None of them scare me because I have autism and I know this stuff isn't real. But Hellfire was a dark song because now that I'm an adult The Hunchback Of Notre Dame to me was more of an adult animated film than Disney's other films
"Be Prepared" is a song about carrying out a coup d'état, taking power, killing your brother, blaming the heir for it, expelling him, bringing chaos to a kingdom. Masterpiece of a song
Fun fact: Jeremy Irons doesn't sing the whole song. His voice cracks, and Jim Cummings takes over. Also, what I didn't realize when I saw The Lion King as a kid and watched the Be Prepared song is that when the hyenas marched past Scar, it was like the Nazis marching past Hitler.
While I would argue Hellfire is darker for fact of the self-righteousness of the song and pure denial going on in it, I also think Be Prepared not being in the top three is an injustice.
The fact that a lot of the songs on this list are from Disney movies is not too surprising. Since as these songs prove, That not every song Disney makes is all happiness, Sunshine and rainbows. In fact when it comes to the creepy and dark side of Disney, songs like "The Headless Horseman" and "Trust In Me" are some of my all time favorites! Fun fact: Floyd Norman one of Disney's main animators once revealed that it was the idea of Walt Disney himself to have the song "Trust In Me" added to "The Jungle Book" As for other songs like "The Plagues" it's one of my favorite DreamWorks songs, Especially because it's a darker retelling of a part of Exodus.
"Toxic love" from Ferngully was and still is one of the best songs , Tim Curry was absolutely brilliant singing this, i also Love the plagues from The prince of Egypt, its so dark but powerful at the same time
“The Plagues” is still my favorite song from the Prince of Egypt. The song symbolizes the Plague perfectly and how brutal each one was. I still get chills when hearing it again just as I did as a kid.
Well, luckily for myself I didn’t watch this movie as a young kid. Truth be told I first watched it as an adult after watching part of it at the child care center where I currently work. So it didn’t really give me “chills”.
I don't see the song being creepy, but like a pure awesome epicness, all the songs for Prince Of Egypt truly fit perfectly of telling the bible story of Moses.
O yeah. Plus, I agree with Emily about this song going over our heads as kids but not adults. I so want to punch Frollo. Esmeralda is not a witch. I enjoy the choir.
We're staging "Beauty and the Beast" for our annual musical later on this year, and "The Mob Song" is our favourite number to perform. It's scary how fear can instantly make people jump on the mob bandwagon, and it always gives me chills to act it out.
I cant stop feeling goosebumps with The Plagues and Deliver Us from the Prince of Egypt. It's just amazingly captivating. Same with the final choir section of the Rasputin song (once upon a December will always be a goosbump maker for eternity) and Im glad you recalled Zyra's Lullaby. It was my favourite villain song till Friends on the Other Side appeared
Here’s a few others: .Good Ship Misery- The Pebble and the Penguin .Soon You’ll Come Home-All Dogs Go to Heaven .Open Up Your Eyes-My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) .Get Lucky-A Chipmunk Adventure .Frozen Heart-Frozen .Money Is Such a Beautiful Thing-Tom and Jerry the Movie (1993)
Am I the only one who always thought My Lullaby was way creepier than Be Prepared? Also speaking of dark songs from The Prince of Egypt, Playing With The Big Boys is up there too.
With the collective love for the late, great Robin Williams from the staff (as our own), surprised ‘Batty Rap’ from Ferngully didn’t at least get a mention. It’s literally about humans’ penchant for experimentation on animals, the very thing Batty was subject to and escaped from. An act that, thankfully, has fallen out of favor these past few years.
I don't consider "The Plagues" from Prince Of Egypt, "In The Dark Of The Night" from Anastasia, and even "Hellfire" from The Hunchback being dark creepy songs, but more pure epic songs even listen too from childhood!
I was hoping "Worthless" from "The Brave Little Toaster" would be on this list. I remember a few times when I watched the video for the song on RUclips, chills went up my spine. The songs that were on this list that I like were "Remains of the Day," "How Bad Can I Be?" "Pink Elephants on Parade," "The Mob Song," (though I hate that movie of "Beauty and the Beast"), "Be Prepared," and "This Is Halloween." By the way MsMojo, at 19:20, I felt that you were making a reference to Star Wars when you said: "The trauma is strong with this one," similar to how, I think it was Darth Vader, said this: "The force is strong with this one."
