Which is about to get even more expensive. They're absolutely insane, and frankly I don't think it's even that great. Dig is easily better, though a bit more difficult to set up.
Just to be clear, The “gee” is pronounced similar to “Jee” as in “genius” or “genie” (but a bit shorter) and not “gee” as in “geese” or “Giza”. The hiragana is "だいじしょう
It is odd though especially as this frontend has been around for a while now. From what I’ve witnessed, many supporters of all the other frontends have all been silent of Daijisho, keeping it out of the limelight. In my opinion, this launcher is already better than all of the others and it’s free.
I'm excited to see this available, but I'm probably going to wait a few weeks before I bother with it. I like the idea of what it does and how well it does it, but with the constant discovery of new banking trojans being uploaded with in apps on the play store, I'm a bit overly cautious with anything I download any more. Not saying it has one, just saying I always wait now until apps have been around for a bit.
This one has been around for quite a while actually (2-3 months), I think ETA was just waiting for it to become a bit more developed before making a video on it
Any app can be updated later on to do unfavorable things. You're best to just have a secondary Google account that's not tied to your other services just for stuff like this.

how can you not tell it's japanese? it would be pronounced, roughly: die-jee-sho (the line over top the "o" usually spelled out as "ou" which would mean to just barely draw out the o sound a little longer)
That’s why I have used Arc Browser but I had to pay $8 for it. I’m excited to try this free one and compare it. I have been waiting for this frontend for a while now not knowing how it would turn out. I like the look of it in this video. It’s nothing to compare to Linux based frontends but that’s the best thing I can run on a tablet at this point.
Launchbox is still the best one for me but coming from you, it's very humble for you to review other alternative frontends, so this is much appreciated!
The pronunciation would be "Die-Gee-Show" Without the Japanese kanji characters, it's hard to tell the meaning. Not sure if it's supposed to be 大事象 (Big event? Not a real word) or 大辞書 (Big dictionary, although that would be daijisho and not daijishō). The frontend looks pretty damn sweet. If I wasn't running Launch box, I'd probably use this one.
A couple of issues I had with this frontend was for dreamcast it wouldn't show all of the games that where in that rom. If i were to launch redream directly instead of through daijisho, I could see all the games listed. Furthermore I did notice if i launched through dijisho that it would launch redream into it's library , but also would load the roms strangely. There was always this infinite scrolling issue where i it would appear to keep reloading the list of roms but would only stop once i pressed down on the d pad. The other issue I noticed was using daijisho with retroarch, particular one of the n64 cores, it would show the game in a shrunken view where there was a lot (an inch) of black boxing around the viewing area and the game showing in what remains in the center. Again, launching retroarch directly doesn't have this issue. Im certain there are other problems that I didn't notice but those two alone were enough to put me off for it which is unfortunate because i love the way the frontend looks and operates otherwise.
Daijisho looks Japanese to me. だいじしょ. Phonetically it translates perfectly. If i was reading it in Japanese I would say "da ee jee show". The accent mark over the "o" throws me off a bit though. I've never seen Japanese written in Roman characters ever use an accent mark so I could be totally off
I use a Fire Tablet HD10 11th generation, and after I add the path and sync it, whn trying to play a game, it says that tue file is not found. I gave the app storage permissions, same thing. Uninstalled and reinstalled, same thing. If you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Great video. I've been trying this one out for a few weeks and it's very promising. Not user friendly enough yet for me to use over Dig or Retroid Launcher but seems like the developer is improving it constantly. Needs easier navigation to favorites and recent games to replace my frontend but always good to have options.
I bought a Retroid Pocket 2 when it came out... I still need to set it up and actually use it. I moved just after buying it, didn't have access to a pc for a bit, and just have not touched it. I really need to figure it out (first emulation machine I owned).
good to see you making a video about this! I've been running this on my retroid 2+ and it has really made the device feel great! impressive working on such a low res screen at different aspect ratios even in its early stages.
Thanks for the video and explanations of some of the settings. So far, so good and it's free, which is always a bonus. Even if it becomes chargeable down the line, so far, it definitely looks worth paying for. I like the fact it can be used as the home screen on Android. Works great on the GPD XP (yes I was one of the few buyers of this overpriced device) even with the odd screen resolution on the device.
Hey man, this was super informative for me to set up with the RP3. Can I ask what the default wallpaper is that is being used for Daijisho? ie 0:55 and onwards?
I like it much more than Dig or Reset. I even like it more than Arc Browser as far as looks go. But what Arc Browser does better than all the above I mentioned is that it detects Japanese versions of consoles and their roms. I have issues with artwork for arcade games. They are not showing. Still has a way to go but it’s going to be great if it fixes those issues.
12 year old me would not expect how far weve come in technology and emulation and he would not beileive how good of a pc he had and he just needed to change the ram
What I don't like about these frontends (this, RetroArch, EmulationStation, Launchbox, EmuDeck, etc) is the insistence that your games library must be sorted by platform/system. It's the core reason why I ended up on SteamOS and am manually adding command line launch peramiters for my games. My games are sorted by (very high level) genre. My NES platformers sit just fun in the library next to my Amiga, MegaDrive, Spectrum and Modern platformers.
ETA didn’t go into detail, but there are other tabs where you can set up widgets and collections to help with browsing your games in other ways. Give it a try.
Any reason why my psx games will not sync once I select its path? Only one game synced, when I select my epsxe emulator it runs every game fine..please help
I'd like to have a gridview of 3D boxes of the games, with their covers and, maybe, the game supports with their label. And a session for favorite games under every specific system, and another one for favorite games overall, including all systems. Possible?
This has support for Retroarch, just pick it and the respective core as a default emulator for each system. Retroarch works better as a "backend" than a frontend imo.

Every time I try to play something, it gives a message saying: Kill Package Processes - To Play this item you have to kill the existing processes. Etc... then I have options to kill or not. Either way the phone goes black and the emulators crash.
I have a question once I do all this and I wanted to play with a controller which controller would be best to use and how to install the controller. If you can please show us in the settings how to link a game controller please.
I think its a cool idea and all but I honestly have no problem just launching my individual emulators per console with my android devices. I just feel like this front-end will only use more RAM in the background. Maybe correct me if I'm wrong, looks great, might try it. Just have too many questions as to if it's really worth bothering with. Does it work seamlessly switching from one console genre to the next? Do I have to exit the front-end in between? Does it impact performance on my stand-alone emulators, even by the slightest?
I sort of agree. At least for my phone, I have no problem tapping the emulator I want to start. Maybe for a dedicated emu handheld that didn't uave a touchscreen it would be better.
We could definitely do with an alternative to the ridiculously over priced Launchbox.

I really like the look of the frontend... but for some reason doesn't work for me. Every time I try to play something, it gives a message saying: Kill Package Processes - To Play this item you have to kill the existing processes. Etc... then I have options to kill or not. Either way the phone goes black and the emulators crash.
It's pronounced kinda like die-gee-show
I have a question once I do all this and I wanted to play with a controller which controller would be best to use and how to install the controller. If you can please show us in the settings how to link a game controller please.
Does anyone have a suggestion for accessing the App tray when Daijishō is set to the home button?
Only bad thing is it doesn't detect better versions of the same emulator it doesn't detect citra enhanced
My “Highlights” tab has gone missing, any ideas how to get it back guys??
@@danh2716 an excellent point! That's where this really applies.
Die-G-Show is a simple way to pronounce the name :)
