Barbra Streisand had wanted Elvis for "A Star Is Born", but the Colonel nixed that idea. After seeing Kris Kristofferson play the part, I couldn't imagine Elvis playing it. Swigging away from the Jack Daniels bottle and urinating in public, as well as other bad behaviour was more Kris Kristofferson's style.

I do believe most of the stories they've shared with us are true. Hell, it 75 years later and who gives a shit. They're not going to reveal everything and they certainly will not play themselves out under any negative situation. But in those days it was so much different and there is no way in hell anyone can judge them for any of the choices they made at the time because ultimately, it was Elvis who was in control and had the power to change everything and as we know, he didn't. Remember, he died from a heart attack sitting on a toilet trying to take a shit. That's what happens when you take opiates for so long, and I'm talking about years of abuse, you get constipated. Nobody is perfect and Elvis was only human, but aside from all that, he was just one hell of an entertainer and badass and one of a kind and that's all I care about. Everything else is just superfluous bullshit. There will never be another Elvis and I thank god I was able to see him live. RIP Sir!

After reading many memoirs of family, friends, colleagues etc, he was dearly loved by family and close friends. He also had more stress in his life, he was a major super star. Like most of us, he had a temper. Angels don’t shoot up their TVs.

Saw Elvis 1973 Atlanta, front row stage level seating. The most AMAZING performer I had ever seen. Saw him 3 years later Atlanta, and my heart broke for him. Obviously very sick, slow, sweating profusely. He loyally sacrificed himself for those he loved! I have never forgotten this most beautiful man from 1973, and how far he had fallen. Truly tragic!

One of my very first memories and I remember it vividly was When Elvis Presley passed away, I was 4 years old and my Dad was sitting across from me in the living room with tears in his eyes. Its one of those moments I will never forget and it shows the effects the man had on others

On video. Years after internet came along and I hadn’t seen any Elvis footage of 1977. Then I found one of his last concerts. From 1977. I honestly didn’t recognise him. I thought this can’t be him. But it was he was sick sweating. Confused on stage and drinking a cup of Coca Cola. He looked terrible.

It's now 2023 and almost everyone has betrayed Elvis in order to make money, writing books and doing interviews about Elvis. He was betrayed by Parker because of his gambling debts and not having a passport, then Red & Sonny West and Dave Hebler wrote the book 'Elvis What Happened' that came out just prior to Elvis passing away. Elvis always had a good reputation with his fans and associates and tried to keep his personal life as private as he could so Elvis was naturally hurt and upset because of the tell all book. God Bless Him. Everyone has gotten their piece of cake and Elvis paid the price. Lisa Marie said in an interview that most of them used Elvis because of the women he attracted and because he took care of them. Elvis had to perform to keep up with his lifestyle and to pay his large payroll. The lifestyle Elvis was accustomed to was a very expensive lifestyle. We Elvis fans who miss Elvis look beyond his faults and realize Elvis was human just like us. There will never be another entertainer of his caliber and was simply the best.

I was 8 when Elvis died. I still have all my Elvis collectibles & my Elvis scrapbook with an original 8x10 given to me by mother who got it from Tom Parker. I remember the day he died. A part of the world died that day... I miss you Elvis. RIP 🙏

Agree with all you said. Colonel Parker had Elvis on autopilot ... the drugs and yes-men around him ... losing Priscilla devastated Elvis. The lack of a real challenge, like a dramatic movie role. Elvis was bored, often spending huge sums of money (compounded by Parker's gambling debts). That's a lot of baggage to carry at the same time.