“My own Home” from the Jungle Book was always so beautifully haunting. “Who will Rescue Me” from the Rescuers is another. “The Bells of Notre Dame” is just gorgeous as both narrative device and standalone song. I think Hunchback, as a whole, is the most mature Disney kids’ movie.
This is a great list! I feel that “The Marketplace” from “Joseph: King of Dreams” would fit in this list as well! But, I enjoy how thought-provoking this list is!
Sleeping Beauty song is one of the most beautiful animation movie song I have ever heard. I have heard many beautiful Disney/animated songs but that one is on a whole other level. It’s calming, graceful, beautiful and just down right gorgeous. And that whole scene is visually stunning and beautiful as well
As someone that grew up watching The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride on repeat, I absolutely love Zira's Lullaby for just how subtle it sounds at first before eventually parting the veil and revealing Zira's true plans/intentions as obvious as a blood red sky, but hey... It is meant to be his 'lullaby' for Kuvo
I love the movie in general but I've always found the song "This Is Halloween" to be repetitive and annoying. How many times is it really necessary to use the word "Halloween"? Actual line: "This is Halloween...This is Halloween...Halloween Halloween Halloween Halloween"
These kids songs are edgy enough to be outside the box as opposed to the feel-good family songs we hear every single day because they're "safe." I love the edginess because it makes these songs dramatic and much exciting for a kids movie.
Oh, come on! "Sleeping Beauty" is such a precious lullaby! And besides, "Heffalumps and Woozles" is so hilarious! And Ariel's vocalizing when she gives up her voice is so sweet!
Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame": So dark, that if you remove the gargoyles, you'd probably get the first film from Walt Disney Feature Animation to get a PG-13, and maybe would most likely end up released under the Touchstone Pictures label (or it would at least be the second Disney Animated Canon film to get a PG, after "The Black Cauldron").
Trust in Me and In the Dark of the Night. Those are great songs to entertain younger family members when it comes to using them when telling stories. Scary songs for sure but it's important to never hold back on villain songs.
I’m surprised the Other Father’s Song from Coraline isn’t here. I get that on the surface it’s a fun upbeat song, but it’s also a very subtle song about how a child is being watched by monsters and lead into a trap.
The worst part is that there were multiple people in history who might as well be Judge Claude Frollo. Such as Heinrich Kramer from Germany, Tomás de Torquemada from Spain, and Geoffroy d'Ablis from France.
@@Jesus-is-love4ever I enjoy the music. Hans Zimmer is becoming my favorite film composer since John Williams has retired. The choir on both Deliver Us and the Plagues are awesome.

@@KARDisney yeah, I read that somewhere. I also mentioned that too. And in fact, I listened to the whole song, and I can hear the difference between Jeremy Irons and Jim Cummings.
@@KARDisneyJim Cummings is so underrated, he is in most Disney movies 😂 Hes Tigger, Ray in Princess and the Frog, the flamingo in Gnomio & Juliet. Robotnik, Monteray Jack, Cheshire Cat, the list goes on and on ❤ I think hes also one of the Hyenas in Lion King too
Given that the Remains of the Day is a catchy song in Corpse Bride but I feel bad for Emily because she was was fooled by a man who just wanted her fortune Sally’s song is a beautiful song, yet she had a vision that Jack’s Christmas will be ruined One of Us is from The Lion King 2 is a song that I believe that we can relate to
Deception is that ish! 🔥 I love that absolutely. And The Plagues, definitely gives me chills, even as an adult, especially since it's based on real life
I know Disney didn't write it, seeing as it's a piece of classical music, but even as an adult "Night on Bald Mountain" STILL gives me the creeps and shivers.
Last thing, for the song Deliver Us, Moses's mother was one smart woman. Yesh, I mean that shouldn't be because she didn't know if Moses would have survived when he went into the river, but she did saved him.
What's hilarious is, in the actual story, Pharao's daughter (the one who actually found Moses) ends up hiring Moses' mother to take care of him! Imagine being paid to care for your own kid! (Exodus 2:5-10)
He is the epitome of the "Power Corrupts" trope, and being so caught up in his superiority complex that he blames the Devil for his impulses while still claiming to be a pious man, instead of admitting his selfishness. Not to mention, threatening to destroy all those who will not align to his beliefs or desires.
Some of these songs are absolutely a nightmare. However, I think Mirabel's song is not creepy or dark but feels desperate (just my opinion!). Also, I have never found the song: "Shiny" so creepy, but maybe because Tamatoa hasn't ever scared me. And I've never heard that song called "Toxic love", but it has definitely unsettled me.
