      Lynn spins his fastball really well. That's why it has the jumping effect at the end of its flight path and why Trout swings under it, because he instinctively expects it to drop more than it does.

    If you’re a pro that can get away with throwing almost 90% fastballs, you’re a very interesting pitcher to me

    • @TheGeorgeD13
      @TheGeorgeD13 3 года назад +269

      What’s fascinating about Lynn is that his speed isn’t even that fast. He’s mid-90s. You’d think to get away with throwing that many fastballs, he’d have to be like Aroldis Chapman in his pitch speed, but no.

      You can see the control he has. That has to be the difference. The FB down the middle on the first pitch and then the ability to place it just a bit up and away or up and in makes the pitch look so similar to the batter then they swing under it. Batting is hard enough but when you get a pitcher that has control like that it looks next to impossible to hit the damn ball.

    Lance Lynn is a beast
    Has been since he first came up in 2011
    Been watching him since then
    He really started challenging people with his fastball like that in 2013. He will mix in a curve and a cutter then go right back to that 4 seam fastball and blow you away with it at 94-98 mph because of the pitch slot and the arm angle as well as the speed compared to thr other pitches. Its a sneaky fast pitch that he hides better than most pitchers. Next thing the batter knows they are swinging at air cause even when they are looking for it its hard to catch up to. Was sad to see Lynn leave Stl.

  • @joebobmarley2854

    Lance Lynn dominates a great fastball hitter because he has one of the best fastballs in baseball. And that is because he can move a fastball in all directions with alot of movement in all directions. His cutter , 2 seam, 4 seam combo is one of the best, you never know which direction its going to move, not to mention he wraps his wrist around the ball nicely and makes it hard to pick up the spin out of his hand, and he throws across his body slightly, so all of that combined, the movement with the angles, and deception is why he has been one of the better horses in baseball for quite a few years now. He has had one hell of an impressive major league career... and he spins the baseball really well, and hes a big guy, pretty good extension toward home plate and hes right on top of the hitter.. but that across the body mechanics is very hard on righties.

  • @EMharie77

    Righty on righty, can hit up and in with ease because of the good fastball command, it kinda makes sense. Trout has a bit of a hole in his swing up and in, and for the most part will just give that to pitchers who paint it. Really smart pitching by lynn in that final AB. Command over your pitches like that, especially at high velo is a real money maker. Cool breakdown!
