RIP champion, I’m happy he got to see United succeed even after his playing career. Legend gets thrown around a lot but he is an actual embodiment of the word. Fly High 🕊️
One of the best speeches from Gary ever! I’m too young to remember Sir Bobby but my dad used to talk about him every single week when we sat down to watch MOTD. I’ll enjoy watching all his clips now. RIP Sir Bobby and my Dad xx
I’m a Liverpool fan. Grew up though with Sir Bobby as my ultimate hero. Even went to his school of soccer as a boy back in the late 80’s! The man was pure class.. the stories of how he recovered from the plane crash… the fact he won the World Cup… as one half of a pair of brothers… that he won the European cup ten years after Munich… etc etc etc… His really was a career like few others and I have nothing but absolute respect for Sir Bobby. Easily the greatest English player ever. It turns my stomach that first Rooney and now Kane have taken his goal scoring record. RIP Sir Bobby.
Sir Bobby Charlton is the blueprint of what a Manchester United player should be on and off the pitch he was and still is Mr. Manchester United it's easy to forget that he was there long before Sir Alex Ferguson who built the modern Manchester United but it all stems from the busby babes I'll never forget him crying in 1999 that win was for the busby babes that's why its the greatest treble of all time.
To be honest, I think it would be hard for any player to live up to this legendary career, but at least I hope players see him as a Standard and Role model, something to aim for. Manchester United, England, World football legend.
Anytime anyone asks me where I'm from, I tell them I'm from Ashington. Of course, no one has ever heard of it. I'll always say "Do you know who Bobby and Jackie Charlton are? They are from my town". Absolute legends of Ashington, we will never see anyone like that again. RIP Bobbie, you will be missed
A beautiful unscripted genuine tribute to a `true` legend. I`m not a Man Utd fan but no matter who you support and if you are of a certain age you will no doubt feel a sense of sadness. A great player, consummate professional and huge ambassador for football who carried himself as a humble non attention seeking man. Full respect. RIP Sir Robert Charlton. 😓
I knew kenny morgans when he was alive ( one of the busby babes ) and he told me so much about how as a youngster shared digs with Sir Bobby and how kenny was first picked for the first team and he told how he was found under luggage and last one pulled out the plane. He loved Bobby. Imagine how it felt, sitting and talking to one these amazing people. Kenny died some years ago but hes now got his friend Bobby with him again. R.I.P sir Bobby and Kenny
That night in 1968 when Man Utd won the European Cup was the best match ever & I'm not a man utd fan, i watched it as a 10 year old and it was magic, but Bobby Charlton was pure magic and the greatest ever player in English football.
As a swede, I really admired Bobby Charlton as a footballer. For me, he was one of the true greats when I was a kid; him, George Best, Pele, Eusebio were in the top echelon of elite players for me …
LIVERPOOL fan absolute legend world cup winner surving Munich disaster goal every se second game for his country imagine him on old Trafford pitches today with better boots jerseys lighter the footballs he was at every utd game reminds me of our dalglish there absolute legends they really love there clubs and as a Irishman hes up there with his older brother jack who is a legend to and us irish love him to rip Bobby and he meet his world cup winner friends and older bro YNWA ❤
Manchester United has so much history and iconic characters like Sir Bobby. An iconic club with so much global support. RIP Sir Bobby, we will miss you.😢
The entire World will mourn today, not only the loss of a true legend of the game but also a great man. RIP Sir Bobby. Heartfelt condolences to all your loved ones. They must be so proud.
Never saw him play, but my old man always said he was the greatest player ever! And he always came across as a gentlemen! God bless his soul. I like the way he looked liked a grandad when he was in his 20s 😆
I'm not a United fan but Old Trafford has always been my favourite away ground, mainly due to Bobby Charlton, the legend attached to his playing career, the way he carried himself, his dedication to the club, his humility, his fantastic knowledge of the game. Sir Bobby was pure class, he must have inspired many a United player and even though Southampton is my club, I have to admit I shed a tear listening to Gary Neville's tribute. Rest in peace Sir Bobby. Your legend will continue to inspire me. ❤
Thank you sir Bobby for your life. You were the epitome of the best English sportsman who graced the world of sport. Your football career was indeed spectacular I am a manchester city fan, I saw Bobby play for united in late sixties at the time of the European Cup win he was truly a legend. He was well respected by all club fans throughout the country. Thanks for 1966 world Cup 1968 European Cup ballon dor winner fellow team mates in the Busby babes will be waiting in heaven for a kick about. What a team! Thanks for the memories sir Bobby. Your standards were unsurpassable.
