    I am a civil engineer. Which, for those who know what engineering is, ensures enabling one to see and understand the beautiful power of mathematics. I've been attracted to it's circus since I was a kid. And, I was never very good at math. Sometimes, I think I may be a rare one who appreciates everything about something and doesn't fully grasps it.
    Next, my philosophy of life emphasizes more on discipline than motivation. For those mathematicians who watched this video for motivation, I advise to attain discipline. Being motivated is not a bad thing, being motivated is a good thing but this is not reliable. Motivation dies. Discipline keeps you alive. And this is not just for mathematicians but for all the young and energetic people who are looking for motivation in their respective fields. BE DISCIPLINED!

      I simply don't know how to build discipline.

    • @mehranahmadyousafzai
      @mehranahmadyousafzai 2 месяца назад +2

      @@Julia-me2wm , it’s simple. But remember, its execution is not easy. However, the productivity boost and output satisfaction is ensured:
      Whenever you feel motivated, do not start working, rather make rules for yourself right at that moment. Make your own guidelines. Set your goals. And then, follow your rules. Setting your rules at the time of your peak motivation might be the best practice. At that time, you aim to achieve the highest you can aim for. When you have set rules for yourself during a period of motivation, I believe you have made full use of your motivation. After setting your rules, you start working as per your own rules. Then, if your motivation dies (which is destined to happen), you don’t care about it anymore. You are already on a path. Sticking with your rules is not an easy task. But practicing to stick to your rules makes you more disciplined. No matter what the situation. No matter how you feel. No matter if you feel like working or not. You have your rules to follow.
      If at some point you fail. Maybe there’s an unexpected circumstance and you cannot follow a certain rule. At this point, do not be so hard on yourself. The real problem is not “going out of track”; the real problem is blaming yourself so hard on going out of track that you are unable to come back on track. Trying to get back on track, and forgiving yourself, is of utmost importance. The first mistake (getting off-track) may weaken your discipline. But the second one (cursing yourself and thus being unable to get back on track) will completely K*LL your discipline.
      To put it simply, make rules when you’re motivated. Then follow them strictly and don’t worry about motivation. In fact, if you’ve made good rules, each time you follow a rule, you will have a dose of motivation enough to keep you going. At this point, you don’t need any external motivation.
      And then, there would be a new type of motivation. Or such an amount which is not covered by your previous set of rules. Now, you make a new set of rules…for more discipline.

    I was never "good" in math but somehow I love mathematics even if I don't understand it

  • @xavierkreiss8394
    @xavierkreiss8394 2 года назад +40

    I have already said that I acknowledge how important maths is. A few of my friends love the subject, and I'm glad for their sake. And we need people who can "do" maths.
    I've practised so often and so long, but without really knowing what I was doing, and of course I've failed.
    I used to be told I didn't try hard enough. But first of all, I never had any motivation: I never liked or enjoyed maths. And: to try you have to have some sort of idea of what you're doing. How do you try if you don't understand the subject?
    A few years ago, when I was already in my 60s, a friend who loves maths tried to explain a few points to me. We exchanged emails and Facebook messages, about two or three a day, for 6 weeks talking of various subjects related to maths. Eventually, after those 6weeks she emailed me saying "I want to help you but I can't, because I don't understand how your mind works". I told her the feeling was mutual. We're still very good friends.
    You, and the people commenting here, love maths, and that's fine by me. But no other subject is hated by so many people. And the problem with maths lovers is that none of them, or almost none, bothers to ask why. None of them is interested in trying to understand us. Most of you just dismiss us: but don't you see there is a problem?
    One reason why so many don't get it may be that it's an abstract science, a system of reasoning that we can't grasp.
    A few people have looked into the subject, or at least recognise that there's something wrong.
    To wave the problem aside breezily and say "everyone can do maths" will not solve the problem.

    • @ThinYellow
      @ThinYellow 2 года назад +4

      Unfortunately as Euclid noted, "there is no royal road to geometry". Mathematicians, being great problem solvers, would have solved the problem if there was a problem to be solved. A bit harshly speaking, it is not that they dismiss us, rather that there was nothing to dismiss to begin with, for it is not a problem if there were no solution to be found.

      I think it is very subjective , I truly never understood mathematics and that was because of it's abstraction , I was unable to grasp the core so I very reasonably lacked the ability to build my excellence in that field .

      @@aqualicgaming2213 I doubt it.It's kind of you to answer my comment but you don't answer my central question: maths is a subject that a great many people hate. No other subject triggers the same emotion in so many people: why?
      Also when you say "then it will be beautiful" that's because you love the subject and you think this will be a sure thing but it's a subjective judgement.
      You mention equations: they tried to teach me some algebra, but I didn't understand and certainly never saw anything interesting or beautiful about it.

      Bro it's never hard or never bcoz u don't have a big brain or somethin' ,it's just bcoz u really don't understand the basics or u r missing some parts ,for eg : if u just write an equation without knowing what it means or from where did it come from or how ,u r never going to understand what that equation is and it's beauty , it's incredibly easy and understanding once u know what it really represents and how and why is it 👍

    Mathematics is widely used in science for modeling phenomena. This enables the extraction of quantitative predictions from experimental laws
    Mathematics is essential in many fields, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, finance, computer science and social sciences. Some areas of mathematics, such as statistics and game theory, are developed in direct correlation with their applications, and are often grouped under the name of applied mathematics🤗

    Hello there, I am an artist especially musician. I was always enjoying maths at school and I was always good. I don't know if there's a relation between maths and music but I can find the common ground in the frequency, the magic word of expression of the sound waves and miracle of notes. I think that musicians could also be very good mathematicians 😊. In fact, there are known Greek musicians who studied Maths as well before they start to experiment with music.
    My favourite quote that's mine is: "we don't have only seven notes, we have infinite notes because we have infinite frequencies and sound waves. From the lowest to the highest." Love from a musician who likes also maths ❤
