Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are touchscreen, and you can enable the touchscreen at any speed in the connection settings because by default they disable it while the car is in motion.
Can't remember exactly but it's in your car under the communication settings and you find the phone connected and it should be under there "enable touchscreen in motion"@@Baldissimo
I just bought a cx-50 a week ago. I love it!! I got the Premium plus …. I came from leasing Volvos the past 9 years. The Volvo leases just got out of hand for the XC 60… could not do it anymore. I’m so Happy with my Mazda…. It has all the bells and whistles, drives well, and has premium finishes. Really value for the money ….
Just switched from a ‘21 CX-5 Signature to a ‘24 CX-50 Turbo Premium and am loving it so far. Feels like an upgrade in every way (yes, I think it drives/rides better than the already wonderful CX-5-your observations are absolutely spot-on). BTW, I heard that the turn signal sound was deliberately designed to simulate a human heartbeat. ❤️
Great video on the mazda cx50 premium plus turbo I would like you compared it to the acura RDX AWD A-spec driving dynamic and give me your opinion on both which one would you choose personally. Thanks and stay safe.
Not really an apples to apples comparison. The Acura is quite a bit more money (here in Canada an A-spec is about $6-8K more than the top CX-50 Turbo) and has a more performance/handling oriented true AWD system more inline with the Audi quattro system. Whereas the CX-50 is essentially a FWD with rear wheels that engage on and off as the front wheels loose traction. It's designed so you have better bad weather and light off road traction. Its not a system that enhances handling. Both really nice vehicles but no comparison in driving dynamics with the Audi being much better. The question is would most people appreciate the difference in day to day driving and is it worth the extra $ to you? The Audi is a little more up scale but the CX-50 is pretty nice and good value for the $
The CX 55 could replace the CX 5. This car with a version of the CX 5's independent rear end, cleaned up fender cladding and a hybrid option. I'd buy one!
The move to the torsion beam rear suspension is because it allows for significantly more towing capacity (3500 for CX-50 vs 2000lbs max for CX-5) and its more rugged for off roading. Not that this is a serious off road vehicle but in light off roading and bumpy back country roads the torsion beam is much better than the more fragile IRS. The cladding is personal preference but these are the reasons there is a still a CX-5. If you want a little more refinement get the CX-5 if you want a bit more rugged looks and ability then get the CX-50. I agree about the hybrid option and its coming soon.
@spinedoc893 Man I guess that's why so many Jeeps, Land Rovers, Subarus, Toyotas and more have Torsion beams in back... oh wait. Well, anyways they can't tow as much as the CX-50 with their rear suspension setups... oh wait. Well, we all hear about all those independent rear suspension failing all the time... oh wait. Well anyways at least the CX50 has a ton of rear cargo capacity because of the tors... oh wait.
We own a 2024 Mazda CX5 Turbo (wife's car - she absolutely loves it). Recently test drove the 2024 CX50 in both Turbo and non-turbo. Preferred how the CX50 handled. Biggest ride differences: CX50 feels better on turns less body roll; the CX5 porpoises more. Both are equally bumpy on rough roads except for the CX5 porpoising more which bothers me but not the wife; Otherwise both very smooth on the freeway.
I had one for 9 months before I traded it in for my integra type s. For what it was, it was a great car that handled very very nicely for me. However suspension was a bit stiff at times, the turbo motor felt somewhat slow for me, lane keep wasn't that good, heated wheel didn't get all that hot and doesn't stay warm for more then 10 mins, and the auto climate was either under or overly sensitive for me which would be my only main complaints. At the time I thought about getting a rdx but I chose the cx50 since I got almost everything but for 10 to 15k less.
It’s good but the cx5 had a fully independent rear suspension instead of the cheaper and less refined torsion beam. Needs the updated 8 speed auto vs the archaic 6speed that it’s stuck with. Needs a hybrid like yesterday
@9:40 Do you have an opinion on the thick leather-stitched stripe down the middle of the seats? When test driving this car I found it noticeably unpleasant
Mazda pulled one over on consumers with that nonsense. Hopefully they offer some kind of upgrade option to early buyers. Seems like a lawsuit in the making to me, charging more for the same car as the 2023.
I really wish people would stop bitching about the lack of IRS on the CX-50!! The move to torsion beam rear suspension was done for a purpose and that's better towing capacity (an extra 1500lbs) and better off road durability. This is not a serious off road vehicle but nice to be able to do some off roading or bumpy back country roads without doing significant damage to the more fragile IRS set up. Is IRS more refined and better handling? Yes of course but honestly after driving both multiple times the handling/ride difference in the CX-5 vs CX-50 is negligeable. I'd bet 90% of people wouldn't know the difference if they didn't know one was IRS and the other wasn't and lets be honest this is a 4000lb SUV not a performance car. I assume the whole reason for keeping the CX-5 in the line up is for those who want that little bit more refinement and less 'rugged' looks of the CX-5.
I like Mazda but i don't care for turbo engines to many problems can come with turbos I love that there is no CVT,s to deal with that is something else that will bring problems😅
I am debating between the 2024 Mazda CX 50 Premium Plus Turbo and the 2024 Volvo XC 60 Plus. Both are very nice. I am tall 6 ft 4 in, a bit concerned with Headroom in the Mazda CX 50 but I currently drive a Nissan 2005 350Z with less headroom. Which should I buy?
Thank you for the information. I really like the 2024 Mazda CX 50 ingot blue exterior with the terracotta interior. Do you think with my height at 6 ft 4 in that I would fit confortable in the driver seat of this car?
Test drive both on all road conditions. Just got a 2024 CX-50 and wish it had a smoother suspension. Turns out only the 2024 models manufactures after November will have the upgraded suspension and steering, mine was a september build, not very happy about that.
No way to mount the inline 6 transversely in this front drive platform with out complete re-engineering of drive train to mount it longitudinally (and like wouldn't physically fit). I TOTALLY agree with your mind set though. I'd love to see an SUV this size and nice looking with the in line 6, rear biased drive train. What I was hoping was that the CX-70 would be a rear drive inline 6 sized between the CX-50 and CX-90 (ie a North American version of CX-60). Alas the CX-70 is just a CX-90 with the 3rd row seat deleted. Nice vehicle but bigger than I need/want. I love the CX-50's size and looks but don't care for front drive biased vehicles. Was hoping Mazda would make a vehicle similar to a Genesis GV70 at a little more affordable price point. Right now to get a mid sized rear biased system and ample power you need to buy fairly high end vehicles. ie Audi, BMW X3 and higher, Acura, Genesis etc.
Tucson gets226 Hp &258 torque on regular gas and that’s the fuel efficient hybrid for)37K electric power gives instant torque too a hybrid turbo woul be better ( Tucson has that)
I'm not a fan of the center fan stack (one being vertical and the passenger being horizontal). It catches my eye and I don't quite agree with this design language. I prefer a more uniform symmetrical layout.