Only a few did and many of them were users too and took advantage rather than looking out for him... I was never an Elvis fan as I was a child during his big fame. As a teen in the late 60s my mom and I were in the car and his song "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" came on the radio. I always liked that song, and when it ended my mom, a little surprised, said he has a really good voice. My mom lived to age 97, and for whatever reason that moment stuck in my mind as a memory of my mom and me together. If for no other reason, that makes Elvis special to me. ❤

I was only 7 yrs of age when Elvis died. I remember quite frankly hearing his death on the radio at my auntie & uncles home in Snohomish, WA. My family were fans of him & I grew up listening to his music as well as watching his films. So sad that this could have been prevented. A star was born & taken away to soon due to corruption & fame not pertained to Elvis himself. His loss of love, life & his only daughter in which he left a legacy is a tragic loss of recent times. May God have given him & his family eternal light.💖💖🙏🙏

I found this very powerful. For years I read Elvis only surrounded himself with sycophant's. So it's nice to see that Elvis did have people surrounding him that really did love him, that really did want to help him but like all addicts, Elvis was not in a place to listen. The MM, I used to think ( in the 70s) they were no good, but years later, thru the " All the Kings Men" video interviews with them, I Realized these guys Really did Love Elvis, & they Did try to get him to realize he needed to stop the drugs, but Elvis, like other addicts, did Not want to hear it. Jerry Schilling, who spoke at Lisa Marie's funeral, seems like a nice man. He'd never even held a baby until Elvis, who was so happy when he became a dad, handed Lisa Marie to him.

Elvis was born in the poor parts of Tupelo Mississippi and it was mainly African-american living there, at the place where Elvis family lived there only lived 3 more white family's, the rest was colored people, his family was dirt-poor until he became an artist after singing in a mainly colored peoples church during his childhood.
Did you know that he had several friends that where Afroamericans, one of his friends where James Brown, yes THAT James Brown (The King of Soul), another artist was B.B King, yes that B.B King...
He also was a good friend with Mohamed Ali, yes the GREATEST boxer of all time, he even had a Robe made for him, but it was to much bling on it so Ali wouldn't where it more then one time to a fight.
He really admired Martin Luther King very much, Elvis felt that all people are equal, unfortually he never got to meet him, that would have created to much problems for both of them at that time.
He had several medical problems, Glaucoma, (Insomnia) sleeping problems, irritable bowel syndrome and that will make you constipated, these are things that affected his real life and made him need medication to function.
Yes, he took medicines that today are considered to be called drugs, but at that time doctors prescribed it to him and to ordinary people, they did not know of the problems it could give people (side effects).
He never took any so-called street drugs, but unfortunately he did not realize that those medications would be a problem for him, he thought that they where ordinary medicine because his doctor prescribed them to him and to everyone else that needed it.
Many of his relativs died at a relatively young age, so even if he wouldn't have the medication, he might have died at about the same age.
He could never be alone and thus himself, at that time the word superstar did not exist, so nothing could prepare him for that kind of life.
Did you know that a big group of white people actually smashed his records and wanted to ban his music, just because they called the music he did so called N... music, that is so painfun to think that some people actually can think like that, skincolor is just color and nothing more, when will people realise that?
There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time !
He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died.
Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of Rock 'n' Roll, Country, Gospel, Rockabilly and Rhythm and Blues), if Gospel is a genre in Music Hall of fame, then he should be in there to, but no one else is in more then perhaps 2 genres.

Something else that people tend to overlook:
He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that.
Imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsinging and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure?
At the time when Elvis started, then Autotune did not exist yet and when it became availible, then he still did not use it, he did not need to, he always sang so that you could hear every word that he sang, the Fans always felt that he sang to just you !
That is what Elvis did in over 1600 concerts (during his 20 years as an artist), despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy.
He sang over 800 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples lyrics, well that is amazing in it self.
By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting !
This unfortually made him temporary blind after the shows, that is why they led him of the stage and into his car, that is something that not many people knew about Elvis.
Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right?

