It's crazy, because the "scouts" of talent can literally tell players who are dynamic like Lamar Jackson to change positions. But Lord forbid a player sees the writing on the wall, and decides to change his position. Then all hell breaks out.

I played against Hurd in high school back in 2013. That dude really opened my eyes to what the difference was between a regular high school player and a D1 athlete. I played WR and safety and I was pretty quick. But on his first break away run it was a 40+ yard TD and made me look like I was running backwards. On his next run we ran a safety blitz and he stiff armed me into next week.

I went to the same high school as Jalen Hurd and got to watch him play back then. Hurd was an absolute beast and you immediately knew who he was when he stepped on the field. He helped carry the team to a state championship, but the coaches ran him into the ground. It's often forgotten but Jalen went both ways a good amount, so he would play safety on defense and then immediately go right back out there and be the RB on offense. Regardless of how good our QBs and WRs were, our high school coaches ran the ball about 90% of the time with the same few runs plays almost every time. They did it before Jalen and still do it now and it's led to a lot of RBs getting injured through overuse and getting banged up every week.

Go sign up then.. Education is desperate for teachers who DID NOT go into the job thinking out summers off and sitting around all day in the AC...... The job DOES NOT attract the brightest candidates.... Football coaching don't pay a lot and the hours are long... OH, and 90% of your players are clumsy with less then zero talent. @@Wheelman2004he is saying the truth though, a big problem with education is that it doesn’t attract strong candidates. An easy example to see is in math. You always read stories online about how “I always hated math but I had 1 teacher that made me actually like the class somehow”. That’s because most math teachers in North America just do not understand the underlying structures at play in math. Anyone who is worth their salt in math has more than enough skills to earn double or maybe even triple a teachers median salary. Teaching isn’t regarded as a prestigious job culturally in North America, not payed well so it doesn’t get good applicants. Across the pond in Finland however it is culturally prestigious, very competitive and hard to get into, and payed very well, and consequently they have quite literally the best teachers in the world and the best rated education in the world. So the solution is to pay teachers more, the competition will follow.

Dang I knew Butch Jones and the Tennessee staff ran him into the ground. I didn’t think about his High School experience at all. Fortunately for him the size and speed of a High School Defensive Player (especially a player in the state of Tennessee) and a D1 College Player are vastly different. I’m sure, more often than not Jalen was the person delivering the blows in high school as opposed to receiving them. Must have been a joy to watch, like a Man amongst Children. Just a shame his body couldn’t hold out for the NFL. I wanted him to make enough money to live comfortably for everything he gave to the University of Tennessee and what little our fanbase and University has given to him. JALEN GAVE EVERYTHING TO TENNESSEE and it’s just sad how it turned out and how he’s treated by our fanbase

This reminds me of the Ronald Curry story who ironically I seen a video of today. And how he was a 2 sport athlete in college and made his decision to choose just one too late & the injuries from football and basketball piled up on his body.

You are 100% my favorite sports youtuber bro. I cant believe this all started from EA NCAA FOOTBALL!!!!! Have you made a vid about that Pat White era West Virginia team that was set to go to the dance, but lost to unrakned Pitt in the last game of the season? If not, that would be dope.

That's why I hope these college athletes take full advantage of the free top notch education so that they have something to fall back on and still have a great career when football is over.

As a Tennessean I hope we remember the truth that you so eloquently laid out, and give Jalen his due every chance we get. Shame is that credit from fans doesn't pay the bills. Glad you covered him. Some of these coaches are fucking idiots. Those high-school carries followed by Butch Jones wide ranging inabilities was brutal on him. Wish you all the best Jalen, welcome you back at UT any time!

Being from a rugby country I don’t know much about football, but RB is such a gnarly position!
Guys get so busted up. Really isnt anything like it in other sports.
I really appreciate your commentaries, the avenues these kids have to go down are super rigorous - high school and college, with all the academic stuff, while coming from tough backgrounds, and having the be on your best behaviour. It’s a lot of weight for a young man to carry.
Thanks for shedding light on all that.
    Such a good channel.

I followed him at Tennessee but not at Baylor; however, videos like your original one had me hyped when my Niners drafted him (ahead of Terry McLauren)!!! I was majorly disappointed in his career, but I wish him health and good luck in his future endeavors.

Hurd was the absolute truth man. When he switched to WR I was shocked actually and that ought he hurt his chances at being a pick in the future. But hearing why he made the change I feel him.

Props to Hurd for doing what he felt was right for him and not listening to the crowd. He didn’t lose it all either, he’s still made a good chunk of cash. If he’s half as smart with finance as football, he will be ok.

Another thing to mention is that UT’s head coach at the time, Butch Jones, was notorious for not developing players, often put players in positions they weren’t comfortable in & he wasn’t good adapting to change. Back in Cincy, he tried to force JJ Watt to switch to TE. Can you imagine how much explosive & unpredictable UT’s offense could have been if he had Hurd, Kamara, their speedy receivers, & their mobile qb all on the field as legit threats? Such a disappointing what if.

Damn, this video hits flem! I never really realized the dark road he had to endure to get where he wanted to go. I never actually thought he was that good watching him at Tennessee as a bama fan. But he actually had a solid college career. I agreee maybe all those carries in HS & in college more then likely ruined his career. All those injuries caught up to him from his body breaking down. Honestly in my opinion Tennessee cosching staff failed him by not listening to his concerns & not at least TRYING to do something about it. He obviously showed he had potential as a pass catcher RB/WR. I dont understand why Tennessee never took that in consideration. But what do i know? Great video flem! Love the content bro!