i dislike the 20 inch wheels. it rob acceleration. i have a 2023 CX-5 signature and i have light weight 17 wheels with 225-65-17 tires year round. it's quicker.
Fun car but Mazda is not a believer in practicality. Storage for Mazda is an afterthought. Finally - insert the digital cluster found in the CX 90 and it’s third row delete version (CX 70).

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are touchscreen, and you can enable the touchscreen at any speed in the connection settings because by default they disable it while the car is in motion.
Yes, to add to that, you go into your device in Bluetooth settings (not on your phone, but the infocenter thing) to enable it.
How exactly is this done? I’d be very prudent with touchscreening when in motion just to avoid being so preoccupied with the wheel.
Can't remember exactly but it's in your car under the communication settings and you find the phone connected and it should be under there "enable touchscreen in motion"@@Baldissimo

Most of these issues are resolved in the 2024 model.
Good and cool to see Mazda making in-line 6 turbo performance sport car like in the 90’s with Japanese cars
It’s good but the cx5 had a fully independent rear suspension instead of the cheaper and less refined torsion beam. Needs the updated 8 speed auto vs the archaic 6speed that it’s stuck with. Needs a hybrid like yesterday
Ah. An actual car review. Thank you.
@9:40 Do you have an opinion on the thick leather-stitched stripe down the middle of the seats? When test driving this car I found it noticeably unpleasant
Did you test drive a 23’ or 24’? Some 24’s I think have the old seat feeling but as long as it was built after November 2023 I think it doesn’t.
What month was your 2024 Mazda CX turbo produced? If it's before November, it has not been updated.
Mazda pulled one over on consumers with that nonsense. Hopefully they offer some kind of upgrade option to early buyers. Seems like a lawsuit in the making to me, charging more for the same car as the 2023.

None: For your height cx 70 coming out soon, or cx90. Try to choose them with 4 cylinder proven engines.

I’m 6’3” and I’ve not had any problem with the headroom. It is possible for me to raise my seat up enough that my head grazes the roof.

Great details, thanks and your commenters ask great questions. I will test drive both models this spring, I promise.
So whats the big difference between the 23 and 24? Im thinking of getting a 23
Lighter steering and better “padded” ride
Depends if you want a more “sporty” ride or comfortable ride
How about an NA version of the inline 6 in this package!

Totally with that, truly wish we got the CX-50 styling and look just bigger in the CX-70 with a simple NA six option. @@spinedoc893
The 6 speed is a good proven unit and works well but pretty dated. An 8 or 10 speed would allow for even better performance and improved MPG

Yes the plastic cladding looks very cheap and is going to look horrible in just a few short years

the higher ends of Mazda are their luxury cars they dont need another brand like Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura and Nissan/Infiniti
