Oh, Amanda - I am so pleased you reacted to this! I knew you would resonate with Aurora's message. I'm so glad u went for this! I suggested it some months ago.
The history behind it was when she read that over 2/3 of all who commit suicide was men, and wondered: "Is it because you never talk about your feelings, cry and let it all go?".
What really gets me is the moment she lets go of the scissors who nearly drowned her.
The Norwegian pixie (yeah she is really tiny), is very into hard issues like domestic abuse (recommend checking out "It happened quiet" stripped down at "the current"), environmental issues ("the seed"), LGBTQ-rights, anti-racist, mental health etc.
Aurora is a very shy person which has something with her autism, (which never held her back for making music since she was really really young,) but becomes this big bubble of joy when performing live getting really into the music. "Graveyard" Live KEXP, is one of my favourites. Dark theme, but so captivating!

This charismatic petite powerhouse shines as brightly as the northern lights for which she is named. Aurora's music will make you cry, smile, laugh and dance sometimes separately, sometimes all at once. The official videos have lots of symbolism but the true gems are her live performances. The lyrics she writes (beginning at age 9 and in English, so not her first language) are amazingly insightful and wise for one so young (only 25 now). Take the time to check out performances from the Nobel Peace Prize concert (2015), Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral, 2017), HAIK ( filmed in 2019 in the forest where Aurora played in her childhood) and interviews where her quirky personality comes to the fore. Go on the Aurora journey and she will bring you endless joy. PS The scissors in the video are the ones Aurora uses to cut her hair and pizzas.

I have an odd relationship with crying. I often don’t cry in the moment because in that moment I’m not affected that way. But later on, something will trigger it and then the tears flow. Thankfully, life’s been pretty good to me so I’ve not had many reasons to cry.

She calls her fanbase warriors and weirdos as she sees those that struggle in this world as true warriors who have overcome so much more than those who neatly fit in. That could be whatever makes you different or unique including mental health or sexual identity or whatever your being experiences. Aurora is all about her live performances though. She is one artist who brings her music alive on stage... no music lives through her. I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

Not suicidal, just not particularly interested in living. Except for my concern about who will take care of the cats, raccoons, ‘possums, skunks, trolls, whatever, when I’m gone. I’ve had a good run and no one will be too devastated. The Pink Floyd song “Comfortably Numb” is about a band member getting drugged up so he can perform. But to me it means just comfortable with whatever happens. Not through drugs, just natural insanity. Keep your focus on homeless vets. They deserve your help and love probably more than anyone.

Very good analyze. And yes this song is about not afraid to show emotions (for example to cry). Holding your emotions is not good. Also she said that she wrote this song after she read that men suicide ratio is higher than woman and she things it is because society does not allow men to show emotions.
In my opinion this plants growing from her eyes represent tears/emotions and she cut them (not lettings them free). And then she is in water (IMHO symbolizing several things but also suicide). But then she throw away scissors = release emotions. To be honest I am not sure about very last scene which is beautifully but also not fit to good ending:).
Hope you will react more for her songs. She has many great songs but I would recommend Lucky from Nidarosdomen :).

First, you had me at plethora, my favorite word. I understand the male difficulties with emotions. One of my must complex one is dealing with my anger. I don’t get angry at people, but situations. I get angry at the difficulties of loved ones illnesses. Or struggles in life. I get angry at my physical health. But these are intangible things, and I don’t know where to channel the anger. The fight or flight, and my body wants to fight. But fight what? I don’t get angry at people, not physically. I’m still learning how to cope with this.

Mental health issues is a huge problem around us all over the world and governments don't take it serious enough. Keep on what you do and keep on spreading that beautiful smile. I suggest that you react to a fellow countryman to Aurora (her name is taken from Aurora Borealis/ The northen lights). The artist i talk about is Angelina Jordan she is an empat just like Aurora. You should see how Aurora deals with her emotional times. her song little boy in the grass was written by her in responce to lossing a friend in the mass shooting in Norway. Her song why did you have to go was written and sung by her at the funeral of a friend killed in a car accident.

Aurora is an awesome artist from Norway, who puts her entire being into her performances. I am sure there are many people who have used Aurora's unique music to help their mental health. I am so lucky to have found that with another Norwegian musical artist, Angelina Jordan. I have reached a much better place emotionally since learning of her music. Amanda I look forward to your reaction to Angelina.

Aurora is a brilliant, young singer who becomes fully involved with her performances. Social commentary, and observation of Human Nature on MANY topics can be found in her music. Her performances of The Seed (Haik Concert)--Environmental Activism, Murder (5,4,3,2,1) at 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert -Euthanasia topic; Through the Eyes of a Child (Nidarosdomen Cathedral) View everything with an open Mind; Life on Mars (David Bowie Cover) NRK version -Hauntingly Beautiful; Exist for Love (Live at Bergen); Lucky and many others are absolute gems from Aurora. Please continue to react to her videos. It's good for the soul....and for the mind.

I absolutely love Aurora but if I were to make a list of my 50 favorite Aurora songs, this wouldn't make the list. This song is amazing so that says a lot about how incredible she is and hopefully piques your interest enough for you to continue this journey. Being a mental health advocate, you really need to go down the Aurora rabbit hole. Her songs are very often about mental health struggles and overcoming adversity. I do have 2 suggestions for your future Aurora reactions. First, make sure you always have tissues nearby and second, try to react to her live performances rather than music videos. When she's on stage she bleeds emotion through her eyes and voice and you can't take your eyes off of her. She's like an angelic hypnotist who sweeps in and transports you to another realm. Her concert at Nidarosdomen Cathedral is breathtaking. I highly recommend any song from that one. 🙂

On the topic of repressing/pushing down emotions; I think this is very relevant for people with addiction. A lot of the time people who has not have a good start where dealing with emotions is accepted and encouraged, end up using one or more substances to escape the feelings and emotions instead of dealing with them. It is certainly true for me, when it comes to dealing with feelings/emotions I just rather escape, for me it is by alcohol, but what I hear in support groups is along the same path; feelings are hard, and so is connecting to who you really are deep down. To allow those feelings and thoughts and process them is really really hard, but I believe it is the only way to actually get better in the long term, you need to connect to those feelings and really process them to be able to move forward.

