Lawerence is a headliner. Who are the Johnas Brothers?
You spelling Jonas wrong was chefs kiss
IMO from the live recordings I’ve heard, Lawrence is even better live than in their studio tracks.
As a musician, my band is also a big proponent of playing without backing tracks or additional assistance. It’s special to hear an artist PLAY live, not just to hear their album in a venue. Keep it up Lawrence!
Came here to say the same thing. Listened to the album and heard a LOT of over-production. That puts distance between me (a music nerd) and the performance. I hear them live and it's just real, human, perfect, imperfect, endlessly interesting.
I don’t mean to be “judgey” about bands that use backing tracks for “live” shows, but when I pay to see musicians play I am there to…see musicians play. I can sit at home and listen to recorded music all day. I suspected that Lawrence was a band that didn’t use backing tracks the first time I saw a RUclips video of one of their live performances. I realized instantly from the lack of perfection that what I was hearing was simply a recording of what actually happened. So much music is “manufactured” - built to specifications and duplicated at each performance by meat robots. I feel bad for musicians who can’t spontaneously add a few measures, change songs mid-song, vamp for a while, etc. A long, long time ago, Bruce Springsteen was interviewed about his recording process, which was often with the whole band in a big room, and he said that he didn’t like to do too many takes, because, “If it got any better, it wouldn’t be any good.” I think about that idea often when I see live music, because sometimes it’s so perfect that it is boring. Fortunately there are many excellent bands (Of course, Lawrence is one) who are staying “outside the box” and performing, not replicating.
I absolutely love their approach to live shows and bringing the authenticity to the front. Nothing better than a REAL acoustic sound w/o all of the digital tuning... In my opinion these are the things we remember and cherish after the shows! No Spotify can come close ❤
I’m fucking loving this series so hard
Lawrence is at its best when you’re just hearing all the musicians perform
Thank you for taking such concrete steps to make live shows different from the album. It's a bummer to get to a live performance and think, "I have this exact experience at home."
At the same time, I love that many of the vocal melodies and as libs are also in the live performances. It can be disappointing when I'm expecting a line or a run, but it doesn't come. I found Lawrence are incredibly consistent in including vocal bits that I would even really expect to be possible to do live consistently
One of the many things I love about you guys is you are stacked with stellar musicians. With that kind of ability, it's no wonder you slay night after night, record after record. Loving this doc series too! Can't wait for the next installment!
Way too many acts rely on backing tracks, recorded sound effects, etc. You guys are super authentic! That's one of the many reasons I love what you do!
If and when these guys come to Australia, I will be going to EVERY single show. I'm pretty sure I was the first Australian to ever order Lawrence merch, I even have a photo in front of the Sydney Opera House (where I am hoping to see them perform one day).
So keen for an Aussie tour!
It’s absolutely criminal these videos don’t have 200 million views.
my #1 playlist for the past month, LAWRENCE!🥳🚀
a decade and a half of trying to figure out the best way to "do it live" and the big reg button just broke my brain. amazing.
really hope you guys come to london again, these shows look like the most fun
Love love love you lot so much - come to the UK!
I’ve just heard of Lawrence and I will be forcing the music down the throats of everyone I know! Idec!
You guys (& girls) are the real! Just found you and I'm completely blown away from the musicianship and the work you put in! Hopefully you guys travel to europe sometime in the future I'm in love with your songs and this docuseries is so so amazing!
Amazing, cheers from Argentina, come play!
I was there in Seattle!! Love seeing you guys live any time!
OMG it would be so cool to hear some more of the demos!!!! it's awesome to see how songs develops 🥰
agreed 💛
These videos are amazing! Thank you for documenting and sharing it with the world!
Can't wait for the first full live show to be posted!
Love the content as always, love seeing Seattle 💚💙, but also shout out to the video editor, it's so good!!
appreciate you!
@@jamesstephenroberts Oh hey, glad you saw this! I do editing as a hobby so I can get really judgy about it 🤣 but the rhythm of the cuts and transitions in all these videos have been so smooth. 👌
thanks so much!! @@kjononsense
This show was one of my favorite experiences. I hope to one day make it to an NYC show!!
Ahhhh, here in my hometown, Seattle at the Neptune! Love you all! Fingers crossed you revisit this place again! And love hearing about you as kids. Hearing the Elton John song for the first time...epic! And can see how that is an influence on your playing. Looking to seeing you live!
I probably annoy people with how much I talk about and LOVE Lawrence! Just bought tix to your popup in Fayetteville next week! See you there...for the first time!!
brilliant doco series.
Would absolutely love a DVD/Bluray release of a concert.
It'd be such an easy purchase.
Oh look it’s my favorite television show
Cool to see and learn about the process! Lawrence live shows are so lively and engaging
Love every second!! and yeah wow I didn't know that about the back tracks! Incredible!!! Keep doing you!!!
Its pretty tragic these awesome siblings lost some of that wind at their sails. I feel like that tour was going to be the breakthrough. We are rooting for y'all big time. See you guys in denver.
They are opening for the Jonas Brothers tour this fall so I think they found their way back 😍
Can’t wait for the next one
1 week!!
Def discovered Lawrence at a Jon Bellion concert and never looked back. ❤❤❤
Me sinto tão parte de tudo vendo esses documentários, amo muito o crescimento de vocês!
I don't even understand you and still second this.
🤣🤣🤣🤣@@mortenrollsen271
Love you guys!
This band is the real deal. This video is amazing!
