So much time spent learning to fly the jets in bf3/4 and that was at least rewarding and funny, and now we have this… in any case thank you ghost for teaching the skill back in the day
I think dogfighting in this game is pretty freaking good especially in urban areas. The only thing I have to say is with jets for the most part the one who is behind always wins. Once your locked on your done.
@@ericskate94 well, that's also how reallife works. Try learning some evasive maneuvers for the dogfights and hope your enemy doesn't use the hover mode mid fight
I am super disappointed with the jets. The handling feels horrible and they're extremely underpowered. I can get more kills with any of the transport vehicles. I also see no use for them as you can help your team way more just running around and getting kills
Another thing you can do with the SU-57 is that its so fast that if you need more time to recharge flares you can activate overdrive and the missile will take pretty long to chase you, in some cases you can get enough time to save yourself with a last minute flare recharge.
You’re not supposed to be able to harm infantry. Jets were added to check a box and look cool in trailers. Dice has been gradually watering jets down ever since BF3 In BF4 there have been numerous times where I was flying wingman for someone in the attack jet and the infantry didn’t even flinch seeing a stealth jet strafing them. I remember getting spawn camped on Dawnbreaker by a group of people sitting on Echo roof spamming stingers and javelins at our vehicles. All I could do was spot. Had to actually call my little bird pilot over to get rid of them because I couldn’t do anything in the stealth. Back in BF3, a fighter jet would have squad-wiped them off the rooftop in under 2 minutes. I’ve found that people are more prone to run from me MRAP seat switching. It’s disappointing what Dice have done but not surprising; the writing’s been on the wall for a while

I wanted way harder flying like in BF3. Better skill ceiling all other BF flying controls were just for the new comers. And the flying in this game weird. Jets are heavy yet feel slow and helicopters feel floaty and can reach jet altitudes
Kinda wish Air Superiority was back in this installment, I always used that mode to practice my flying skills, before I used them in Conquest. Same with Team death match modes, I used that mode to try all the weapons out. I know those two modes are not as popular as the main modes. But I feel that it's weird that at the very least team death match is missing. Also all those other modes that used to be in the game. All though this game is fun. It kinda feels like a diet battlefield IMO.
..and vehicle support in the Portal logic is not existing now so one cannot build any air superiority mode there either. TDM is possible though (and exists).
In pretty sure the normal AA missiles aren’t supposed to come back and hit the target that has just used flares. The Radar missiles (the other AA missile) is meant to do that, or something similar.
@@fallenrevil no, those are active radars. Passive you can shoot them without a lock, then you can wait a second, then lock into the plane, and theyll start tracking the plane from closer instead of from launch, a good player might even get the missile close enough that they hit instantly.
Flares seems to work like ECM jammer from BF3/4 in this game. They don't remove already fired heatseeker like old flare used to do. Instead they make it so you cant be locked on for a few seconds. And already fired heatseeker will circle around you until the effect runs out before locking back on to you. But the effect lasts half as long as ECM so you are more likely to get hit after you popped a flare. With attack heli I just dive to lose altitude in hopes that the missile will hit the ground before flare effect runs out.
matter of fact, as a bf veteran, handing is never a problem for me, zero damage to the infantries and struggling to get in a jet are the real problems.
I hate the third person camera so much. It moves around so unecessarily the plane itself often blocks the crosshair. Honestly I’d say jets were a last minute addition. No roll camera off, no rear view pitch, broken lock ons, too much fun spread, awful camera, universally low free look sens. I guarantee nobody at dice knows how to fly or who to contact for advice. Once they add these features back in, and change certain aspects of it. I think it could be much more fun. But I’m also really annoyed with the way dice are making the game so easy and lowers the skill ceiling so much. New players can get in and control vehicles without needing to dedicate time to learning them. No skill gap is just boring
the 30mm unlock is very much worth it, it shreds air vehicles, is able to damage tanks but the downside is its near impossible to kill infantry with it. And it has very slow bullet velocity making dogfighting hard at first until you get used to how much you have to lead your shots. But it shreds jets in literally 1-2 seconds if ur on target
I agree, I specifically came to find tips for shaking a tail as the offensive controls feel pretty intuitive but when it comes to defense: boy howdy do these old vets stay on me like white on rice.
@@SweatDogg exactly, i’ve never been able to out loop anybody and it just feels like a game of your position relative to each other when u engage. I really just take agms and a 30 mm and go to town on the ground vehicles, and hope i notice the enemy jets before they notice me to get behind them
In all fairness that’s how it always is, it’s usually which ever jet gets behind the other first wins. Unless A) they are not as good at keeping up, B) you can loose them behind obstacles, C) they get distracted lol
Tbh I think the display in the jet cockpit should be more functional, like it should actually display enemies on the scanner and have other screens for other uses
you understand what that requires on a performance level? Consoles would not be able to handle that period and only PC with higher end hardware would be the only thing capable of enjoying that. ESPECIALLY on 128 player servers

