Cultural identity has such an arbitrary quality to it. You could say also that you are Asian or African. Like... all the gueritos in the U.S., "wasps"... they're all ultimately African-American. Even the Mayflower peeps... Anglo, Norman, "originating" in the steppes, but before that from Asia, but coming also ultimately from Africa, and before that, a swamp. Komusta ka, mi negrito!

Throughout my life, I’ve traveled all over the world. When I was in my mid 20s, I went to the Philippines and went to Baguio city, the rice terraces, Manila, BF homes, Cebu with a Filipino friend of mine. I have never met throughout all my travels people as friendly and as embracing with genuine smiles as the Filipino people.

I was born and raised in Baguio. When Camp John Hay was an American R&R base our family had a pass to enter and that's where I learned about burgers, fries, milk shake, and 5 cents scotch whiskey. When I was a teen in the middle 1950s Baguio then was in its splendor and considered one of the best places in southeast Asia. I went to Manila for college then to the States in 1966. Sad to say Baguio today is not the same as I know. There is overcrowding and overbuilding. A beautiful place marred by progress without planning.

I live in La Union and go up the mountain at least once a month, especially to cool off when the beaches are too hot. I was getting ready to fly back to California and needed something warmer. I found a hoodie that said Baguio, sweaters, shirts, and other touristy stuff at Mines View. 2XL and 3XL. Yes, Baguio is a tourist destination but it is also a university town because of the several renowned universities located there.

wow, what a beautiful place with nice weather in the middle of the Philippines. Seems like a good place for an expat age 74 to move to and enjoy the local atmosphere. I'm starting my venture in the Philippines in Cebu in order to get acclimated to the weather there. eventually, I'd like to move to a cooler area and just explore what that area has to offer. From what I saw on your video, you just scratched the surface (I understand you only had a few days). where in Baguio is a good condo with reasonable prices fully furnished for an old geezer like me to move to. I'd like to be close to the market area, but also in a nice peaceful area with nice restaurants, entertainment, and parks. I'm a people watcher, I enjoy watching people having fun and I like meeting people. I'm a bit shy, but I love talking to people, even someone I don't know.

I'm Filipino, and I would recommend Baguio for elderly expats, especially those from North America. Weather is more appealing to people from cold climates. Food such as veggies and fruits are cheap as Baguio is near the mountain farms. Coffee is good and cheap too.
The locals of Baguio (and the Cordillera region) are the Igorots and they are good in English and many of them, especially the old timers, are fond of Americans as there were many Americans in Baguio during the US colonization of the Philippines.
If you would live in the non-tourist areas of Baguio, where there are less people from other parts of the country, you would find it more peaceful as Igorots are more reserved and serious people. They basically keep to themselves and mind their own business. They are more concerned with their work.
I highly recommend Baguio for you. It's also my dream retirement place and I am from Metro Manila.

Baguio is one of the best places in the Philippines. The hotel you stayed in, though, is the same one I stayed in in 2017, Golden Pine Hotel. Did you have a great stay? When I stayed there in 2017, it sucked. The hallways were always dark and creepy. My room was so dated and the bathroom lacked lighting. The sink was clogged. Add to that, the people at the front desk were either unfriendly or weird. My first night in Baguio, I went out into town and past midnight I got a call from an unknown number which I didnt answer. It kinda creeped me out. The day I was to leave, I got a text from the front desk reminding me of my check out time, and I realized it was the same number that called me the first night. When I told this to the guy at the front desk, he just laughed but didnt explain to me why someone from front desk was calling me past midnight. Weird. I wont stay at that hotel again. Lots of newer and better hotels in Baguio.

Robotic servers bring you food and drink. Cucumber lemonade is awsome. American splitting time there and the US. This is a magical city and I believe it is because of the people. Never met a nicer, kinder, gentle people then Luzon and Benguet. Bagio, LA Trinidad, Tomay, Acop, Sablan. Amazing family values and Igorot people are shy and conservative. Seems like a survivable place in the PH for someone who detests heat. The combination of a clean city without trikes and a university town is very appealing. I’ve watched this and you’re first video of Baguio. And it seems, you missed going to tourist areas, and just stayed in the city center. Souvenir shops with clothes, wood crafts, hand crafted accessories, magnets, key chains, are all available there. You could’ve gone to Wright Park (with the Mansion), Botanical Garden, Mines View Park (and Good Shepherd), Camp John Hay, Strawberry Farm, PMA, Tam-Awan village (and the Igorot Stone Kingdom), etc. Aside from this, people go to Baguio to try famous restaurants and bars. Those make Baguio popular, not just the weather.

with baguio's size which is small, it has 4 major hospitals. 1 is public which is the baguio general hospital and one of the biggest public hospitals in the philippines, the other 3 are private of which 2 of those cater to rich people, comparable to st lukes in makati thats why not only baguio is a tourist city but its also the medical center in northern luzon. nearby baguio which is La trinidad, it has 2 hospitals as well so it's not a problem if there are some medical emergencies you might encounter while living here in Baguio.

Nice content. The closed road is Session Rd. It is closed for cars on Sundays so people can have fun in that area. It started during the pandemic.

We used to spend summers in La Union by the beach when we were kids, and on the weekends, we would go to Baguio just to cool down, ride ponies, take a boat ride, eat at Cafe by the Ruins and buy Good Sheperd ube jams, some strawberry jams and peanut brittle. Great childhood memories. I heard it's gotten so crowded, but I'd love to come back one day.

I would check a few of the larger hotels that cater to foreign travelers. They probably have gift shops and most likely western sizes. You will pay more but you’ll find what you are looking for.

I suggest that you also visit Sagada, it's cooler than Baguio, although it's not a city. It's also a tourist spot. A 150 kilometer from Baguio. Some Canadians say it's little Toronto..though it's a municipality

You can easily find clothing with Baguio lettering and strawberries at the tourist sites like Mines View, Wright Park and Botanical Garden.
You find them too at some bus stations maybe?
Strawberries in Baguio grow in La Trinidad.

You need to go to a tailor who can make you a jacket and some sweaters. I’m sure there’s some there in Baguio. All you need to do is ask where their shops are.

Hi Bro. Those sweaters and hoodies you’re looking for are sold in tourist areas like Mines View Park, Botanical Garden, Wright Park, etc. In downtown, in the Maharlika Complex, they’re selling too, from wood crafts for souvenirs to traditional clothing, and modern shirts and hoodies with Baguio Logo. In SM Baguio, there are souvenir shops in the lower ground.

You might be able to find a good deal on the hoodie your looking for at 2nd Floor Hangar Market. You were pretty near when you spoke with the locals who called you over. Also near those carrot washing vendors. There's an entrance near those carrots and near the coffee bean shop. I grew up in that market. Maharlika is also an option.

Probably the city I’d want retire to. Zamboanga, Cebu, Angeles City all too hot, too noisy. Air quality is terrible in Angeles.
