gained a subscriber and earned my trust! Do you have any recommendations about the editing software for beginners(that is easy to use, less complicated, to make all these stuff you mentioned and free)? I would appreciate your advice:)
Hi Aprilynne - your videos provide great insight! I just restarted my channel and have 14.6 watch hours in 3 videos. I realize that I need to REDO them all because the color is terrible, there are no images, no zooming, and whatever text is in there is not every 10 or 15 seconds, that's for sure. Should I just delete the ones I have and start over? THANK YOU!
nice videos .... may I aks what mic to do you use? and I see you mentioned that you outsource video editing ... could you share any recommendation or website to source for video editors?
