Very informative. I am a VIP WITH SALT STRONG and I do use nlbn. As the new kid on the block, I think they do a pretty decent job catching. A couple things that did not get mentioned is that they have a base of colors that are available at some tackle stores( so no shipping costs) the other thing is that they do offer a variety of new colors (on top of the many profiles) that come out every 2 weeks that they offer to those who sign up. Anyway, Thank you Pat, as always you have provided us with food for thought!
Thanks for the info David! I wish I didn’t have to pay for shipping but there’s no real tackle stores near me, just box stores and they don’t carry the NLBN. I’ve seen some of the Limited Colors and they do look interesting but as they say, most lures are designed to catch fishermen. The base colors they have as standard I feel is a good representation of colors that I personally would use. I am looking forward to trying the Mini Mullets, I feel that is something unique and has a solution no one else offers. Appreciate you watching!
I like the NLBN product. The lure might get bit in half by pesky little puffer this or puffer that, BUT a) that's part of the price we pay when fishing (NOT catching) and b) due to its screw on lock in place method, the NLBN lure is not getting pulled off the NLBN jig head or dislodged from it.
Use the NLBN mini mullet for weedless with a 2/0 bkk titan diver or titan rider hook. Diver is weighted rider is non weighted. I've caught more snook in the past year on the mini mullet than any other artificial. Fresh mullet color has been the most successful for me on the south west coast.
Rip Tide makes a good paddle tail, there pretty durable and have a good swimmin' action. Ive caught both my PB snook ( 36" ) and trout ( 24" ) on them.
Setting up tandem DOAs with two different colors, typically with one being white the other a darker color works freakin great for me. Plus the fact that I can use either a weedless or traditional jig head is awesome. And, like it was said you can't beat the price on those DOAs. A little stink of your choice also enhances your catch probability.
The only advantage NLBN has currently is that most people don’t realize how easy it is to pour your own baits. You can get a couple of nice molds (or even make your own) and a couple versions of plastisol for different bait hardness, and then you can produce an endless amount of colors to your own preference and in the end, it’s cheaper than going back and paying the NLBN marketing premium over and over. And for what it’s worth, I live on the IRL and unless you’re skipping mangroves, I find the NLBN paddletail to be the least effective paddletail.
@@jakobteehart If i'm using a traditional jig head with the zman, I like to put a small drop of super glue on the jig head to lock it on. Works great for me and as long as the tail doesn't get bitten off, can go a whole day with just the one bait quite often.
I’m sorry but I love catching fish and if that means paying a little more to do so than so be it. The way I see it. If I’m skippin into mangroves I need that tail moving while it’s falling around structure and NLBN does that. Point is, you get what you pay for.
Could you do a test against the Zman? That’s all I have used I tried the nlbn and for the price they are they tear up so easily. So is the price worth it when it comes to landing better fish?
I've used NLBN 3 inch paddletails and I really don't like them. The tail just doesn't look very natural to me. I'll keep sticking with the Zman minnowz.
Im a huge ZMAN fan and always will be. That said I have been hammering the trout with the 3inch nlbn pearl. Only problem i have with zman paddletails theyll twist up every other fish and the NLBNs dont.
Thanks for doing this! I agree the cost is high. NLBN is not worth it in my opinion. I have a few of the K-tails (weedless) and have not caught anything on them.
Any lure works honestly. A DOA, NLBN or ZMann paddle tail all look the same to a fish. It’s all marketing. Color sometimes matters but that’s about it. I use all 3 of these companies but ZMan is the best considering the durability. I don’t mind paying $6 for a pack when I can use a single ZMan all day.
Honestly, probably not. Reason is most people will argue that I wouldn’t be neutral. That’s why I chose these two to do the comparison, we don’t sell either one.
In the end lures are for catching fisherman not fish. If your location, presentation, and conditions all match well you’ll catch any fish on any lure. Save some money become a Salt Strong member and or 100pk of 2.0 lures and they’ll last you a long time
It’s all about finding the feeding fish! There’s no magic lure that makes fish appear. Find the fish and everything Elise becomes easier! Thanks for watching and the feedback.

I usually take everything, zman, nlbn, doa and whatever else is at hand, whatever works that day, gets to work, different days, different lures.

That screw lock does hold well but they need a weedless rigging option for the paddle tails.

I definitely want to try those, they look interesting. I’ll do a video when I do. Thanks for the feedback!
And the winner is zman 😂 good video pat! Tight lines
Thanks for the report Pat.
No problem!! Thanks for watching
No problem Don!

You can snip off the head of soft plastics to fit the nlbn jigs aswell
Great comparison, Pat! Keep ‘em coming!

The ole donkey rig!! That works like a charm! Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Pat, I have caught Tarpon and Jacks on NLBN lures, and actually nothing on the DOA. PLUS, the jigheads are great, but costly!
I will say those jig heads are premium they just need to make them weedless. Thanks David!

ZMAN beats both, It has the all the pros from both NLBN and DOA
I can't get my zman to stay on the hook and also can't use twist lock weighted hooks. Still, I enjoy using them
@@jakobteehart use a lighter to heat up the twist lock for a couple seconds then twist on your zman

@jakobteehart get ZWG hooks by Zman. Or, chinlockz hooks made for Zman. Your lure won't come off
I do the same@@kevindeuschle3413

The NLBN does that for sure, I just with they made a weedless option for the paddle tails.
I wish NLBN release a 4 inch paddle tail.
Yes, agree. There should be a size between the 3" & 5" lures. 3" is great during the day, but I'd like a 4" for night/ low light fishing.
True! So many times I’ve switched to a four inch tail and picked up a better bite.

At 7:00 are you at the kayak ramp at wseg?
I bought the NLBN and fished the Keys and mangroves for 3 weeks….never got a single bite throwing into schools of snapper, grouper, yellows, etc.
Thanks for doing this! I agree the cost is high. NLBN is not worth it in my opinion. I have a few of the K-tails (weedless) and have not caught anything on them.
Because it’s the K tail and not a 3” paddle tail? Cmon use your head
No problem! Glad you liked it.

Pat, great info 👍🎣👍
Thanks!!
NLBN is super expensive but man I love them and DOA lures I do prefer NLBN way more but man pretty even
Are you going to do a comparison between the no live bait and the SS 2.0???
Honestly, probably not. Reason is most people will argue that I wouldn’t be neutral. That’s why I chose these two to do the comparison, we don’t sell either one.
What motor you got on your live board
Just use what you like. It’s about putting something “food-like” in front of them

DOA needs to update their CAL tails to a bigger boot tail. They do that and the DOA will on top just behind maybe ZMAN cuz of their longevity

I’ll stick to DSL & slam shady

Try them on a chatterbait maybe?
That Chatterbait will make anything have action!

Nlnb is better

Just buy a mulletron lt.
NLBN has way better action. Not a fan of DOA.
slam shady 2.0 has best of both worlds. durable and great action even on a slow retrieve
I would choose the 2.0 over both of these.
Only da slam shady is a color and a lure. It confuse da fish.
Nlbn doesn’t look natural
