Today we are taking a look at the cut Elder Council questline... Streaming On Twitch: / thecantina (every Wednesday and Saturday 3pm est) TWITTER: / thecantinach
I genuinely didn't even think about the fact that ALL of the factions we could become leader of just... turned to garbage. That's a hilarious thought. We became the leader of so many factions that we couldn't juggle them all, and they all just went downhill.
Jokes aside I personally think they pulled the "we're a struggling dying faction" way too much in Skyrim as an excuse for lack of content in the factions
@@RedemptionDenied666 It was more so the Player Character could come in and be the saviour of all the different factions. That way naming the most recent member to join the guild: the new leader, only seems half insane.
I mean... "Hey, that guy who joined our magical college last week? Yes, the one who didn't cast a single spell yet. Let's make him archmage." Turns out making someone who haven't spent more than 2 weeks in your group and have no intention of staying around much, doesn't make a great leader for the group. *surprised pikachu face*
We as players didn't really have any say in that, though. If the game simply continued from Oblivion into Skyrim without any character switching, you'd still be helping all these factions. You would have been there for most if not all of them. I don't really consider our Elder Scrolls characters to be people in of themselves. I feel like they are just vessels to be filled with a player's input. Once you leave, your character fades out of existence, in the game's universe itself.
I honestly do wish this was a separate quest line, though (just like how the Great Houses were used in Morrowind; being brief for the main quest, but also having their own quest lines).
There's so much I used to do in my life for so many hours like playing Oblivion... Now the thought of playing Oblivion gives me a deep pit in my heart because I feel alone playing it. But I love everything about it. So many things I used to love to do but don't do anymore...
I just started another playthrough :p trying to be a good mage instead of a theif. There is just something that keeps bringing be back too. I think the loneliness come partially comes from the lack of thats apparent now. Back then this was huge, now not so much. But still awesome.
Would have been cool to add as a late game quest _after_ you finish the main storyline. That, or a separate storyline quest that maybe had a couple intertwining moments with the main. Would have been cool if it had even offered unique dialogue choices or consequences (good or bad) to the main or other quests.
Happy that you felt able to make another Oblivion video bud. They brought me to your channel, but your personality is what made me stick around... and sub to your Twitch!
Getting a notification from this channel with the old profile pic and about a new The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion video felt so familiar and nostalgic 😌, thank you Mason, can't wait to see more content on any of your channels, I really enjoyed all the different types of content you uploaded so far 😊.
I really liked the video! recently i went back to playing oblivion and i created a character that just kinda ignores all questlines (that ive already 100%) and just starts to roam around, sleeps in caves, hunts for survival, and loot outposts. Its magical because its almost a new game for me! made me remember what i loved about the game. i have watched hours of analyss of oblivion and i started to think the game was kinda bad, but now that feeling is gone! What im saying about oblivion can be apllyed to anything! i started watching you when u had like 10K subs, and i kept on watching not because i lked oblivion, but because i liked the format of your videos and your humour on them! I guess that maybe if you could apply that format to other games, it would be very great! (like: best quests, best moments, comparissons)
i mean, some of your most watched videos arent from TES, but share a simillar format to the ones from the series! i guess thats a way to not do only oblivion forever and try to keep things fresh! as a viewer, i would love to see some comparisons between generations of RPGS (SNES x playstation/xbox) and stuff like that!
I honestly just love Oblivion so much! In my perfect world, I imagine Bethesda constantly updating Oblivion so I can just enjoy it more! However, it's still good the way it is and the amount of content it had for a 2006 game is mindboggling when you look at games today.
I would like to see race specific storylines kinda like how swtor did different class storys. Maybe the Imperial could become a ruler while an Argonian expands the hists influence or something.
I thought we weren't going to get anymore Elder Scrolls content. And then I get a notification of this video. Not saying I'm complaining, just slightly confused...
Not exactly the same as this cut-early quest line, but with kvatch rebuilt, you have the option of becoming count/countess at the end of it all, since it's the player who puts in the hard yards getting kvatch back together. So in a way, with the you become said duke/duchess of colovia, if you'd want to look at it like that. Still, an interesting thing to know that there could've been something like this on oblivion, who knows how it would've been like.
I'm still shocked we didn't at least get made the new count of Kvatch after the Oblivion Crisis was over. The city could have been rebuilt and the survivors could have returned with some new townsfolk to populate it. Instead it's left as a permanent ruined hellscape, with the survivors just camped out at the side of the road at the mercy of the elements and mountain lions that like to roam the region.
I always felt like I was the only thing that actually changed in oblivion. My deeds... my accomplishments... they only matter to me. Like that kid in skyrims main city who calls you a bootlicker after you've slain dragon after dragon
Oh shit, I haven't seen a video of yours in forever! Man, I would have LOVED to be a Duke when I first played this game as a kid... Maybe someday someone will mod it in. I'd do it myself if I had any knowledge of coding and modeling (which I do not).
ah, i wish we could have seen this questline at least we have the great kvatch rebuilt mod nowadays :) fills the hole of being the duke of colovia somewhat at least
What always pissed me off is you can be the leader of the mages guild, the fighters guild, a member of the blades, the hero of Ceridian and so much more making you the single most influential individual in the country but they still won't let you in the upper floors of the palace lol
I feel like this is something that could have been put on the bench until release and then refined into a DLC campaign. I mean, it wouldn't be anything all that big, probably even smaller than the Knights DLC questline, but it's still better than horse armor.
He destroyed the elder scrolls series, he did make it painfully mainstream and just boring overall. I speak for hardcore rpg lovers. Neither sykrim or fallout are worth playing if you are used to games like Baldurs gate 2, divinity original sin 2 or planescape tornment.
I think it would have been amazing it be similar to the war in the north/assassination plot in the Witcher 3 it not part of finding ciri and the wild hunt but it enhanced the world and game, the politics of the deadra invasion is part of the oblivion crisis would have been great
Yep. That sounds like Todd... "Oh, this would have added depth, complexity, and realism. So it would have been like Morrowind. Delete it. We can't have anything other than shallow action RPG content."
Nah I really like not being the super duper special chosen one like in Skyrim, aiding Boromir in becoming the chosen one is way cooler. Plus I played this with my girlfriend and her dad back in the day, we each made our own characters and watched each other play. Her dad played a warrior, she was a mage and I needed to pick something else so I came up with Higgins, an old balding scoundrel assassin/thief and he's been my go-to dude ever since. Higgins being dragonborn in Skyrim felt so wrong, of course I could just skip the main quest but I didn't know that would happen on my first playthrough.
What do you think of Bethesda in Fallout 4 making all the factions part of the main quest instead of separate questlines like they do in the Elder Scrolls
Has anyone developed a mod to try and add this quest line in? I know there are cool mods that involve full quest lines, and even have a quest line to rebuild Kvatch!
I played Oblivion so many times. I beat the Mage's and Fighter's guild question lines at least two or three times. (I was too nice to be an assassin). I never beat the main quest line.
I genuinely didn't even think about the fact that ALL of the factions we could become leader of just... turned to garbage. That's a hilarious thought. We became the leader of so many factions that we couldn't juggle them all, and they all just went downhill.
All the while we spend centuries on vacation at Pelagius' shattered mind.