Hover mode, Su flies infront of you, deactivate hover, now attack. As for SU-57, he did mention that it was superior in speed and turn radius. So Imagine if you get an F-35 on your 6. Pull a defensive cork screw, immelman for altitude, or wingover.
I just got the game today, I'm probably gonna hop into coop against bots to get myself used to the controls and maps as well as all of the vehicles before joining multiplayer.
So far I haven't seen anyone who do any significant damage with the aircrafts. All I see are helicopters just cruising around as so many even on ground don't want to do anything about them either. Personally I play infantry 99% of the time and I just wish more players would understand the importance of taking down the OP stuff first.
I honestly hope they won't add a no-roll camera. Keep it as it. Can get confusing in the air at times but that just adds immersion and difficulty in my opinion.
Now I just got to wait for DICE to fix lock-on and missile warnings. Currently feels bugged, or sluggish. Many times have I been hit by a missile when I don't even get a warning after dropping flares on one (and for some reason I drop flares again visually). It didn't feel like a follow up missile, just something the server didn't register.
under the current setting, there is just no need to fly jets in any way. It's a high-risk and low-reward task. Unreasonably poor maneuverability, crazily weak weapon. And you are the juiciest target of everyone else, slow-moving and huge hitbox, Perfect. Want more kills? Every other vehicle can do better than jets. GG dice.
I don't know if I've ever hit infantry on the ground in a jet. Coiuld use a tutorial just for that. Also, would be nice to have a tutorial on how to flip 180 the quickest and evasive maneuvers for escaping a pursuer. THat hover mode trick looks awesome though, gotta start implementing that. I'm not even sure how to get in and out of hover mode on purpose yet.
You probably have assisted flight control setting enabled in the settings, which Ghost Gaming probably forgot to mention also in the video. I believe it's enabled by default.
I prefer Tanks, Hovercrafts, Anti Air vehicle, Nightbird, Attack choppers and medium armored vehicles. Simply because I can get more kills with them and do more objectives.
The first time I bound SPACE to pitch up, I was afraid I was having some sort of hallucinations or mental disorder. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this weird bug (my controls are not inverted)
Guys you may sacrifice a bit of accuracy but turning up your vehicle pilot sensitivity to the max will maximize turning speed in dog fights. Tbh not that it even matters because the American is by default slower at turning than the Russian one so you will almost always lose if they enemy slightly knows what they're doing.
Console player here and I was really struggling to get kills with the jets I would either get 1 or 0 kills per game but with your tips and adjustments of setting I was able to preform the best I ever could
One tip there from me, if you don’t mind. Bind nose up/down to SHIFT and ctrl, choice is yours. I’d recommend Nose up to ctrl and nose down to SHIFT, use Keyboard to fly and mouse to aim
6:00 Russian SU 57 is way faster and turns quicker ; American F-35 has hover mode that, depending on many factors, wins dogfights or loses it instantly.
It seems that the best way to avoid re-locking AA missiles is to fly behind cover or just fly low. Missiles will explode before they get a chance to re-lock after flares. That's why I also rather use AAs against air vehicles in higher altitude, because I'll get a second lock most of the time, and a second missile will be then 100% kill. The jets are absolute monsters at gaining air superiority.
Awesome video. Could you make a video how to dog fight in 2042 especially some defensive maneuvers that can help stay alive when enemy is on my tail? I personally found I’m useless when someone decent pilot is on my tail
AC7, Project Wingman, War Thunder. All games that will satisfy you more than Battlefield for arcade air combat for less money. Battlefield is riding some ancient coat tails, I'm shocked they stuck with the same classic air mechanics as all older titles which has ALWAYS really sucked and been unsatisfying and unbalanced, yet they remove classes. Real geniuses over there at Dice. To think I applied to them in 2013, thank god I never got a reply hahaha (I'm in Canada :P).
I've been enjoying the radar missiles, the trick is to light up the enemy vehicle with your 25mm and try to time your missile once your within 50 meters and closing.
I always use flares when the "lock on warning" shows on my screen for about 2 seconds. We all saw in the first scene of BF2042 trailer that the flares wouldn't be the best way to stop an AA missile
So yeah, you said a combination of brake and afterburners for tighter turns, do these same mechanics work for helicopters? I can circle strafe, but I wanna learn how people go from full speed to turning around 180° on a dime and go right into being level and stable. I know this is a jet video but can anybody please just tell me should I be feathering the throttle, full throttle all the time, or no throttle? My 180s are wide and slow, and times that I do flip right around I end up coming out of it way high instead of maintaining altitude. Any help is appreciated.

