I appreciate videos like this because it shows how much work is involved in doing this type of conversion and why it costs what it does, thank you. I've been thinking of having this done for a few years now - tubs are so dangerous.
Great video. Easy to follow instructions for those with basic to savvy tool skill level. I clicked on here because I want to remove my tub ( Americast) and existing tile surround and replace it with a walk in shower, 24 inch to 30 inch glass panel perpendicular to the showerhead wall, and the remaining 30 to36 Inches open. I am sure your AV course on Assembling the Renovation Is as clear as your Demo video. Therefore a good deal for many. I am in my planning stages and on a Concrete slab. I was/am toying with the idea of using some kind of masonry product to create fall to the drain. What looks like a low profile fiberglass pan of your finished product at the end of the demo video sure makes my back Feel better as well as giving me hope that I can do the project In less time. Thank you
Hi Teacher I love the way you work thru all of your projects. I wish I can hire you to do my bath remodeling now. I am in Houston, Texas and I would like to hire someone who is as good as you are to do my tub to shower conversion. Can you recommend someone who lives in my area to do my project?
When cutting drywall with my oscillating tool, I like to use a curved blade or a blade that is 2" wide. A really dull blade won't even cut the poly! By far the best tool for the job.
Don't forget to turn off your power to the water heater (if electric), because if it were to automatically switch on somehow, then without water it could burn out an element. More than likely it wouldn't switch on but better tafe than sorry. Leave off until the water has been restored and the hot water lines are running freely indicating that the tank has refilled (if it drained).
Very nice job, love the shower. Makes the shower area look larger, I plan on converting my tub/shower combo to a walk in shower, it is much safer that climbing into the shower.
You also need to be careful trying to remove one. I did mine yesterday due to a leak and it wasn't what I thought it should be. Got the drain removal tool, started turning it and it just spun and spun, never coming out. I noticed there appeared to be a nut in the middle of it with a hole in the middle. Well, come to find out it's a Geberit brand from the 80's. Remove that middle bolt and then you can pull the drain out. Could not find a replacement so had to reuse that until I can do the tub removal/walk in shower.
Hello! Thank you very much for the video! Do you think that if the house only has one bathroom, would it add value to the house by removing the tub shower and transforming it to Walk-in Shower?
I am only a buyer, and absolutely prefer a walk-in shower to a tub in a one wet room situation. Tubs popular with young romantics and families with very young children, walk-ins for every one else, and especially those with age or mobility issues.
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher LOL Sent you an email as well so you don’t get surprised or freaked out. 🤣 Maybe it went into junk. Either way glad you got it. 👍
Point of Order. Why not install shut off for entire bathroom so rest of house can go on? I have a major remodel of Bevis and Butte head do construction and why no valves on nearly any sink or such is what really fried me about this house my late sister bought. No Bleep valves so every problem means shutting of water entirely!
Never seen that ability on a remodel on a slab. Basement or raised foundation you could add or have built in that option. I’ve never seen a valve in a wall to turn off shower/tub supply. That would be very cool if prebuilt in. If you wanted to add that on a project like this, you are still turning off the water to the house. Down here in the south where the frost line is 18” wee don’t excavate an extra 6’ to pour a basement. You guys up north with a 36-48” frost line it’s a different matter. Basements are just not that common down here. Nice, but not a standard thing.
That walk-in shower with a curtain...??? I might be wrong, but water will be all over the floor every time somebody takes a shower. If it was me and I spent all that money in that kind of renovation, I wouldn't ever go with a curtain. But that's just me; and it is not my shower...Just my opinion.
I would recommend leaving that mask on after you cut the fiberglass surround at least until you get the whole thing removed. Those particles don't magically disappear when the blade stops moving!
Instant transformation! GREAT JOB Steve!!!!
Beautiful craftsmanship,
an artisan who takes pride and care in his work.
Fantastic video. Is there a video that shows this install? Thanks

At 11:20 the dust on the video made me start to sneeze!?! Haha good video, very realistic!!

Did you use the same plumbing for shower head, knob etc ???
How do ya put morter over nothing? It's half plywood and nothing but 2x4s at the drain
How much do you charge for a project like this? And I prefer to add the glass partition as well, instead of just the curtain.
Hello sir, I want to take a course and work in this field. Can I learn from you? I reside in Houston, Texas

good idea....most water heaters fill from the bottom and draw from the top..so thats a safety concern but usually it wont be a problem..
😮
thinking of doing this job an this showed me I can thanks will take your " 3 day course " Russ
Well? DID you? How'd it go?
A shower drain is 2''. How did you convert from 1 1/2 to 2''
will the shower curtain keep the floors dry or should a glass door be installed?
Very nice job, love the shower. Makes the shower area look larger, I plan on converting my tub/shower combo to a walk in shower, it is much safer that climbing into the shower.
GOOD MAN GREAT JOB !
Hey I finally signed up how do I log in and start?
Email me if you are having trouble logging in bathroomremodelingteacher@gmail.com
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacherthank you for responding Quickly I wanna start demo asap
Is there any chance you'll have time for a trailer setup video?
Thanks!
Maybe some day. Not too many opportunities for that here. Not exactly sure the main difference is in many ways…maybe the framing used?
If you're ever in Georgia I would love for you to do my tub to walk in shower renovation thanks for sharing.
Nice... Well done!
Very nice video! Man, I wish the tub drains I have encountered came out as easily as that one did. They can be obnoxious!

I would like to see the whole video
Amazing!
What if it has a top
Do you have the water off the whole time or cap the pipes in some way to not leave the house unusable for a couple days?
I had this same exact question.
Any tips for tiling a shower with a wall that curves towards you near the top?

Be careful, most places have codes that prohibit removing the only tub. Here in Illinois, code dictates at least one tub per dwelling.
nice job
NVMD I subscribed and see and your videos !! Thanks
This doesn't help me with bathtub with 2x4 under it
How much do you charge for demo of that shower stall?
Thank you 👍
Just checking if you got small package from Atl? 👀 Tracking says it was delivered on Monday.
Thanks so much 👍 was wondering who that was from 😆 look forward to trying it out 👍 thanks

Always install shutoff valves. Saves for future headaches be it you or the next guy.

A good drywall blade Dremel MM435 Drywall Jab Saw
After the tub is removed, could I turn the water to the house back on?
No. Turn it on when you’re done and nothing is exposed
Laser seems like overkill.... couldn't just use the level on 1 wall and duplicate the same level height around ?
If you've got the tools, why not use them. Spoken from a guy without that tool.
Think you may need a triggering insulation installers short 😂

Pretty sure he took his mask off to talk to the camera.. making a how to video, your watching it… “thanks for making the vid” will probably cover it
I gave you a thumbs down for not showing the steps to install new for free. With all the other tutorials that are free.
You need a helper . . . .
What??? You start a project as the title of your video says and in the beginning of it you stop and try to sell your course? WOW!
Remeber to wear safety socks for this demolition.
Thanks!
Where is the rest of the video?
