No way, that's nuts! Been struggling using the import menu for this, samples banks are numbered and not lettered so it makes finding the right samples from a bank a pain
You can set the default MFX to any effect in the menu to trigger when it’s tapped. I suppose another tip would be that the 3 MFX buttons on the top right side can be held together to select the 3 pages of effects. Hold in MFX first + Isolator or DJ effects then press the pad number that corresponds with the effect you want to engage. I also saw a video elsewhere saying that you couldn’t bake in effects to the “synth engine” but you can with skipback. I like to set my pad colors to match Bus instead of per sample in the menu and choose red for bus one and blue for two with white being my dry signal color for easy referencing. I’d be curious to know what people use for their “master” 3/4 busses!? I’ve just been using EQ and 303 Vinyl sim as a compressor but curious how others are using their extra buses?
i like to combo 303 vinyl sim + tape sim, compressor + tape sim, lo-fi + tape sim, compressor + 303 vinyl sim and ofc any of those individually i've seen people say to put tape sim always at the end (bus 4) and not bus 3. i think that's mostly if u use it subtly ex. hiss - 1 and catch - 4
Yes organizing pads by busses is def the play, so much easier to apply effects. Once the project is "finished/ ready to master" I use bus 3 as a light compressor (settings depend on style you are going for) and 4 with an EQ cutting off below ~60 Hz (or wherever the lowest end of the mix is) and above ~10000 hz (or above wherever the hi hats are). Everything is in This helps clear up the mix a tad and focus on relevant frequencies. While making the beat though, I use all the busses in series to stack 4 effects at once and use skipback/resample to bake them into a sample pad. This does have drawbacks for sure tho, in that your effects are no longer dynamic. So when baking in effects, I try to do baseline stuff like EQ, compressor, vinyl sim or what have you before I throw on something more stylistic like JUNO Chorus or a flanger. Hope this helps someone.
just encouraging you to make the videos you wanna make after your past videos explaining that. the algorithm is so fickle. although i do admit, i only really watch your sp videos because i'm not bopping around buying new gear & settled on the sp after over almost 2 decades of going through gear. i know it sucks as a creator to get pigeon holed, though. that said! i hadn't used mine in a bit & *thank you* for reminding me about roll to play just the end of the sample you're chopping - i totally forgot about that & it was driving me crazy. i also never knew about zero cross point & just ended up using the envelope to deal with clicks - definitely using that one. thank you.
Appreciate it man! It’s a lot easier to talk about gear in detail in this format so that’s why I’m going back to this for now as there is a ton of stuff I need to get through!
It worked for me but I have noticed something, I think it only works if you do the save when the MFX is on BUS 1. I tried saving in BUS 2 and when I rebooted it hadn't saved
Thanks for the useful information. Just a quick question. In a live situation with a guitar plugged in the back input and a microphone in the front input. Can you put separate fx on both or do all the inputs share the same fx?
Thanks for tuning in! I've got a full tape with that beat included on Soundcloud if you wanted to listen 🙏 soundcloud.com/user-100688196/1-05-new-samplewav-lo-fi-beat-tape
These tipps are extraordinarily useful, especially those about skip-back functions and the remain button - thank you so much for that! BTW, the knobs are looking beautiful, never seen them before. Where did you buy them? ...thanks, Olaf
I'm not sure what the advantage of also having a midi controller is. Is it just because you want bigger pads? In that case it would work but I think money could be spend better elsewhere!
YES saving new default parameters for mfx was needed. Don’t know how much time just that will save lmao. Does it save per bus? 2 different new defaults for the same effect on the 2 buses?
I’m fairly new to the SP, but I find it so frustrating you can’t set sample length based on bars/BPM. We should be able to say ‘select x number of bars’ instead of fiddling around with the end point, this only works with quantised sounds but it would save so much time and it’s really basic to implement!
Yes you have to change the pitch settings using the value dial when you are editing a sample. You press and hold down the value dial and turn vinyl mode off
ensemble is usually for melody instruments and backing for rythm instruments. if u change speed and tempo on a sample, you can reset it back to 100% with delete also, if u shift + turn knob u can set the decimals really precisely
Does anyone know why the 5 direct FX buttons can't also function like the MFX one does? This has always puzzled me. I get that you can change direct FX through the menus, but why not just make all 6 be MFX-style?
@@fxlkpunkrapper True I guess. It's honestly my biggest gripe with this machine. I love everything about it and the and firmware updates have been so good, but this is still my biggest wish for them to upgrade 😭haha
Curious… why is SBS by default limited? Can’t find anything about sacrificing sound quality or total storage space when setting it to Long instead of leaving it on Def.
The longer time came out in a later update I think. Maybe they found a way to do it with the software, I'm not sure. I don't know why default is even an option any more really!
On earlier firmware versions it stressed the ram too much in certain applications. You would get pops that sounded similar to mismatched sample rates. The more samples, fx and sequences you have going at once the slower it gets. Everything has its limitations.
One idea would be: if you use it regularly as a tool, you don't want to listen/rewing through entire 40 seconds. Let's say you use it constantly, consciously, on purpose, as a tool to quickly create loops, new samples etc. not only saving ideas/happy accidents. Either way, they left you with a choice.

You can move samples between projects using skip back.
Nice yeah thats a cool function for it!

or you can just use the copy button and select project with knob...
oh i def gotta play with that

About 3&4 bus there is a video on the channel, if I remember he use 303 vin sim & compresor
That’s right yes I do use those and there is a video someone. It’s called something like ‘sharing my sp404mk2 sauce’ or similar

Checked the FX settings save option. It stupidly does not work with the DJ FX On setting. Great thinking Roland.

Thanks a lot! This style is a lot easier for tutorials and I prefer the sound quality. I need to invest in some kind of shotgun mic for my other style

@@spvidz Wow... wasn't aware of a chance that other manufacturer's knobs might fit at all! Seems like they are kind of standardised. THX!
I’d like to get all one colour!
IDK if you can change the skipback time in the latest firmware. I'm on 4.05 and it seems to have disappeared as an option in system settings.
This video is filmed on 4.05. Just go to the same menu option I did which is ‘MARK Function’
Nice knobs!!
Great tips!🙌
Cheers man! 👊
Very useful video!!!
Is it possible to get the delay to ring out after you've deactivated the button?
Time Ctrl Delay does this!
Most of them seem to ring out apart from SX delay which deactivates as soon as you unclick the button
Hi, great video! I’m also an Sp 404 Mk2 user, do you recommend a combo with a midi controller, like Akai Mpk mini plus or Mk3, for a Dawless setup?

@@spvidz thanks for the reply. Mm not really, mainly it’s for playing some chords in a better way, but I’n not fully convinced..
There was a button or a combination of buttons when on the chop menu that automatically found a spot with volume 0 on it, what was it? thanks
