Chris Dixon (@cdixon) is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, where for the past six years he has been an active seed and venture-stage investor.

The company was acquired by McAfee in 2006. Hunch was a recommendation technology company that was acquired by eBay in 2011.
Chris has been a prolific seed investor, co-founding Founder Collective, a seed venture fund, and making a number of personal angel investments in various technology companies. Chris started programming as a kid and was a professional programmer after college at the high-speed options trading firm Arbitrade. He has a BA and MA in philosophy from Columbia and an MBA from Harvard.
He has written about his theories and experiences as an entrepreneur and investor on Medium and before that at cdixon.org. His a16z Podcast appearances can be found here.
Naval Ravikant (@naval) is the co-founder and chairman of AngelList. He is an angel investor and has invested in more than 100 companies, including many mega-successes, such as Twitter, Uber, Notion, Opendoor, Postmates, and Wish. For more Naval-plus-Tim, check out my wildly popular interview with him from 2015-which was nominated for “Podcast of the Year”-at tim.blog/naval. We also had a second long-form conversation in 2020, and you can find that here. His most recent appearance was helping me interview Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin.

thanks for saving my time
I started reading snowcrash and couldn’t get into it.
I was wondering…
Starts at 7:44
Excited for this one! Its crazy that I grew up learning about the emergence of the internet, witnessing it's grow through technological expansion and mobile personal computing, and now see the ground floor of an entirely new generation I can be part of in building.
BTC has DOGÉ, ETH has SHIB, SOL has SAMO !
Don't miss SAMO! Each generation if a new decentralized federated currency will have less risk but also less profit, still the potential of SAMOs market cap is enough for many many of us to secure generational wealth and retire before age 30.
Don't underestimate, I firmly believe SAMO will be responsible for very global and radical changes.
Thanks for this. Mad it started nearly 8 minutes in 😅😅
You’re the GOAT I looked for this comment
Thanks
You're doing God's work
I will probably listen to this at least another 10 times.
Haha same! So much packed in here. Priceless 🙌🏽
I’m currently at 14 🤯
Yes 10 times at minimum
Why not just take notes and listen to it once but just slowly?
Dense. I hear you - great thoughts and worth the replay...!
Makes me so happy to hear Naval each time on Tim Ferris show. He has so much important info and wisdom to share!!
I feel honored to listen to this ! Great speakers and priceless content for free . Thank you Tim, Chris and Naval !!
Completely agree. Very stoked listening to this. Thank you!
I like that Naval is featured in some episodes. He is like an addition to an already rich conversation turning gold into diamonds.
This just shifted the entire landscape of my future... thanks guys
This mic drop by Naval at 1:20:44 made me speechless. You couldn't articulate the selling points of web3 any better than this. Thank you Naval.
Thank you all for this conversation!! F****** WOW!! Tim, I appreciate your altruistic lens I noticed since 4 Hour Workweek - particularly the anecdote on helping kids towards the tail-end of the book. Love the patriotic passion conved by Chris and support of artists... and as always, Naval is a thought-beast! Take great care y'all ✌✌✌ #ThoughtBeasts
Thank all of you for this epic gem!! 💎💎

Nice 👍🏼
Thanks
Don't forget the first book mentioned, Godel, Escher, Bach! Highly recommended, a fun deep dive into a wide variety of subjects that are all connected by common threads of logic, meaning, self-reference.
Appreciated it. Kp was here
@@j3ffn4v4rr0 ^This - thanks for bringing it up!
To be able to listen to these men discuss these matters free of charge is a blessing beyond value. Thank you so much guys!
Man - This Podcast is a piece of History - I think even Tim doesn't realize it fully.
BTW - Show Notes are awesome!
this is as big as the Declaration of Independence and I'm only 33 minutes in. I remember playing around with a hotmail account before MS bought it. in those days the internet was a toy. I can't believe I've lived to see this

