On point. Exactly why i love my 404A, for that menu diving, tons of features, constant updates, etc... I got my maschine mk3. These sp devices are something else entirely.
I created a "studio b" area recently to give my sx and other more rarely used gear some love and to experiment with some sounds. Loving using the built in mic again to make drums.
Awesome! I've been trying to do that in my studio and I'm going to use the SX as my sampler for sampling from my turn table. Its just taking a while to get everything in place
Recording vocals on the sp404 mkII is really something special , its got that casio sk-1 deal where you have harmonies playing at different speeds which really adds a cool effect! you hear somthing that pops out of the mix and then capitalize on it intentionally and re record. its been a great idea maker and like you said a puzzle! I'm coming from cubase and was looking to get away from software, and it has been exceeding my expectations, although I will say it has taken a lot to get used to , it has been a completely different music making experience than im used to, it is my first run at portable samplers, maybe that's why i love it so much, i can literally record in a tree stand, its cool. I also like how the pads light up with whichever scale you select to play,
I love my SX, but the OG404 had the best sound imo. Sadly mine died so I'm strictly 202,303,404sx for now. Thank you for this video. The SX was and still is a beast when it first dropped.
These points are all some of my favorite aspects of the SX. Simplicity and lack of bugs are huge pros. The SX is still going strong in my music making setup. The MK2 came and went, but the SX is eternal hahaa
I totally agree with you SPVIDZ the older version is much better than the mk2 I have 202 303 and 2 Sx/a and a Dr groove 202 I want to buy another 202 and 303 in the future just to have them because I like them so much
I still got a lot of love for the MK2, I know you don't. These are just a couple of things that I would have liked to have seen on the MK2. On the whole I think the MK2 is a different beast and I've hardly touched my sx since getting it. I love all my SPs individually though, they all have something unique to offer
it’s for sure a little meh on its own. Really depends on settings and what else you use it with. The lofi on mk 2 is definitely something completely different to 1 it’s odd but can potentially do more with it
The SX simplicity wins it for me, but maybe I'm just getting too old for button combos. The MKII in a larger form factor with more dedicated buttons would be so much fun.
Try maschine 3.0. It's a bug fest, and now we have a 3.0.1 and guess what, it's still a bug fest of not working plugins (scaler 2 audio), all plugins (including UHE Diva) not scaling correctly after the monitor sleeps and wakes up, or not scaling correctly at all. If this is the standard of German quality AD 2024, I'm glad I drive a Japanese car. What they did solve though is the weird behavior of Massive X dials when using this piece of crap. Unfortunately that does not help other pieces of legacy NI software like Funk Guitar. Laugable. I prefer the SP404 Mk2 over it any time. And I'm looking at Ableton more and more. Or going entirely hardware with a X SE or my current 2500 SE.
Please make more of these videos too because I stop watching the channel now because all you talk about is the mk2 and the mk2 doesn't interest me at all

My SP404 MKII & SP404 SX are side by side in my studio. I absolutely love incorporating the two with my MicroFreak.
Nice 🔥

I still do live shows with my sx, fx pedals, and a synth. It's a lot of fun, and the simplicity keeps the show moving along
Nice. I did shows with the SX a few years back but haven't done any since getting the MK2

curious what kinda settings you're using for vocals, that sounds nice!

Would like to try the OG at some point. I've heard the compressor is one of the best sounding from the 404 range

I need to give it another blast. Its been on the sidelines since the MK2 arrived!

Crusher into lofi on the mk 2 gets pretty close to lofi button. Definitely would’ve been nice to have just a button though
I'll have to try that, thanks! I don't think the crusher is as good as it could be on the MK2 either

Would love to see Roland do a new 'studio sized' sampler again!
"But Beautiful" .... is the name of the jazz standard tune that is played by Jazz pianist - cool video
Great video 🖤
Totally agree on your point regarding testing of updates. A lot of those bugs should have not been there!
Yeah some of them seem really basic. My guess is they don't have a dedicated test team, or its very small
A mic on the MK2 would have been the absolute cherry on the cake. I always wondered why it didn’t come with it.
Yup - maybe the plan was saving it for the P6...
Maybe Roland wanted to make sure that the SX will always be special so that mic is an example. 😊
I definetly feel the last point. I also like the clunky pads haha. But of course the mk2 pads are super nice.
I wanted to talk about the fat pads and forgot! I do miss those too 🤣
I have a medieval that I love but I feel like buying one of these for cheap. The lack of memory of the medieval kills me.
No mention of the sub bass?????
I used to bang on about that in previous videos, but we have a full noise generator on the MK2 now, so thats not something I miss any more
When the mk2 came out I just brought a mpc live 2 and a mpc one instead
That's exactly why I didn't buy the mk2
I'm waiting for the mk3 because I didn't like the mk2 at all

I use ableton a lot. Its great for full beat making/arrangement, and you can use the SPs for the extra sauce as well 👍

I'm glad because I hate the mk2