Met Sir Bobby at a Salford boys' presentation dinner in the early 80's.I had an American friend who was staying with us at the time.He knew very little about "soccer" but said ,when introduced, "hey Bobby, Kenny here tells me that you are the greatest English player of all time." I naturally shrank a little but Sir Bob just said, "well, I had my moments."Typical modesty from a giant of the game.
Bobby charlton is the perfect example of what any player becoming a professional should aspire mto be, attitude and talent he had it all and was a perfect model pro, nevr let pressure of any kind get to him and only played for the love of the game and not for huge. Financial gains. Players of today should take note
A lovely tribute to a phenomenal human. As a native of the North East, I mourn his passing but have a massive back-catalogue of memories of him as a player but just as importantly, his humility and humanity- these are exemplars for all sports persons to emulate- sadly, few seem to realise these traits are a hallmark and are indelible. Gary Neville seems to have captured the essence of Sir Bobby, and his own hallmark is taking shape as a great ambassador of the game and a decent bloke after his own playing career has finished. Thanks for posting.
That story at 6:28 was just such a beautiful anecdote. Class on and off the pitch, i hope the current and future players learn about this and try their best to emulate the humility, spirit, yet professionalism that he carried
Thanks Gary Neville, you were so eloquent tonight so soon after the news, so knowlegeable about his history . Top man Gary, Sir Bobby would be proud of you ! Top Ambassador and player Sir Bobby Charlton. Manchester United !
As a Man City fan I can say that Sir Bobbys greatness transcended rivalry. From the Munich air disaster to lifting the european cup 10 years later to winning the World Cup with england. An icon of sport who will never ever be forgotten by any fans of any club
Because of my Grandad I am a United fan, the first name i became so familiar with was Sir Bobby Charlton. Grandad would tell me the story's of the Busby babes, Munich, and the club being rebuilt. Incredible person, Club Icon, RIP Sir Bobby Charlton ❤
This is news that should not just stop the football world in its tracks, it should stop the entire world in its tracks. It should take up every front page, back page of every newspaper, sports magazine, programme, the lot. That's how enormous Sir Bobby Charlton's legacy is and will continue to be.
My family are not Man Utd fans, but my dad has always said he was the best British player ever. He has always said he was much better than Best as he was the complete team player.
A football icon and a Manchester icon. I've read lots of tributes over the last couple of days and some people would say that nobody was that good, but he was. Rest easy Sir Bobby. You were the real deal. Love and condolences from a "noisy neighbour".
I wish he could've witnessed a strong and successful ManUtd team after Sir Alex Ferguson's reign. Sadly that was not the case. He left this world with gazillion memories and historical feats for the national team England and once the greatest club of all time- Manchester United.
Shame it takes the death of all time greats like Charlton and Greaves to remind people that their was football before 1992 The modern day sports tv and radio stations are obsessed with the premier league and practically ignore fans that are a bit older and remember pre 1992
As someone of a certain age Bobby Charlton is the first name that comes to mind when football is mentioned! Golf ...Jack Nicklaus, Cricket ...Don Bradman, Football ...Legend! 🙂
I got no problem with charlton being his personal choice but to say Mooro who captained him to the World Cup win , who also won 100 caps knighted posthumously and managed to win a European trophy for West Ham where every player was born within 5 miles of the club doesn’t come anywhere is an insult .. if he had class like charlton he would have said only Mooro came close ..Mooro also got a statue at Wembley too pal and largely regarded in the country as England’s greatest ever player
Great guy he won a lot but it shows how massive Man city are they ve players who have won way more than he did also the so called great 68 side did not win their league over rated side they were, Bobby was a great player his England is sadly gone may he and Jack rest in peace have a beer and be proud

a minute silence for your Dad. Must've been a great guy.

1999 will always be my favourite season as a Manchester United fan.. A legend concreted into Manchester United history forever 🙏
If you don't know, the 1999 Champions League Final date also coincided with Matt Busby's 90th birthday.
To be honest, I think it would be hard for any player to live up to this legendary career, but at least I hope players see him as a Standard and Role model, something to aim for. Manchester United, England, World football legend.
@@spacetime3 I don't think anyone in United's history will achieve what Sir Bobby did!

Well done Gary! A great impromptu tribute. What a contrast to Wayne Rooney’s comments!
What did Rooney say??

He played 3 games for my local club here in Ireland, Waterford UTD in 1976 and I saw him play, even then he was an amazing player.

great tribute from Gary Neville
From an Everton fan, Sir Bobby is the greatest ever, not because of his football skill but because of his humility.

Matt Busby, the Manchester United manager who barely survived the crash, died 29 years before Charlton himself.
England would not have won the world Cup without Sir Bobby