Best conversation I've listened to all year! Still digesting and absorbing the info
I think it would be good to have a video format. Great episode!
One of the most profound conversations of our generation.
“Why did I know about this in 2018 and didn’t do anything about it.
Now I am gonna.”
Will come back in two years
this is a very great podcast for understanding web3🤯.
💙
Great time to be alive.
*Listens.. 12 hours later.. Listening again and still getting great info. See you again tomorrow.
Brilliant conversation, listened to it multiple times to try and catch all of it. I think we need another one of these for 2022, one year on. Please Tim, get the gang back together and make it happen. Don't do it for yourself, or us, do it for the children!!!
Fainted & recovered… Having checked out the “Show Notes”… A scene from the movie Crocodile Dundee came to mind: “That’s not a knife. THAT’S a knife!”… There are sufficient links and information in those notes, so as to facilitate the attainment of a decentralised degree!!! Proffering up digital fishing rods! Opening not only source, but the secret sauce. Thank you Tim, Chris & Naval.
This is a fantastic one, thank you! So eye opening 👀
Lot of gems in video. Will be revisiting multiple times.
Amazing. It hits me that, the video even abstractly discussed how to improve itself. Recursive awesome = infinite awesome.
As a RUclips premium member I haven't heard an add in years... that first 7:44 seconds was painful. Sure hope the rest of this is worth it.
Legit told my self…. Was what they got paid worth it…. For the ads if I just turn off the video now and not watch the full 2 hours…
Thank you for this Tim
Just 34 mins in the podcast but this is going to be one of the most consequential conversations probably for Mankind and one that will be referenced far beyond everyone alive today. Thank you Tim! Naval! and Chris! for sharing your wisdom.

from 31:25, excellent summary of the power of web3 using very little words
That excited feeling you describe relating to the revolution of web3 is the same feeling I got when I read the nakamoto white paper back in 2013 and was like… 🤯 holy shit.. this is a MASSIVE game changer. This is a great podcast

Man - This is Golden
Thanks a lot for this Tim, we are really getting this value for free, I feel quite lucky.
100%. His guests offer such an interesting perspective.
I can’t believe this interview is free, while so many of the people I know are wasting their time scrolling through Instagram. We are early.
Incredible podcast
I’m so sick of the social media companies owning everything this is such great news. I deleted all my accounts starting 3 years ago. This is so refreshing to see what’s coming.
That is the emotional response the Web 3.0 beneficiaries are banking on to power their next financial killing.
This is INSANE, its so sad that i stumbled into this... a version of me that missed this, is NOT better off. god this was good.
So much potential in Web3 / NFTs, etc - exciting space! We make videos about this space if you're interested in a skim!
Love your videos so much they have inpired me to start my own chanell so thank you
1:38:28 “the beauty of our model is everyone uses the US dollar as it’s stable coin…you can’t stop it….it’s ultimately code…and code is just speech, and speech is just ideas….so short of turning off the internet, you’ll miss out on the greatest wealth creation in history.” Wow
Great episode!
"The Internet is bad for creative people. No, web 2.0 is bad for creative people." AGREE!!!!!!!!
Finally I can just send one video to people that ask what Crypto/NFTs/Web3 is... Thanx guys
This is where it starts
I was really hoping for this podcast in 2019 in the crypto bear market
It's the paraphrase as a muggle for me 🤣
Great podcast, Tim, very educational and thought-provoking. Seems to me that one still needs a massive following on social media or advertising/marketing to take advantage of launching an NFT or no one will ever know about it; so these non-Web-3 venues won't go away anytime soon...or am I missing something?
I really wish Tim would add timestamps like some of the others like Andrew Huberman
He has them in the show notes link in the description
Hey, could you please add time-stamps so that it's easier for us to get back to a specific moment when we visit this podcast again?
Until then... Go to the show notes. There's very detailed time codes.
What are your thoughts on the lack of "control" over crypto and nfts potentially creating massively overvalued assets?
Thinking into the future here. If there is mass adoption of these assets and no way to influence the price, then as we have seen in the past, there can be the FOMO element and behavioral finance plays a lot here.
Relating back to current times with inflation setting in and asset prices going crazy, governments trying to find that equilibrium.
I'm intrigued about the economic consequences of a scenario like this.
That intro is epic ! hahaha
Is there a video version of this? Please reply me if you know
Anyone know what timestamp has Naval describing the mountain climbing theory?
I would love to know if anyone knows about how cryptos such as Solana or XRP will be used moving forward? any guesses/extrapolations based on what is being said in this episode.
This and oculus is one of the reasons why zuck changed Facebook to Meta
2:26:00 yes. We need naval as the co-host 100%
Somebody earlier mentioned posting a link to a 35-p paper on the concepts. I hope you do…
I’m in PT for my back pain and I think they are using a device that sounds like the theragun . It’s really cuts into the pain . I didn’t know the device is for sale for use by non-professionals. I think I should get one and then I need to find a boyfriend who enjoys applying the theragun .
Omg he is talking about Thera Gun while I plug mine in…. Agreed so good😆
15:46 Naval starts talking about crypto as (one of the new) frontiers.
Tim should talk to Joe Rogan.
They are both in Austin now.
Joe also recently speculated about funding charity using NFTs.
Great podcast...
I wonder if you can make video. Like just listening is a bit boaring stuff.... Even though the podcast is great, If video of you guys talking is available then it will be wonderful.
33:53 You are gonna love this trust me
36:45
Although NFT brings justice to creators , it also creates artificial scarcity of something which is practically abundant , thereby creating disparity on internet which is as of now pretty much equal. It will take Status games to next level.
1:35:18 where is the link for this?
wow! this interview is a gift that keeps on giving. One thing that astounded me the most is how defensive and nationalistic Chris Dixon became when he talked about the risk that the US would lose innovation superiority. I think we're in for a decade of reversed globalisation where nations protect their strategic advantages by controlling the movement of talent and ideas
Good stuff
They always had an eye on me.
Tim and Chris and Naval all about the coinage… :))
The original promise of the internet was that it would provide freedom and benefit for all by providing digital abundance. Now there's too much abundance, so there needs to be a new technology to create scarcity.
For web3 and media NTFs what will stop people from just copying the content if they're just consuming it for themselves, like music or movies?
I'm all for decentralization but it seems like originals / NFTs only have value when there's a social component
There’s a surprise at 7:20
35:11 Write code only once. Yeah, like with the left-pad problem in the Node.js world in 2016😄
I love Naval so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But OMG Chris Dixon saying "No crypto company has ever spent a dollar on marketing"? at 26:10 -------- WHAT!! Seriously? All I see is marketing everywhere. Sports, Billboards, I mean.. what??????
Matttt Damonnnnnn!
That's definitely true. FTX has its name on sports events around the world now. And coins are paying YTubers to shill them all the time.
Doesn’t get more simpler:

