Michael I so enjoyed your tour of my New Home city Roxas. The people here are just so wonderful. But just like any city if you treat people with dignity and respect and have manners the people will embrace you. But I just find this city much different than where I lived before. Much more friendly and so easy to make friends. Not many foreigners but that is ok have many Filipino friends. Rentals can only compare with Dumaguete. I had a two bedroom apartment in Duma and I now have a two bedroom apartment here in Roxas. My place is bigger and my rent is less than what I paid in Dumaguete. Also I can walk out my door and walk about 4 minutes and I am on the beach. Life is good. Keep up the great videos and thanks for showing my new home Roxas City. To me it’s paradise , just a wonderful city to live in.

@@marianeil6630 Hi I did not use any type of social media. I move to Suito Uno condo on a month to month lease. I figured out location in Roxas City and Chose BayBay beach area. I made many friends from the beach area. All my leads were from friend. They knew someone who had a rental . I must have look at 6 to 7 places till I made my decision. That was my process I hope this helps you. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Just goes to show you how the local government can make a city nice or not. Dumaguete is a 2nd class city and Roxas a third, but Roxas seems nicer even with smaller city income.

I like how you show the cities and towns. I am happy with this as I want to know about these kind of scenes and things to do in the Philippines. I live in Seychelles, sea, beaches, waterfalls, marine lives I am used too have no interest. I want to see the conviences, festivals, activities, medical and all good facilities that will make my life comfortable and enjoyable to live there at least six months of the year. The reason I choose the Philippines is that there are lots of things similar to my country just it is on a bigger scale and the people there are more friendly. Most importantly it is like 10 times cheaper than Seychelles. Seychelles is rank among the top 10 most expensive country to live

I just LOVE Dumaguete. Would never move and I've been here eight years straight. At the opening of the film on Roxas I heard the phrases "brutal traffic", "you wouldn't believe how much construction is going on here", crowds etc -- well that put me off. I am sure it's a great place - but didnt appreciate the interviewee dissing Duma and Mike happily agreeing. There aren't too many foreigners in Duma at all! There is no 'problem.' It's just fabulous, fabulous - as Mike himself said when he was here. People are totally friendly, beaches are tremendous, restaurants great and getting better all the time. The city is really going from strength to strength. I am proud of the city of gentle people Wonderful. Each to their own, I say. But I'm staying put! lol.

@@travelescapesOFFICIALmost tourists in Roxas City are the same locals who've been living or working abroad or coming from Manila (just like me). It is very common in Capiz that in every family, if not all have a parent or a relative or kin or a friend that don't have connections or a dollar that comes in there. That's why it is very common too that a lot of properties that you see there are either being taken care of by someone else, and just go home for a vacation. Just like me, it is a get away from it all, it is our little paradise. And we take pride that most still know each other. And still as pristine and peaceful as it is. Capizenos are still kind and happy. Progress is inevitable and it is just so heartwarming that the very culture where we were raised is still very evident. Once again thank you Mike for showcasing our home province in your videos. God bless you!

I have lots of questions; are the estuaries mostly mangrove? how are the mosquitoes in the city compared to other places, since there is always slow water around? From the port in Cebu you can take a two hour fast ferry to Tagbilaran, Bohol and then a taxi to the Alona Beach area on Panglao. Or stay on Bohol for a few days, rent a scooter and take a day trip to the Chocolate Hills and stop at the Tarsier Monkey Sanctuary on the was to the Hills. And there is also a nice lunch/dinner boats on the Lompoc river on Bohol...which happens to be on the way to the other two locations.
From there you can take a fast ferry to Dumaguete in about two hours...and then from there you could go to Siquijor, maybe stay in San Juan on that island, rent another scooter and hang out there for a few days. Coral Cay is decent in San Juan and on the water.
Going south of Dumaguete to Dauin or Bacong is a short distance away on a scooter also....
Just some ideas to get you started.

You're right about Dumaguete. I was there for the month of January and as an American I was treated mostly very poorly by virtually everyone I ran into from my hotel front desk clerk to the waitresses and baristas. A few service workers, once they realized I tipped well, grudgingly were at least minimally nice to me. I don't know what sort of tarnished legacy other Americans and or Westerners had brought with themselves before I got there. But I certainly felt the hostility and resentment. I'm never going back. Who needs that.

Learn the local language and dress properly. Not dressing properly is disrespectful to the locals so you can't expect respect in return. Many foreigners in Dumaguete are bums and alcoholics. By not looking like them, or engaging in culture bashing, you have a better chance. Been living here 30 years and not moving. Not saying it's the best place to live but definitely not the worst.
