Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming
from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse's lineage coming
as seers of old have sung.
It came, a blossom bright,
amid the cold of winter,
when half spent was the night.
Isaiah 'twas foretold it,
the Rose I have in mind,
with Mary we behold it,
the Virgin Mother kind.
To show God's love aright,
she bore to us a Savior,
when half spent was the night.
O flower whose fragrance tender
with sweetness fills the air,
dispel in glorious splendour
the darkness everywhere;
true man, yet very God,
from sin and death now save us,
and share our every load.
Written by a musician born in the 1500s, and it's one of the most listened carols ever. That fact, alone, makes this music greater than beautiful: eternal.
That is one of the best performances of that song i have ever heard!Hauntingly beautiful!!
They're all wonderful, but the bass is exceptional!
A few years ago - maybe 45 - my Pastor introduced this piece - by “our dear friend Michael Praetorius” as if they had lunch earlier in the week. I howled laughing … great memories.
After the first line, I cannot make out the words, but the harmonies are perfect.
Pity. I often miss them too, but with the text above in the initial description, I can usually find my place.
Wondrous !

Absolutely stunning - you have no doubt earned your angels wings with that rendition. I hope I get to sing with you guys one day...what a privilege it would be to join in with such high caliber voices. You bring tears to my eyes...
Love the Mezzo/alto! Amazing blend, but I couldn't help but hone in on her smooth voice.
I am an alto and did the same thing, she has an amazing voice. A music teacher (my Uber driver!) recently told me "It's the Alto who gives life to a piece"
My most favorite song of Christmas. Thank you. Happy New Year to you, 2024🙏🌠
Absolutely lovely version! You've done your Creator proud.
Beautiful memories. Jennings School choir 1983 so learnt this classic still one of my favorite hymns
Beautiful just beautiful my favorite
So beautiful and reverent. Heavenly!
Brilliant. I do so wish I could hear each part isolated so I can learn it.
All the vocalists sang really well, but my favorite is the booming bass singer on the far right. What a beautiful, rich bass voice! 👏
This is so beautiful! Ethereal and angelic.
Wie schön! Ich freue mich über Ihre Interpretation! Danke! Schöne Stimmen!
Beautiful. Only four singers, but the melody is rich and plenty. ❤️
Beautiful! Such glorious harmony, a phenomenal blending of splendid voices.
Love all your individual voices and the blend is wonderful. Very moving too. Well done!
Yes, I got teary!
I listened three times - a more beautiful rendition couldn’t come from an entire choir! Just lovely - thank you!
What a beautiful performance!
This is my absolute favourite Christmas hymn. And you have made it sound even more beautiful than usual 🙂

Wow...this is *gorgeous*.
I wonder how far apart they were . Very impressive to be in different parts of a building and in step and in tune . Cant understand how
Simply wonderful!

very lovely thank you so much
Mmmm… so satisfying! Happy sigh!
Stunning performance! Fabulous phrasing, transitions, and intonation. Anyone have a link to the arrangement you used here? Putting together music for a live Nativity celebration, but all the sheet music I find is full of contemporary arranging and instrumentals that actually detract from the message and music! Any help highly appreciated!
Hi, Spencer! Thank you for visiting our "pandemic" recordings, which sustained us when we could not meet in person! There are copies of the score on this page:
hymnary.org/text/lo_how_a_rose_eer_blooming Warm regards for Advent and Christmastide!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Inspired by Isaiah 11. The coming King Jesus!
Any chance of getting the Bass solo?
Odd "translation" in spots.
They are not singing together in one room. Their eyes don’t light up like real choral. It’s good sounding but the warmth is missing in their faces.