Elvis made a show where all the money went to build the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, he talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself, he helped by donating a big amount of money to St Jude hospital, they fight against cancer (especially children with), he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, he even gave away some houses to total strangers.
Elvis started an organization that helps people to get out of Homelessness (Presley Charitable Foundation, Presley Place), this organization helps people even now close to 50 years after he passed away.
A thing that you perhaps did not know: Elvis ALMOST NEVER did a show OUTSIDE OF USA, yes he did sing a few in Canada: 4 concerts, 2 in Toronto, 1 in Ottawa and 1 time in Vancouver (during the 50:s).
When the Aloha From Hawaii (Live in Honolulu 1973) was showed it had close to 1.5 Billion viewers from around the whole world and 3.7 billion people lived on earth at this time, so it was close to 1/3 of all of the population on earth that viewed the show, it was the first time a single artist was shown LIVE around the globe.

I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there !
You don't have a guide taking you on a tour, you can go all over yourself, but stay outside of the ropes and do not attempt to go upstairs, the outside is huge, so is the house, but you don't realise that from the front of the house.
I don't regret for a second that I was there, or that I stood at his grave site and said out loud that this is for the humanitarian Elvis/the person/the man and then I gave him a military salute, the others there just looked at me and asked if I didn't like his music.
So I told them that he was clearly one of the best singers and artists ever, but I loved his big heart more, he helped so many people without getting credit for it, he didn't want the credit of helping others, he did it out of love and respect and to me that is what true charity is all about.
This PLACE (GRACELAND) should be a protected part of music history and also American history forever, I think that people will keep coming for years and years and years to come !
Elvis did lots of things for America to, he helped in a big way to avoid getting Polio (he took the vaccine in a TV show and that made the interest for taking the vaccine to go up from 0,6 % all the way up to 80 % in 6 months), so in 6 months he got 79.4 % more of the American people take the Polio vaccine and shortly after it was eradicated from USA, he also helped in the fight to defeat Cancer by helping to build up St:Judes children cancer treatment clinic by donating a huge amount of money to them, he also helped to build the Memorial over Pearl Harbour and many other things!

I do admire Billy as Elvis’ family he was there til the very end, the way some of the guys spill all of Elvis’s dirty laundry is just incredibly sad. Elvis was suffering, addicted, lonely, and exhausted. Any man in his place would have not held up to the expectations after 20 years of nonstop adoration by the public. Nothing this man did was ever kept confidential by his closest friends. Lamar was very respected in the Elvis world and people speak highly of his character and I know Gladys trusted him but I feel like he took opportunities to speak ill of Elvis time and time again. There is truth and there is defamation of character. Maybe it was because of all the grief Elvis gave him over the years about his weight. I know Elvis put these guys through hell at times due to his Ego but all that he gave them should have been enough for them to help maintain dignity for Elvis’ daughter and for Elvis.

There have been and there are many documentaries about Elvis Presley. This one here was very interesting and a very good documentary about the late great and unfortunately very flawed Elvis Presley who was one of the greatest of the all time entertainers but after all is said and done he was just a human being and like most if not all human beings he had his flaws along with his immense talent.
Elvis Presley wasn't very flawed as you wrongly state. He was mostly too sensitive, which made him psychologically vulnerable, and too: conscientieus, achievement oriented, emphatic, generous, trusting, kind and protective. True, he was short-tempered, used too many prescription drugs, was afraid of personal confrontations and not always honest to his girlfriends, but those flaws were far supersided by his good characheristics. Elvis Presley took better care of the people around him than he did of himself. That's tragic; especially since his beloved daughter Lisa Marie was treated horribly by her narcissistic mother, a heartless golddigger, who sold the Presley-souls to the cruel Scientology Sect, that accorded Priscilla Beaulieu power in return for Presley-money.

The only thing we can take from any of this is that it's truly another tragic story. The industry is evil. He was a pure innocent country boy before he got involved with the industry. His biggest mistake was signing that dotted line with Colonel Parker. From that day forward the industry owned him and he was a pawn. Not judging him in any way as he was surely judged when he got to the other side. He had to go along to get along. I believe he ended up doing things that he might not have done had he just stayed in Memphis and married a southern country girl. What makes me really sick is that ALL the people who claimed to be his friends/family sold him out AFTER his death. Telling all the secrets that went on behind closed doors - not necessary to his legacy. I just hope all the people who sold him out (and who were also involved in some of the debauchery they accuse Elvis of) got their just rewards on the other side.

