With all due respect, but Americans are very spoiled. I have heard many of us saying that this is a "penalty box" and I am like dude, go to other countries, for them this car is luxury, it gives the driver at least a middle class status.

and... 40mpg hwy? people pay huge money on hybrids (with ADMs) to get that kind of MPG, lol.

reminds me of cars in europe that aren't legal on the highway. Sometimes you need enough power to get out of the way of others. I'm super ok with cheap/simple though, don't get me wrong.

It's enough power, just not in comparison to modern times where everything is sporty. 122hp @ 2700lbs is fine for a commuter. Wasn't long ago that 122hp was status quo for practical daily commuter cars.

@@Resistculturaldecline I agree. Just, in Texas, you’d get run over on the highway. I’m leaning more towards some kind of non-hybrid. With the “hybrid tax” you won’t recuperate the extra cost to purchase a hybrids for 5-10 yrs. Unless gas goes to $5/gallon.

@steveh545 I'm in Louisiana, on the Texas border, so I'm familiar with that culture 😁. Batt powered cars, with current battery tech, is a financial wash, at best, if bought new and sold by the warranty end. The cost of battery replacement, which is inevitable in every batt powered car, will create a dead used-car resale market. Which has huge ripple effects throughout the industry.
A Chevy Volt, for example, i have one in my trade-school shop now. It's a 2015, it's been dead since 2021 with 73k miles. Car itself is in excellent condition, it was owned by aChevyy dealership and maintained there but the batt cell is dead. It's the only thing on the car that doesn't work perfectly. The car was donated to us by the dealership because it's a financial total, a write-off.
The batt replacement doesnt cost more than the used car is worth. The batt replacement costs more than the car stickered for new. Unless battery tech changes drastically, the used batt car market will ghost-town dead.
A smart person won't buy a used batt car, which in turn will make a smart person not buy a new one if they in the future won't be able to sell it.

@@Resistculturaldecline I’ve heard this before, just not as clearly explained, thanks. And this Volt which was sold as being “green” lasted 6 yrs, and now is landfill material? 🤔. Need to make the batteries easier/cheaper to swap to make these cars viable. You’re not down in LakeCharles are you? Lol.

@@steveh545 You're correct on the Volt status. The batt is now hazardous waste and will require special disposal and $$ fee.

I'm content with my base model manual w/crank windows that was $10k in 2016.
If I wanted all the electronic doodads, cvt trans and $22k sticker today I'd go with the Toyo Corolla LE. less is more.

Here in Dallas TX, new Toyota Corolla LE (gasoline and hybrid) are going for 5k over MSRP. Corollas are in very high demand and low supply. So a Corolla LE is more expensive than you think.

@@braetonwilson4296 Lucky me the Nissan putts down the road just fine. Even "cheap" cars are ridiculously expensive today. Instead of going in and negotiating how much under msrp the dealer is willing to go, you have to find a dealer that has what you want and then hope they use Vaseline when they rape you.

well i've been considering one.. i think Nissan has improved in reliability with the CVT being around for like 15 years now. Plus everyone says Toyotas are still good but not like they used to be.
I want something fuel efficient and tiny and even if its not as bulletproof this actually does that BETTER than a Corolla.
Just wish they still made the Yaris or maybe a Prius C