You pretty much hit the meaning between the light and dark. Aurora’s music often has messages on the dark side, but she makes them palatable with the lightness and beauty of her musical composition. The River is a struggle between who she is and what she wants to be or can become. The green growth is a possibility of a new beginning, but she cuts it off because she’s unsure whether she can let go. There’s so much pull by her on life. But the song keeps the refrain, “I Let the river run wild”. We see a real struggle for her as to what to do; connect with a new beginning or remain in the past. She chose freedom when she dropped the scissors so her world can grow out of the confusion she left behind. Then the refrain really pushed it forward, with her running free and Solje’s masterful addition in the background singing. As she said, you can cry for the past. After all, it was part of our world. But like a river flows in and around everything put in its path, we can be just as free of the things that holds us back or keeps us stuck. There are two scissors; one in the room where she struggles to let go, and one near the river as she watches it flow. She makes her decision, dropping the scissors, running towards life, while the leaves are producing beautiful flowers ( memories) over her body. She is letting them out At the end, we see her covered with the flowers, which are symbolic too of her having “Let the river run wild” within her. If you really want to see how beautiful this song can be, watch her sing it symphonically.

She sings it so hauntingly beautiful with the orchestra.

Wonderful reaction! So true about leaning into sadness. If you are always at one end of a spectrum, then that one end becomes the spectrum and it shifts. You can't be above median "happy" more than 50% of the time, it's just not mathematically possible!
Aurora is wonderful, and I hope to hear more. I also would love to hear your take on Dimash singing SOS (the 2021 version), since most reactors get overwhelmed by his jaw-dropping vocal abilities and the message of struggling with suicide gets lost.

Aurora's live performances are by far the best. Her commercially directed videos like this are over produced and don't do her voice, personality, and true appeal shine thru. Try Aurora- It happened Quiet (Live at the Current). Just Aurora with one female back up singer who also plays acoustic guitar. Beautiful, magical, inspirational. Amanda, this song may haunt your dreams. My take- Aurora is recalling an escape from a bad relationship. Sad but female empowering at the same time.

Times I couldn't sleep well. Then I got on Prozac and a sleeping pill. Now all my my grandparents are gone,as well as my Mom. 2020 took alot. I think I cry to much and to easy. I'll never end my life or try to. But the pain can be to much. Even typing this I'm crying, maybe cuz it's my second Thanksgiving without my mom and grandma.

Big family get-together times in the calendar always bring strong memories of the people I've lost flooding back in an overwhelming way. I guess it shows just how much they all meant to us and that they'll never be forgotten.
Another Aurora song that I listen to when those memories are particularly hard to deal with is Why Did You Have To Go? ruclips.net/video/NQEo635ZrUQ/видео.html She wrote it when a close friend of hers sadly died in a car accident, then performed it at her funeral. It is an unreleased song but the mother of her friend posted it on facebook in a touching tribute video with family photos. The words of the song really resonate with me and perhaps will with you too? (warning: it leaves me in floods of tears so will likely have a similar effect on you. I feel a bit better afterwards though).

You don't cry too much. You've lost a lot and your body and soul need to process it. Be kind and empathetic to yourself. I give you permission to cry all you need! I started a memory journal after I lost my parents. It helped me keep them alive. Then I started finding ways to share their love with the world.

As a child, I very much grew up in the "Macho Culture" of never allowing emotions to get in the way of logic and reason. I'm 43 and, only until recently have I been able to explore how to properly (for me) process emotions. For the past 6 years, I've laughed, I've screamed, I've squealed from excitement, and I've cried. My crying was unsustainable; meaning it wasn't processing properly (for me) I understood why other people had to do it: Joy, sorrow, relief. I just couldn't see past my mind still holding on to that old, tattered thread of "I'm afraid of what'll happen and what others will think of me."
AURORA's music found me, about a year ago, still struggling with the whole why should I cry thing. First, it was her Tiny Desk Music performance; which is wonderful. Then, this song. This gentle, courageous, sensible, realistic, and liberating song. My insides screamed YES!!!! And so did my voice........audibly and loud. I had to come back another day to watch the video because my tears flowed from the lyrics that I heard and I couldn't see, But, for the first time, I was ok with that. "Do you miss the sadness when it's gone?" My answer is no, I don't. Few lyrics have resonated with me as strongly as this simple, yet deep question. It brings me that much closer to the person I'm supposed to be.
So, another day or so passes and I remember to watch the video. It pairs so well with the message within the song. I almost got through the entire video, but when she let go of those scissors.........I couldn't see the video again (because of the tears and all). But I came back and I continue to watch AURORA videos and listen to her music and watch people's reactions because my heart was telling me to.
Your reaction to this song/video was a gem of a reaction. Thank you for speaking about mental health and embracing the fact that it's ok to feel. Thank you for allowing us to "flow" in the comment section.
If I may make an AURORA suggestion, I would definitely recommend ANYTHING from her. (Got you😉) Keep rocking those kitten ears!!
