Question for you guys. What are your thoughts if you taste a specific varietal of wine and the wine doesn't taste as the varietal should. Do you find that as a fault. I once tasted an amazing Merlot from a very big producer in the Napa Valley (Peju) and it tasted like an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon, I didn't know what to do with it except totally enjoy it. I for one have a huge issue with a white Cabernet Sauvignon as the varietal is "supposed" to be red. In my opinion, I would never review such a wine. On a separate note. John, you spent 16 pounds ($20) on 16 ounces of beer? I am assuming this wasn't the first beer of the evening so I will excuse the matter :)

@DesertWineGuy , that is an interesting question! John M would mark it down if it didn't represent in his view the varietal standard. I (John L) would not, however, as I tend to concentrate on the resultant taste and not make compasions to what it should taste like. So I guess the answer to your question is both! 🤣 Hope you are keeping well 👍🏻

    Hi guys,
I'm off for a meal tonight and I'm looking for a wine pairing. I'm ordering pan roasted breast of Gressingham duck with dauphinoise potatoes, glazed with black cherries and pan jus. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
PS: A friend of mine recently bought a pint of stout in London for £25 and the barmaid knocked it over him.

Hi @RobertAPattison - personally, I would go for a Zinfandel, but obviously, if you don't like Zinfandel, probably not a good choice! 🤣 If they have a wine waiter, ask his opinion as they will be aware of the taste of the wines they have on their list. Zinfandel can vary significantly. (Like all varietals as it comes down to the 4 Vs - Varietal Vintage, Vineyard, Vintner) 😀👍🏻 Let us know what you choose and how it pairs 😀 Cheers John L

@RobertAPattison Phew! I hope he had drunk some before it was spilt, so at least he got a little extra 🤣