Your video was awesome but I was wondering if you had any tips for shaking someone off your tail in a dog fight? I can never seem to shake someone on my tail. I try to do crossovers but it never seems to workout
I think I figured out why AA missiles hit you after your flare runs out. I think if the lock can be held after the duration, the original missile will get back on course and hit you. Just a guess right now, would have to test it out.
I've done it, it's like the Igla stinger from bf4 but on jet. Fire and lock on and they pop flares but if they're still around they'll get hit if ur still aiming.
I was wondering if anyone found out how to unbind freelook settings from middle mouse button in the game with patch 4.0? Now that they added joystick support, I would like to use my PoV buttons on my joystick for freelook, however unless I have the mouse middle mouse button held and do the pov setting on joystick it doesn't work. I use keyboard and the joystick btw. Any solutions :)? It's super helpful to be able to look out the left and right windows without turning the jet especially when trying to stay out of range of being locked yet still getting some situational awareness for agms or next targets.
can somebody explain to me the pitch up and down buttons? Also I might need a how to fly for dummy guide due to the fact I don't know nothing of hover mode or how to stay leveled and strafe in planes. New to MnK on Battlefield and I am usually an infantry guy...
Man it was so annoying on bf4 to be absolutely peppered by insanely good helicopter and jet pilots time and time again. But it did bring an element of fear to the battlefield. I was never great at fly helos i always used to crash the friggin thing. I preferred the jet from playing games ace combat. I was playing earlier and the jet feels insanely slow going at full throttle you can still get tagged by ground units, unless you hit afterburner and hide on the edge of the flight zone. I also thought there'd be a lot more variety of jets but theres only 1 for each nation. Theres some things i like about this game but the air combat has been nerfed so badly.
I prefer non inverted controls and have it set to that on heli but it doesn't change it for jets, if I put my jet to non inverted, my heli is inverted, could anyone help me out with that?
I love the addition of "Forced Bailout - 50xp".

Just rank up 40 killstreak with 30+ vehicles destroyed with AGM. Ground vehicles are toast if you know how to use them. AGM is very powerful.

11:20 30mm were a pain to get but I managed. In menu they are described as having more spread but I feel like there is less spread than on 25mm.
They also deal absurd damage to vehicles

Please not there is no Ecm and flares already don’t work. Every AA stuff is already deadly enough against air vehicles.

