I was hitting a hilltop repeater 43 miles away in very hilly terrain with the included 771-style antenna!! I got 2 antennas, 2 batteries, and a mic for ~$75.. I love it!!
Running a GADS set up. 8' ground rod and tunes up great with my AH-4. From DM13, north to Canada and out to the Midwest every day. With some bands open, out to HI and Asia all while keeping the HOA happy.
I really like the indexed video timeline.. helps me scan to the meat of the presentation so I can get in, get out and back on the air, or the rest of my day for that matter.
Worst case for coax 1/4 feed line (any kind) is an impedance inverter. Don't use 1/4 or odd multiple of 1/4 for feeder unless impedance inversion is the objective. To alter the impedance the least, 1/2w or multiple of 1/2. Example 125ft dublet high imp on 40m, the odd multiple of 1/4 feeder inverts that to a lower imp condition at tuner.
The trademark Jubilee goes back to 1921 when the worm drive hose clip was invented and patented by Commander Lumley Robinson. Lumley had spent time in the British Navy and during his time there realised a new way to attach a hose to a pipe was needed. Lumley founded the business L Robinson and Company (parent company of Jubilee Clips Ltd), which still operates today from a base in Gillingham, Kent.

Nonresonant open wire / twin-lead fed balanced dublet . can work end to end. Mine is 284 ft (feeder ~ 1/4@75m ) Works everywhere. Avoid imp below 50 @ tuner. T matches are not good for step down. Avoid too-high impedance that can exceed voltage of variable-caps or insulation of balun. . Between those limits it works.

Hello Jason, and viewers. I just subbed & thumbs upped. I'm new to this. But I'm a vintage test gear nut (new hobby at 57). I live in a 3rd storey apt. With windows facing west. SLC UT, if it matters. I have a 1954 NC300 receiver & a Johnson Messenger 4230. Both seem to work. I have no antenna, no experience, not much knowledge. What antenna scenario can you recommend. I'm thinking two 10' x 3/4" sections of pvc (easy and quick to disassemble/retract when not in use, and avoid housing mngt issues.) Horizontally cantilevered out the window. No clue about the correct/ideal wire method. Any advice for an old dog gnawing on a new trick bone would be greatly appreciated.

Wow. I just couldn't stand to watch the whole video. I'm an Advanced Class Ham and also hold a Commercial Radiotelephone license. I'm a long-time prepper and have a radio Go Bag(Backpack). The main thing in the go bag is an ICOM 718 that is wide open and has an LDG auto-tuner mounted to the top. The go bag has about 25 feet of RG8 Coax and two 100 foot spools of wire and a SO239 home made rig for connecting the wire to create an emergency 1/2 wave Dipole. The bag also has a ton of test equipment and connector adaptors. SWR/Power meter, Antenna analyzer, Soldering iron and solder, Multimeter, etc. blah, blah blah and so on. It also has a fully programmed BaoFeng 8 watt UV5R dual band Handi-Talkie with the long rubber duck antenna and extra rechargeable oversize battery pack. What? No power supply. Nope. Where would you find 120 volts to plug it in to get the 13.8 volts needed for the HF rig? Finding an abandoned car with a 12 volt battery is a lot easier than lugging around a heavy power supply along with all the super heavy equipment that's already taking up space in the Radio Go Bag. I don't want to hear any negative feedback about.... But, But, But, what about Baluns and Ladder Line? Baluns work but they cause massive power loses in trying to get a decent match and Ladder line, while its great for home use when it's not raining or covered in snow or ice is next to worthless when trying to cut it to the exact length it's going to need to make some POS off center fed garbage work properly out in the woods. As to totally Home installations, you can do a superb job of setting up a really good station with all the stuff y'all mentioned. My Home radio is an ICOM 7300 w/LDG antenna tuner, and my go to Antennas for Home use are an antenna switch with a 160 meter Dipole, 80 meter vertical Hamstick, 40 meter vertical Hamstick that really sucks, and a 10 meter vertical Hamstick. 90% of my transmitting is on the 160 meter and the 80 meter antennas. What most hams don't understand about why antenna tuners work so well is they think, "You don't have a resonant antenna". That's true but when you tune using an auto-tuner you end up with a resonant circuit and that's what the radio wants to see.
all these ground mounted verticals for HF all rely on ground radials... what IF you cant put down Ground Radials??? no option for towers or trees for dipoles
Keith, every antenna is a compromise in one way or another. If your goal was lots of bands to fit in a space-constrained area with a willingness to trade off some performance especially on the low bands, it should suit you well.
Does anyone know if someone has attempted a DX Commander installation on a rooftop, without radials/counterpoises? I love the antenna, but only have a rooftop available, which gives me no place to mount radials....of any useful length. Thanks. 73 DE W1NLJ
I'm afraid that will not work - the radials are the "other half" of the antenna - that is how a ground mounted vertical works. Think of it like a dipole with only one half vertical - the other half is the radials, the DXC is a bit like a fan dipole on its side.

Try a magloop antenna. I know several guys in apartments that use them with great success.

Yes, mag loop is a great option. And not all verticals require ground radials either.
That was the route i was going, but current state of economy has put it on HOLD. Ciro Mazzoni Midi Magnetic Loop is the route I will eventually go.

I inherited a 20 foot fiberglass antenna that was used on a hospital system. How can I find what frequency it was designed for?
Two choices...UHF or VHF.
Collinear design, just try both high band and UHF, see what works best.

I have a Cha End Fed 1/2 wave 8010 which has been said covers all bands no tuner. Yea- NOT. I can't get anyone anywhere anytime.
