  • Women constitute 48 percent of the U.S. workforce but hold just 24 percent of the U.S. jobs in STEM. Even worse, only 1 out of every 10 STEM professionals is a minority woman. Women make up only 10 percent of U.S. engineers. We must change this. Today's girls are our future engineers - they naturally possess the creativity and analytical and communication skills that are the signature traits of an engineer. We must inspire them to dream big, reach higher, and pursue their passions. Join Project Lead The Way in introducing girls to the exciting career of engineering!

As a male CAD drafter who has worked in Architecture, MEP and Structural Engineering in the past 20 years, I applaud your efforts. For those aspiring ladies, note that these fields welcome you, and I have never seen any sexism or discouragement. As for salary, I've found that the pay is comparable DOE among females and males, all the way up to management/ownership level. For example, 2 years ago, I mentored a cynical young lady who's about 17 years younger than me. Today, after 2 years of relevant experience, her career promotion puts her hourly pay the same as mine! Bear in mind I have 10 times the experience. She is quite grateful for my encouragement.
