  • I almost didn't try these because of the reception right by the entrance, but Cooper encouraged me to just go for it, and I'm glad I did! Funnily enough, I was actually able to see these elevators when they were still original, in mid-2021, but couldn't actually go in as the building was right in the middle of being renovated into the Sojourn Apartment Hotel that it is now. Previously some old OTIS elevators with analogue indicators, they have since received a 6500 mod by Schindler, featuring Black Linea 100 indicators outside but regular Linea 100 indicators inside! Kinda interesting how they've opted for the flush-mounted option rather than the surface-mount that I normally expect with dot-matrix 6500s. It's clear this is just a modernisation and not a full replacement, because the door tracks are still fully original, indicating the original cab. Perhaps the most interesting thing about these elevators is the floor numbering - you can tell they've just gone for the "start-at-the-bottom American numbering" approach, as the basement and ground floor have officially been denoted as levels 1 and 2 respectively. Thankfully, the indicators do come in clutch, but I can see how it very easily gets confusing with level 2 being the ground level and not level 1! Also, after ‘B’ & ‘G’, the indicator picks up the official numbering at ‘3’, which is definitely not the first time I've seen that happen. The chime from these elevators echoes into both cars, which can trick you into thinking your lift is stopping when it's actually the other car. Otherwise, these are some pretty cool elevators that have definitely been modernised quite tastefully! Filmed with ‪@elevatorsinnz‬.
