This is what is created when a child is loved. He’s so trusting and even when insulted, he laughs. He just can’t believe that they would be cruel.

@Mary - That is such a correct and powerful statement. Fractured families from divorce, infidelity and having both parents (if not divorced) working being absent from home are the results we see today. Shameful! Everyone seems deceived thinking it's Greener on the other side.

He was 21 in 1966 when the Monkees premiered, not 18...do the math...I remember it well as he was 7 years older than me. I met him when I was 17...what a blessed memory!!! He was as charming and sweet as I'd ever dreamed he'd be. Met him again 25 years later and he was such an angel...I am blessed to have conversed briefly with him twice before he left this world. I was in a school play version of this and I remember that is was Oliver that sand Where is Love .
Oddly though, Jack Wild had played Dodger both on stage in London and then in the 1968 movie while Davy was the Dodger in the New York stage version . Wild was 7 years younger Jones but died in 2006 just 6 years before Davy died in 2012.
Interesting how things happen in life, Jones was 17 and played that part of the Dodger which I guessed was about 10 year old and had a high voice . My voice cracked around 11 and it was deep where later on in the school play I was 13 and played Fagin where Ron Moody was 45 and made to look in his 60's .
I had to dirty my finger while having fingerless gloves all worn out, then have a fake beard plus put a white powder in my hair to look old .
My parts were to be among the singing in the backdrops and then front stage for a solo and a duet with the Dodger.
When your out there doing a solo with a dead silence from the crowd you have no back-up to feed you the words to the song and you better listen to the piano because this was live and we didn't have remote wifi mics . So you had to watch your volume and keep the mic on the stand an equal distance from your mouth , plus be expect to be a bit animated to act out the song.
The rest of the cast was great and it was a team effort and nobody was a super star , we did two shows with no problems even though we all had a touch of fear since the parents were the majority of the crowds.

We learned this whole show in elementary school in the early 70s. I still remember every word. And I remember Oliver singing where is love.

David was born 30 Dec, 45, auditioned for The Monkees Oct, 65... this says he was hired at 18, which would've been '63.. im 10 yr younger.. do the math, he was 19-20.
