Caleb, your ability to consistently produce high quality, high value content never ceases to amaze me. Great timing too. I was just thinking about getting an external monitor lol!
I love the F22 system, used some of it for my first rig build last year. I ended up building a monster rig for my current client work as I'm a one man band, and it definitely makes reconfiguring things so easy.
I went out and purchased the Ulanzi system when I discovered Caleb for the very first time, and have used these for absolutely everything. It is brilliant, and literally every piece of kit I have has this system attached enabling me to move things around easily, even on the GearTree I use all without screwing a single bolt on or off !! Thanks Caleb ! I do want that plate though so yet again you’ve cost me money Caleb but I’ll forgive you :-)
I watch your current videos and from 5 year ago. They are all so incredible and current to this day. Your contributions are very good! Greeting from Arg 🧉
Looks like everyone is downsizing! Now that I find myself traveling a lot more often, I’m currently building out my travel cine kit. So from a beefed up S1H + Ninja V + Mirage VND rig, I’ll now be packing the S5 iix + RS 3 Mini + Mavic Mini 3 Pro + Lumix f1.8 primes.
The FX30 is the GH4 of the modern era, it’s the camera that everyone universally agrees is THE camera for social media content creators and has every feature you’d want a damn good price point. Was very happy with my GH4 and so far I am very happy with my FX30
The problem with most of these ‘mini rigs’ that I see suggested on RUclips is that the suggestions seem to totally ignore sound. Do all of you record sound externally? Are you only shooting B-roll? Where’s your sound?
Love love love these videos, the learning, the quality and best of all, the channel shares all the magic that goes on to create them. They are just an absolute pleasure to watch. Thanks Caleb
Thanks for the interesting video. With regard to the Hollyland M1, I ended up returning it. First of all, the system has quite some lag even if directly connected via an HDMI cable (your follow focus system would be frustrating to use / borderline unusable in any configuration). Secondly I had quality issues with this system, whereby I ended up returning 2 of the monitors which started to flicker heavily and were clearly defective. Furthermore, the monitor lost its settings when restarted, which is also frustrating. It is a nice design and concept, which I really wanted to love, but was disappointed in. Needs a version 2 which addresses these issues. I really like the Kessler arca Swiss plates too. In Europe those are quite difficult to get, but the brand ProAim makes similar plates under part numbers BP213 (short) and BP214 (long) and do ship in Europe from Belgium. They don't make a nice alternative to the Kessler Kwik Release Receiver V2.
Great video Caleb! My two cents regarding M1 Mars, since I have it. and was hyped when buying it. 1. Huge lag (2-3 frames) comparing to what you see on camera viefinder. Both SDI and HDMI the same lag. 2. Focus peaking is pretty useless on this monitor - barely see anything. 3. battery life 3 x times shorter than Shinobi 5". 4. Loud fan (but You can turn it off) 5. Heavier than Shinobi 5". 5. It has long 30 seconds booting time (Shinobi 8 sec.) 6. No "sleep mode", you can only lock the screen but it's always on draining battery (Shinobi turn off the screen). 7. Final flaw - my unit after 1 month started to flicker occasionally. In my opinion, buy this monitor only if you will use TX/RX function all the time. As a standalone monitor it is not actually that good at all...
I had the exact same experience, and ended up returning 2 of the monitors because they started to flicker and continued to flicker. While I wanted to love this system, as I really like the concept, it didn't work out for me. And the lag, even over an HDMI cable is a factor to consider. If used as a client monitor or monitoring while filming yourself, it's fine, but for pulling focus I think you only end up pulling you hair out.
Loved the video!! I feel there are some audio nuances u can look into... This video in particular was a little on the quieter side & lot of s sounds giving off weird sibilance...
Caleb, I have checked your site many times, hoping to find you've creatd a guide (with LUTs) for the Sigma FP. I can't be the only oe hoping you'll take another look at that brilliant little camera.
Any chance you (or someone you know/recommend) sells the battery adapters mentioned? I’m hoping to convert my monitor’s battery to the same type as my camera and just use the NP-FZ100s going forward.
I really liked the Ulanzi system but it's rather expensive and I already have a smallrig big cage for xt4 + top handle with record button. I found a very cheap new smallrig small cage so I went for it. But the Ulanzi one still interests me since you did your video on the F22 system.
Always delivering good content, thank you! And the Fx30 is nice, better thant Canon R7 for video, IMO. Looking forward for sony release something with a EVF like an a7000 or so
@dslrvideoshooter @Caleb do you know if the Falcam F22 Three-Position Quick Release Plate can work with the Falcam side handle? the 5 position quick release is no longer available on amazon or Bnh.
Question for any magnetic ring adapter. Putting 1 ring on the lens and another on the filter... would that introduce vignetting? I guess it depends on how wide the lens is and how far the adapter puts the ring. It's for the Panasonic 12-35 MFT lens.
Super cool set up. Im quite a beginner with all of this camera stuff and I was wondering why would I need a monitor? Is it just for easier viewing or are there other things that monitors do that are generally helpful besides the LUT stuff you mentioned in the video.
I wonder if you have any suggestions for a good tripod? It has to go under 30 in because I'm a mechanic filming cars that are only jacked up high enough to get the wheels off. The tripod has to hold a black magic pocket 4K.
Are you willing to share anything about how you accomplish the sort of "morphing" transitions between different camera configurations? I've noticed them in several of your videos and they're a really nice touch. I understand if you feel they're a "signature" that you'd rather keep secret. I feel like I've seen similar things from AI models where faces morph appearances seamlessly, but I'm guessing it's something simpler. I'm hoping it's something that might be possible to approximate as a live scene transition in OBS to "morph" between math steps while I'm tutoring.
@@dslrvideoshooter Thanks so much! I should have thought to search your oeuvre before asking. So I was half right: it's just a built-in transition, not AI magicks. good job Kondor Blue, much appreciated for having taking my recommendation (and probably others') about providing angled cables (via Gerald Undone's video a few months back). when in spring can we expect them to be available?
No, that does not exist for most cameras. Port Keys and SmallHD make certain types of monitors which allow control over certain types of cameras. I guess there is no uniform control system for cameras, so it would be really hard to make monitors which are compatible with multiple camera brands, and I am not sure whether e.g. HDMI would allow for such a data exchange or whether it requires a separate connection. Would be very nice to have indeed!
@@SalsaBailaProductions I am not sure what brand you shoot, but for some quite nice phone apps are available which do allow you to control your camera over Bluetooth and to monitor the screen. If you shoot Sony, the best app is "Monitor+". Chris Brockurst made a nice video about it here on RUclips called "Sony Camera? you NEED to try this app (remote control + monitoring tools)" if you're interested. I hope that in the future we'll get our wish, full camera control with every monitor as I quite like the idea too.
Perhaps look into the Silence Corner Atoll S Rotating Camera Collar, or for Sony E-mount the SmallRig Rotatable Horizontal-to-Vertical Mount Plate Kit. These mount around the lens barrel and do not require a camera cage. Chris Brockhurst made a video on the Atoll S on the 20th of February 2023 here on RUclips.