I'm a little obsessed with this band
Love you guys ❤
At some point we need to see Clyde channel his inner 'Ringo' and bust out a drum solo!!
Been loving these Documentaries! Keep it up gang. Very excited to see yall perform in cleveland again!!!
I’m a classical violinist and honestly this background doesn’t strike me as too alien to our prep for concerts
I actually prefer the live recordings of lawrence over the album versions if I had to pick, such amazing musicians!
Totally with you here. Especially when it comes to the Hotel TV album, it feels like they're having fun picking samples and going to the extremes when creating sounds, but it doesn't always do the song justice. I love their live performances. Same with the latest song "I’m confident that I’m insecure", I prefer the version they did with Nu Deco Ensemble much more than the album.
I love seeing behind the scenes to understand how all the love arrangements come together, it’s so awesome to see
I absolutely love you guys. Your musical approach and integrity really resonates with me
I hope you all are able to do what you want for as long as y’all want to. Y’all’s live show was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
Love your music, and y’all seem like cool people too.
It goes without saying that Clyde and Gracie are absolute stars but it never ceases to amaze me how talented the rest of the band are as well. It's like save some talent for the rest of us guys.
Is anyone as committed to the "everything you hear is physically played on stage"? I've been battling with this for a while and to hear you say that and have that as a core value is refreshingly validating. Thank you for being rad, Lawrence :)
First off, I love you all. Seriously Lawrence puts on the best live shows ever, but unpopular opinion: I wish ya'll weren't touring with the Jonas Brothers. On the one hand you desreve the massive exposure it brings, but maybe i'm just that old guy on his porch yelling at kids to get off his lawn. I have no interest in the Jonas Brothers and it puts ticket prices out of reach. I just want ya'll all to myself at a mid-size venue like Thalia Hall/Metro/Aragon/The Vic/Concord/House of Blues (Chicago Venues). Thats all, but in the meantime I'll keep burning a hole through your albums. So deliciously good!
Die hard fan ❤ love you guys
Marc Lawrence with the Binghamton hat!!!
Please come back to Toronto as headliners.
Gonna need a live album at some point!
I knew you were great live from the albums before coming to see you in Amsterdam. The horns playing a lot of melodies that wouldn't be in the live performance otherwise works really well and I wouldn't mind having more of the recorded versions with the horns playig those lines.
What I only really realised when seeing you live is how good the backing vocals are. They all sound great and are really important to making the songs sound good live.
I'll never forget when this album came out. Lawrence had a Zoom call with a bunch of fans and walked us through Hotel TV track by track. Being able to see the horn charts, while Clyde talked about vocal arrangements helped me see and appreciate the music that much more. Congrats on opening for the Jonas Brothers, but can we get a Lawrence and Friends tour next? Maybe get some Victor Franco, Brass Tracks, Jak Lizard, Dani Murcia, or Hi-Low Jack? Just an idea...
100% agreed. The Jonas Brothers thing is a huge opportunity for them all, and man have they earned that, but I want to see them as a headliner again!
I gotta know - who made the custom sample playback buzzer? It’s so sick!!
This gives me the chills!!! BEAUTIFUL!!
who's filming this thing?! w cinematography 👌
manager zach is spot on a 1:20, I just went to the jonas brothers concert last week not even knowing there was an opener and now I have all 3 lawrence albums downloaded and on heavy rotation. guess I was a little bit spoiled that my first experience with lawrence was live 🤣 because there is a clear difference. they are masters of the stage!
Welcome to the party! If you like Lawrence I'd also recommend Sammy Rae and the Friends, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Lake Street Dive, Theo Katzman, and Vulfpeck!
Same here! Didn’t even know there was an opener as I wasn’t the one who got tickets, I just joined some friends. I was amazed by their performance, enjoyed it more than the actual concert honestly. The next day their song came on at work and reminded me of how amazing they were… now I’m binging everything and falling in love with their character even more!
LFG!
Do y’all have the click going in your IEMs during live shows?
When the fuck will they come to new orleans? And why are they performing as openers instead of the main ticket? I don't want to drive 8hrs to Austin just to see them open for Jonas Bros.
hey kids…
Gracie: you know i don’t really know what i know but ( and i know) thanks, i’ll let you in on a little secret, i don’t really think anyone knows anything at all, like what do you know Clyde?
Clyde: well i’m confident that i’m insecure
Gracie: i’m confident that i’m insecure
Clyde: i’m confident that i’m insecure
Gracie: i’m confident that i’m insecure
Clyde: Linus, Jordan what about you guys?
Linus: i’m confident that i’m insecure
Jordan: i’m confident that i’m insecure
Cue mini solos 😄
Shake it loose together
MY FAVORITE BAND and I cant wait to see them open up for Jonas Brothers!
I HATE going to a live show only to realize the band I'm seeing are using backing tracks... it sucks... You're doing it right Lawerance!
4:33 How rude of you, Clyde 🤣
No backing tracks is the way to go, shits real.
Bump
This is the real life Archies Music
I admire them not using backing tracks. I mean, bands have been using samples for a very long time, and they are fine when just filling parts you don't have enought musicians onstage for. But today it's way overboard, to the point where if something goes wrong with the backing track, the band can't go on. That's really sad. For Lawrence, if that big red button fails, the show easily can go on...
those voices and that band do not need backing!
You did so good at the Jonas Brothers concert when you performed
I hope my daughter is as cool as Gracie
1:15 I am one of the ones who went to a Jon Bellion show and left as a LAWRENCE fan 🥹❤️🔥