The flares are like bf4 u deploy them and still get hit
It is bugged, you have to use it as ECM Jam.
u stayed around the AO too long, the missiles are like the Iglas from bf4, they lock on after if ur still around and person still aiming.

I prefer Tanks, Hovercrafts, Anti Air vehicle, Nightbird, Attack choppers and medium armored vehicles. Simply because I can get more kills with them and do more objectives.

Guys you may sacrifice a bit of accuracy but turning up your vehicle pilot sensitivity to the max will maximize turning speed in dog fights.
Tbh not that it even matters because the American is by default slower at turning than the Russian one so you will almost always lose if they enemy slightly knows what they're doing.
My number 1 tip to get the most kills is trying to kill people from the enemy team

Console player here and I was really struggling to get kills with the jets I would either get 1 or 0 kills per game but with your tips and adjustments of setting I was able to preform the best I ever could

The AGM range is so close you often need to crash in order to land the shot

One tip there from me, if you don’t mind. Bind nose up/down to SHIFT and ctrl, choice is yours. I’d recommend Nose up to ctrl and nose down to SHIFT, use Keyboard to fly and mouse to aim

Pc players have a definite advantage in piloting with keyboard and mouse lowkey at least with helicopters for sure
6:00 Russian SU 57 is way faster and turns quicker ; American F-35 has hover mode that, depending on many factors, wins dogfights or loses it instantly.

It seems that the best way to avoid re-locking AA missiles is to fly behind cover or just fly low. Missiles will explode before they get a chance to re-lock after flares. That's why I also rather use AAs against air vehicles in higher altitude, because I'll get a second lock most of the time, and a second missile will be then 100% kill. The jets are absolute monsters at gaining air superiority.

AC7, Project Wingman, War Thunder. All games that will satisfy you more than Battlefield for arcade air combat for less money. Battlefield is riding some ancient coat tails, I'm shocked they stuck with the same classic air mechanics as all older titles which has ALWAYS really sucked and been unsatisfying and unbalanced, yet they remove classes.

I've been enjoying the radar missiles, the trick is to light up the enemy vehicle with your 25mm and try to time your missile once your within 50 meters and closing.

I always use flares when the "lock on warning" shows on my screen for about 2 seconds. We all saw in the first scene of BF2042 trailer that the flares wouldn't be the best way to stop an AA missile
So yeah, you said a combination of brake and afterburners for tighter turns, do these same mechanics work for helicopters? I can circle strafe, but I wanna learn how people go from full speed to turning around 180° on a dime and go right into being level and stable. I know this is a jet video but can anybody please just tell me should I be feathering the throttle, full throttle all the time, or no throttle? My 180s are wide and slow, and times that I do flip right around I end up coming out of it way high instead of maintaining altitude. Any help is appreciated.

I think I figured out why AA missiles hit you after your flare runs out. I think if the lock can be held after the duration, the original missile will get back on course and hit you. Just a guess right now, would have to test it out.
I've done it, it's like the Igla stinger from bf4 but on jet. Fire and lock on and they pop flares but if they're still around they'll get hit if ur still aiming.

I was wondering if anyone found out how to unbind freelook settings from middle mouse button in the game with patch 4.0? Now that they added joystick support, I would like to use my PoV buttons on my joystick for freelook, however unless I have the mouse middle mouse button held and do the pov setting on joystick it doesn't work. I use keyboard and the joystick btw. Any solutions :)? It's super helpful to be able to look out the left and right windows without turning the jet especially when trying to stay out of range of being locked yet still getting some situational awareness for agms or next targets.

Man it was so annoying on bf4 to be absolutely peppered by insanely good helicopter and jet pilots time and time again. But it did bring an element of fear to the battlefield. I was never great at fly helos i always used to crash the friggin thing. I preferred the jet from playing games ace combat.
I was playing earlier and the jet feels insanely slow going at full throttle you can still get tagged by ground units, unless you hit afterburner and hide on the edge of the flight zone.
I also thought there'd be a lot more variety of jets but theres only 1 for each nation. Theres some things i like about this game but the air combat has been nerfed so badly.