My number one pick is Under Our Spell from Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks. The Dazzlings might be fashionable but their enchanting voices are haunting to have you under a trance
Honorable Mention: *Biggering - The Lorax (2012) -This song was only released on the official soundtrack along with other songs that didn't quite make the cut. And in my opinion, it does a better job than "How Bad Can I Be?" at getting it's point across and staying true to Dr. Seuss's story and message. From these unreleased songs and some early concept artwork, the original story for the film started off as something different. Something darker. The Onceler in the original story for the film had a lot more agency. He wasn't pressured by his family to be successful, he wanted success on his own, and he was good at it. He never tried to hurt anything from the start, but at some point, it stopped simply being about getting by in life or doing something that he loved, it became about getting as big as possible. Any other person or song would blame greed, innocuous carelessness, or even other people for how things turned out. But no, this song goes deeper, to the source: Pride. That's why the Onceler continues to do what he does. He's so caught up in himself that he doesn't stop. He doesn't acknowledge the harm he's caused because he sees himself as above all the people he's hurting, they don't matter. But to him, HE matters because he's successful and he's... him. As the old saying goes: "Wither by suffering or by my self worth, I am me. Therefore, I deserve this thing." -A typical prideful mindset And yet, the song doesn't portray the Onceler as a one-dimensional villain. You see the humanity in his decisions and the lyrics, and it's easy to see yourself falling into his mindset. We can blame evil corporations and bad eggs in certain projects for doing harmful things, but it never starts out that way. Once you put yourself through their same journey to get to a successful spot, you barely notice all the internal justifications to keep doing the harmful things that you do. Between the over-the-top rock opera of the song, it still manages to respect the Onceler with the dignity he and the story deserves by getting to the root of the problem: The human condition. There's a reason why pride is the original sin AND the cause of all the other sins after all. I cannot believe this song was cut in favor of what we actually got. It goes for the throat. Showing that if anyone takes more than what they need, and justifies unspeakable acts while giving nothing back, this could be you. Given the time, ANYONE has the potential to become the Onceler, and do terrible things.
"Hellfire" is definitely still creepy though Johnathan Young's cover is AMAZING. It's creepier when you realize that the figure in red robes are saying in Latin "It is your fault" when Frollo sings that it's not his fault. Oh yeah and the whole lust or die theme too.
That song Heffalumps and Woozles from Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day doesn’t frighten me at all this reminds me of a yoga workout class I visualize.
Well I’m only in about 13-14 minutes into the video and I’ve already been jamming out the whole video. No matter how evil, twisted, mean, greedy, selfish or creepy these songs are they are all awesome and catchy 😂
The Prince of Egypt is probably the best long cartoon movie of all time. My Mother and I saw it in the theater when it first came out and she was crying at the end of the first song. I was crying by the middle of the movie. We're Catholics. I was about eight at the time. Very well done. Amazing movie. Everyone should watch it!
#30: “The Headless Horseman” (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad) #29: “Waiting on a Miracle” (Encanto) #28: “Prince Ali (Reprise)” (Aladdin) #27: “Trust in Me” (The Jungle Book) #26: “The Next Right Thing” (Frozen II) #25: “Les Poissons” (The Little Mermaid) #24: “Remains of the Day” (Corpse Day) #23: “Sally’s Song” (The Nightmare Before Christmas) #22: “One of Us” (The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride) #21: “Worthless” (The Brave Little Toaster) #20: “Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee” (Pinocchio) #19: “How Bad Can I Be?” (The Lorax) #18: “Shiny” (Moana) #17: “Mad Madam Mim” (The Sword in the Stone) #16: “The Siamese Cat Song” (Lady and the Tramp) #15: “Sleeping Beauty” (Sleeping Beauty) #14: “Heffalumps and Woozles” (Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day) #13: “Pink Elephants on Parade” (Dumbo) #12: “Mother Knows Best” (Tangled) #11: “My Lullaby” (The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride) #10: “Friends on the Other Side” (The Princess and the Frog) #9: “Toxic Love” (FernGully: The Last Rainforest) #8: “The Mob Song” (Beauty and the Beast) #7: “Savages” (Pocahontas) #6: “Be Prepared” (The Lion King) #5: “In the Dark of the Night” (Anastasia) #4: “Poor Unfortunate Souls” (The Little Mermaid) #3: “This Is Halloween” (The Nightmare Before Christmas) #2: “The Plagues” (The Prince of Egypt) #1: “Hellfire” (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
For the song the Plagues, that is Ralph Fiense (not sure on the spelling of his last name) singing. Val Killmer was the voice for Moses, but there was someone else who did the singing voice. Plus, the choir is awesome in this song.