I love what the future brings. It's really bright with the web3 coming. However, IMO, Chris Dixon's initiatives with web3 is actually still not decentralized and all the defi, dapps projects that supposedly web3 is still in a centralized pipe. If that server went down, then that's gonna be an outage, right. I'm sure they know and they think about this. Just my two cents.
Excellent. To your composabiltiy point. There is a reason you don’t kniw who Freddy keppard is. But u. Do know Louis Armstrong.
Naval has what's almost a throwaway comment at 2:19:45 about creating an NFT for a sneaker. Why is that not possible now?
Starts at 7:40
EVENTUALLY
"No crypto company has ever spent a dollar on marketing, including Coinbase, I was on the board for years, no marketing" - Chris Dixion 26:00 😂
I’m really a white belt with computer stuff, could anyone please explain will web 3 type software provide a solution for a company like Amazon controlling cloud hosting? Will these new projects be bypassing AWS or will Amazon still be able to shut down websites at will..
Actually I still think a lot of Web3 will be hosted on cloud services like AWS, Azure etc. The only difference is that it's decentralised so if Amazon shut down the AWS nodes, nodes will just pop up somewhere else and the service will keep running as usual. In other words, a single hosting provider like AWS will have very little leverage over its customers because the Web3 apps are diversified across multiple hosting providers
@@leecooper1644 THIS!! I have been wondering how this would keep corporations from silencing people. You explained it really well!
36:00 🚀🤯
@Tim Ferriss (or podcast team): Is there a reason you're deleting my comments in which I paste the timestamps from Tim's website?
Or is that an automatic process, since I'm sharing a URL (even if it leads to Tim's website)?
No hard feelings, I'm genuinely curious :)
There's other people who are managing to do it so perhaps the issue is something else?
@@joythought Not in such volume though ^^ I don't see more than 5 timestamps in any comment, so they seem to have a problem with the complete outline of the episode being in the comments here.
I would guess it would invalidate his relationship with his shows sponsors. There a lot of commercials here people would gladly skip past.
@@martinmckenna759 Yeah, I can get behind that... But why then publish them on his website? 😁 And RUclips isn't even Tim's main platform, as far as I can tell.
🤷♂️
@@samuelvilz but the advertisements are not only from RUclips. I pay for RUclips premium or whatever it’s called and Tim’s advert partners copy still make it in. He inserts them into all his content on every platform. That’s how the money is made. The only way you can avoid with some content creators is if you pay for a premium service.