An Oblivion video by the one and only Cantina!! Happy to see you feel like making content about Oblivion again; amazing video as always! ♡

4:18 considering the amount of Skooma in the veins of Oblivion players “yeah”
Oblivion was such an ambitious game
TES Construction Set and Oblivion were my first introduction to programming. Seeing that brought back so many memories!
"You're not somebody that important." Literally play as the guy that mantled Sheogorath.

Love the summing up of Skyrim as the oblivion heroes fault lol. So funny
Classic Cantina Elder Scrolls content. So comfy
Oh yes
I honestly just love Oblivion so much! In my perfect world, I imagine Bethesda constantly updating Oblivion so I can just enjoy it more! However, it's still good the way it is and the amount of content it had for a 2006 game is mindboggling when you look at games today.
Always good to get some elder Scrolls history 🤘
I mean becoming the leader of a rebuilt Kvatch would be cool but that's nothing compared a becoming a God in the dlc.
I would like to see race specific storylines kinda like how swtor did different class storys. Maybe the Imperial could become a ruler while an Argonian expands the hists influence or something.
You do become a Duke... in shivering isles
Hey, at least in the Shivering Isles you become a literal god.
been a fan of your channel for like 3-4 years always feels wholesome seeing a new vid from you
It would be amazing to get those unfinished features and ideas(Like being the duke) in form of DLC or mods.
Oh man I love a Cantina video about Oblivion
Coming home from a stressful day at work to find this video made my whole day better. ^^

I think Todd Howard shouldn't be underestimated. Despite all his faults I do think he's a genius.
Never underestimate God Howard, once I didn't buy Skyrim and he came to my house.
He destroyed the elder scrolls series, he did make it painfully mainstream and just boring overall.

Yo he is back. My blue milk loving, Elder Scrolls talking, weirdo on the internet is back.
What do you think of Bethesda in Fallout 4 making all the factions part of the main quest instead of separate questlines like they do in the Elder Scrolls
I barely even realized there were factions in that game, so I guess that reveals the answer there

Love some Oblivion!
Has anyone developed a mod to try and add this quest line in? I know there are cool mods that involve full quest lines, and even have a quest line to rebuild Kvatch!
