Rest In Peace Tommy 😢 I’ll always remember the time we saw the Smothers Brothers perform at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. “Dream the Impossible Dream” has always been one of my favorite songs!! 😢
I'm a professional musician, when I was younger in the 80s. Dick Smothers happened into a local casino I was performing at in Las Vegas. He was very nice and told me how much he enjoyed my performance and gave me encouragement to keep going with my career. I think the Smothers brothers are awesome!
I heard the same FABULOUS thing where Andy Kaufman waited in line to see Elvis. When he got to him Andy said "Someday I'm going to be as great and as famous as you" and Elvis said, "You know, I believe you will".... See also Smothers Brothers - 02 - Quando Caliente El Sol
What great story. That must have been wonderful being encouraged like that. In college I performed at Birdland in NY and Count Basie came to the gig. I must tell you, he had nothing to say about me \(-_-)/
I was just a bit too young to appreciate their humor, but man on man, I am getting it now! Oddly the same jokes, songs, politicians, etc., are the same now! Just replace the name from then to who it fits today!
I used to really like these guys for their humor. Now I also really, really appreciate their talent as musicians! If they would play their songs straight through, their versions would probably be my favorites!
What a dissapointment !!! Just when I thought these guys were finally going to sing a complete song without interrupting it with their comedy... they did it again. And as always it was 1-derful !!! Haven't laughed this much in months, Thanks Smothers Brothers, you are great, truly unique, God Bless You !!! Bendiciones desde San Juan PR !!!
There are some cuts on their albums where they sing songs straight. There is even a complete album.. it is called the obvious The Smothers Brothers Play It Straight. There is an album that is half comedy and half straight songs called The Two Sides of the Smothers Brothers. I haven't heard the first one. The second one uses an orchestra. I wish it was just the regular instruments.
@@brendalg4 Jajaja !!! Thank You my friend but I was just kidding about the disappontment thing, these guys are great doing what they do, 1-derful as singers, as musicians and as humorists. God Bless you !!!
I grew up in the 60’s, listening to them on records (not even CD’s in those days). Hilarious, I listened to those albums over and over again. This is way before they were on t.v. Thanks for posting this and brining back those memories
We think of these guys as great comedians..trailblazers, musicians .and entertainers..but when you listen to the vocals their harmonies are spectacular..
In high school, a Friend and I were the" slithers sisters". We dressed like washer women and had a ball...won a few contests. Still have all my albums, almost 60 years later.....

Very nice and relaxing song, thanks for posting this video. My wife and I are listening to it in our backyard during this pandemic 2020. Hope everyone is staying safe
Don Quixote is one of the greatest stories ever told. This song sums it up. Myself, I can't watch "The Man of La Mancha" without tearing up when he sings this song. The difference between what we are and what we could be. What's wrong with trying to make things better?
I based much of the comedy I started including in my act on an LP of the Smothers Brothers at the Purple Onion. It was years before TV arrived in South Africa, but I'm eternally grateful to these two intelligent comedy giants for staring me off with a style I would never have found without hearing them all those years ago.
Oh My..how absolutely beautiful....Such heartbreaking harmony with this beautiful song..They fill my Heart with joy...So nice, so talented, so insightful. The message the Smothers Brothers believe in is strongly applicable to the issues evident around the world, right at this moment. Some of their fellow compatriots need to look at issues through their eyes..Thank you, Gilbert Howe..for this wonderful upload..Cheers. Marilyn from Australia...
Over the many years since the 1960 s , i have followed the antics of The Smothers Brothers, mostly on TV. i believe we em as Tom says can follow and achieve the impossible concepts of The American Dream today in the Canadian arena. God knows we need to. Talk over the heads o f the states or provinces to the people of this great continent and to the world at large. and our hopes for our children will never die.
@@gmoops8986 that is always a funny quote and still makes me chuckle. Truth be known, the 60s were the most unforgettable decade...at least it was for me and I was only 8 years old when it ended.
The question is not why The Smothers Brothers were cancelled, but who in the hell green lighted them. Mind you, I'm not complaining. This was a literal shining star of TV at a time when LBJ was actively working to kill me. All I had to do was reach the age of non-consent. Couldn't drink beer. Could be sacrificed in an impossible war. We had hope then because we didn't have a lot to look forwards to.

They tried back then and got their asses kicked off the air because of "offensive content". They did it with humor and terrific harmonies. Entertainers should be able to express politics. As a lot of C&W performers do also. I don't rag on them, I am not offended. So let the Smothers Brothers try to fulfill their own dream.
I totally understand what Tommy was saying. But wait, maybe that was the beer talking to me. Either way, the song was good -- as is everything the Smothers Brothers do.
