    Should do a top 7 affordable, without a tower. Was super excited to get into this hobby until I realized only the people with powerful Amps and towers are reaching anyone for a rag chew.

      I would have to disagree with that. What band are you on? 100w on 40m will get you ragchewing all day!

      I run a 60w mobile rig in my vehicle and a hamstick on the fender. If I hear you I can talk to you. Full stop. No amp, no tower, no problem. Total cost for the rig was about $350.

      Your idea for a Top 7 Affordable antennas is good, but the other commentors here are correct - you don't need an amp and tower to talk around the world.

    I think the “without a tower” piece is the most intriguing. I really don’t want to put up a giant tower…. I’ve learned that I don’t need to by experimenting, but the no tower limitation is a fun thing to work around.

    Love my Shark Hamsticks. I use two per band with a dual mount for a horizontal dipole, then raise it into the air with a tripod/mast. I have made contacts as far away as Spain on 20m doing it that way.

    I didn't buy them from Amazon but I use 2 102 inch whips in dipole configuration and with my MFJ 939K tuner I can operate 10-40m no problem bought both whips and an MFJ mount to use them from R&L Electronics and have been using this set up for about 10 years now and while it's not the greatest I can operate even in the cold snowy Wisconsin winters without having to go outside and change antennas in order to switch bands

      @@kingdick4508 thanks I originally bought the mount for hamsticks but after a winter of having to go out and change the antennas out each time I wanted to change bands I was looking for something I didn't need to swap out winters get mighty cold here in Wisconsin and when you add snow to the mix it's even worse but I'm still looking for something that I can get 75-80m in addition abd 6m would be nice but not necessary to my operation

    Aloha Jason,
    I was just looking at that first antenna yesterday on eBay, about the same price. I like eBay better than Amazon because they don’t wait a month before thinking about shipping your item from their warehouses but they are getting ready to build a warehouse near the Honolulu(HNL) airport soon. That five piece hamsticks, I bought those about 4 years ago for half that price and they do work well.
    A big Mahalo to you for putting out this video, just missed the Live Stream but that’s ok, great video, I fully support this channel. Todd WH6DWF 🇺🇸Semper Fi🇺🇸

      I've ordered things from eBay that were shipped from Asia somewhere and took several weeks before I received it, so it really depends on who you are ordering from. With Amazon Prime you can get next day or 2 day shipping but it also depends on your area. When I'm in Galveston, the shipping options are more limited than at home.

    Hi Jason,
    The Teyleten Robot Portable No Tune End Fed Half Wave Antenna is a cheap knock off of the QRPGuys Kit. Personally I have tried both of these side by side using the same element and Coax just swapping the Transformer over. The QRPGuys Kit is well worth the few extra dollars to get the Genuine item. I found the Teyleten had very unstable SWR, it also had noticeably higher QRM. I think for one the Toriod on the Teyleten is not the correct Mix and/or is just very much lower quality.

    I have a about 15 yards of space in my townhouse rental. Within that space I have at least 20 trees with the highest height being about 70 ft. What permanent antenna can you recommend for my IC-7300 and for the space that I have? Also the 20 yard space that I mentioned is a common high traffic area where residents walk. No room for radials either.

    Hey Jason, unrelated question. How does the Wouxun KG-UV9PX compare with a Yaesu HAM HT? I'm such a new tech I don't know what I would be giving up if I got the Wouxun.

    • @HamRadio2

      Depending on which Yaesu you're referring to, it might have lots more features like APRS and Bluetooth. The Yaesu is also going to have better front end filtering, and less spurious emissions. But for the price, the Wouxun is a great radio too.

  • @NickFrom1228
    @NickFrom1228 Год назад

    Since the end fed antennas need to have at least one end in the air, do you have recommendations on lightweight yet cost effective ways to suspend the antenna? the natural inclination is to pull out tent poles but I suspect the fact they are metal may mess with the antenna. Thoughts?

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  Год назад +1

      Towers are metal and get antennas mounted to them all the time. It isn't that big of an issue. But I use the Spiderbeam fiberglass masts and they work great. I think they're around $70-$80, depending on the height, but you can search Amazon or eBay for "fiberglass pushup pole" and likely find something in your price range

      You can get 20-24 foot carbon fiber crappie poles from Amazon or eBay that work just fine and usually < $40. I put 3 loops of 550 cord just below the top of my base section and use cheap light weight carabiners with more 550 cord as guy lines to get my EFHW up in the air. They are light to transport and work great when you don't have trees available in the high desert to hang an antenna.

    • @loraz0
      @loraz0 Год назад

      I use carbon fiber or fiberglass poles. For an end fed sloper, carbon fiber works fine. A 7-10m pole will pack light. I use pieces of 11/16" solid fiberglass rods as support for the poles. A metal stake that will fit inside the pole will work as well. Drive a 24" stake in the ground, extend the pole with antenna wire attached, take off the bottom cal and slide the pole over the stake. Take it off the stake and replace the bottom cap before collapsing the pole.
      Use a 10m fiberglass pole for vertical antennas, they are non conductive and work much better.

      @NickFrom1228 Год назад

      @@loraz0 Thanks guys. I'll check out these options. I plan to be where there are mostly rocks and no trees on some outings. Hope I can find somewhere good to drive a stake in. Some of these places are rock, more rock and end with rock🙂