I recently read "Destined To Die Young" a book by Sally A Hodel that any Elvis fan should read. The research that went into this book tells exactly what caused his death. Quite a story...

His addiction killed him. His ma drank and had hepatitis. She stressed. Worried. Genes matter but lifestyle even more so. Addiction kills period.
I sent Sally Hoedel a very long list of inaccuracies and unproven theories in her book as have many people and she responds by calling us trolls. The woman pulled theories out of thin air. Gladys Presley never had an autopsy and died in 1958 but Sally claimed to know what killed her and interviewed the daughter of the doctor who took care of her. That's not a source, the memories of a child or claiming that genetics wiped out most of the Smiths when most of them reached old age or are still alive. I would recommend that people save their money.

Elvis was born a star, lived the life as a star, he died a star and he's etched in the walk of fame as a star and to all those alive this day and remembers EP, and who were either family, friends or fans, like me, he'll always be a star. My Mum was born in 1944 and my Dad born in 1938 was EP fans and so my siblings and I grew up on a daily dose of EP. Still remember that day he died and the whole of the family in the home was so silent apart from the crying that would come and go, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. A sad day that was. 'The King' Elvis Presly has died at the age of 42. It was on every TV channel all day and probably every day after that but that day especially and we only had 3 TV channels back then and then the following year about 7 and 1/2 months after EP died, my mother died and my dad had lost his Mum the same year, February 14th 1977. My Dad was shattered the day my Mum died, March 28th 1978. Mum was just coming up to her 34th birthday. She was with Elvis Presley and family then. EP was the man she idolised too. He is still a star in my mind.

This was a very good documentary on Elvis. You know Elvis was a lonely man. He couldn’t just walk down the street, or go to an airport, or do anything most human beings can do without being recognized. In my own humble opinion, that’s why he always had his entourage around. Of course it took an army to handle everything, but he just couldn’t go and do the things that beings could do, so sad. Being a creative person, I understand about having to do repetitive, the same Ol same Ol. I blame Parker for a lot of his problems. I’ve heard the story of the colonel’s gambling problems, many many times. I also think that he was pushed beyond his limits, the drugs didn’t help matters. Now after learning about his Mother’s health problems, dying at such a young age, then Elvis, it makes you wonder about Lisa Marie’s death at a young age. God just gave us Elvis for a little while. One of my regrets, I never got to see him live on stage. The closest thing is his Aloha from Hawaii. A least we still have his music. He’s The Only Music Icon of the 20th century. There’s been many stars, but NOBODY as BIG as Elvis. Yes, I’d say, he was born a Star ⭐️. You’re missed Elvis ❤😢
So sad he never got the chance to broaden his acting career and play more complex roles with much better storylines. He really regretted that and it was a big source of frustration and disappointment to him. He had the potential to be a great actor. 😢

Back then a lot of people had a different approach about girls dating and marrying young. My grandparents were farmers, but got married when my grandmother was 15 and grandpa was 17...and they were mature enough to work a farm and to start a family. And true, Priscilla's parents are the ones who sent her to the US to be with Elvis. I believe, in their case, that they had dollar signs in their eyes regardless of how young their daughter was.

Parker was a user. He only seem to care what would bring him the most money via Elvis. Elvis wanted a singing and acting career. I don't think he really cared about the money. It's so sad. Especially knowing how young he was and didn't live long enough to see his daughter grow up and give him grandchildren. It really is a tragic story and so unneccessary. I wish he had lived more many more years.

Those movies were not dumb. Very few are bad. I loved them and a lot of the soundtracks. I lived in a bad situation in the 60's and I loved those movies and would look forward to a new one being released. It was a bright spot in my dark life.