Honestly, I can't help feeling "Playing With the Big Boys" from Prince of Egypt makes a great follow up to Falicier's "Friends on the Otherside". All in all, however, I can't argue with your list.
I find it funny that Rasputin sings about how ‘one little girl got away’ when there’s still her Grandmama to take care of. He’s just dead set on killing Anastasia specifically.
The song "The next right thing" describes what people with clincal depression feel, what they lost... their happiness and hope... And not everyone manages to get out of that hole... I am happy I did... after 3 years of therapy. "Waiting on a miracle" also goes sooo deep when you live in such a family
Fun fact about "Be Prepared": Jeremy Irons got sick and couldn't record the second half of the song, so Jim Cummings, the voice of Ed the hyena, sang it for him. Jim said this at a comic con panel I saw and even sang some for us.
Pink Elephants always scared me, the animation was just so creepy and out of nowhere I still find it hard to look at sometimes...so many of these songs are actual bangers though
I think I was 4 or 5 when I saw Dumbo the first time. I've never been frightened by the Pink Elephant's song; perhaps because I focused on the colors and the shapes and the song itself.
Honestly, the one that I find the creepiest wasn't in this video, but it's "Love is an Open Door" from Frozen. Mostly because Prince Hans is actually manipulating Anna the entire time and no one had any idea till he left her to die at the end
The only song that genuinely still unsettles me to this day is Pink Elephants on Parade. I had nightmares as a kid for weeks thinking about the imagery.
#26 still kills me. It's the last movie I saw with my late niece. The children I nanny for call "The Prince of Egypt" "Moses" and ask me to play the soundtrack(Specifically Playing With The Big Boys and The Plagues) whenever we go somewhere, even just to the store.
Pretty much everything in The Brave Little Toaster scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I had nightmares for a few weeks because of that movie and those songs.

Also, I have never found the song: "Shiny" so creepy, but maybe because Tamatoa hasn't ever scared me. And I've never heard that song called "Toxic love", but it has definitely unsettled me.
I agree with Waiting on A Miracle. It's really emotional and deep and defined to not be creepy at all.
IMO, "Shiny" is the worst and most useless song in the whole movie. I could have done without it.
I still wish we got to see Jafar's version of Prince Ali in the live action Aladdin
that’s the only thing I didn’t like about the live action Aladdin movie
My number one pick is Under Our Spell from Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks. The Dazzlings might be fashionable but their enchanting voices are haunting to have you under a trance
That and Unleash the Magic
Me: “What? What’s darker than ‘The Plagues’?”
*sees “Hellfire”*
Me: “Ah, yep, there it is.”
Honorable Mention:
*Biggering - The Lorax (2012)
-This song was only released on the official soundtrack along with other songs that didn't quite make the cut.
But to him, HE matters because he's successful and he's... him. As the old saying goes:
"Wither by suffering or by my self worth, I am me. Therefore, I deserve this thing."
-A typical prideful mindset
And yet, the song doesn't portray the Onceler as a one-dimensional villain.
The brave little toasters 🤩
"Hellfire" is definitely still creepy though Johnathan Young's cover is AMAZING. It's creepier when you realize that the figure in red robes are saying in Latin "It is your fault" when Frollo sings that it's not his fault. Oh yeah and the whole lust or die theme too.
I feel like Tim curry missed the memo of ferngully being a kids movie when singing toxic love. Also batty rap is kinda dark if yoy think about it
I’d add “Once There Was the Sun” or “Marry the Mole” (that very simplified summary of Romeo and Juliet was pretty creepy) from Thumbelina.
Thumblia: 'Marry the mole was sung by a guy, acting as a woman, Miss Mouse is creepy, as is the song.
"Marry the Mole" always creeped me out, as a kid and an adult.
Those Siamese cats scared the heck out of me when I was little.
That song Heffalumps and Woozles from Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day doesn’t frighten me at all this reminds me of a yoga workout class I visualize.
The chef seems to take an unnatural pleasure in what he’s doing to the fish
Well I’m only in about 13-14 minutes into the video and I’ve already been jamming out the whole video. No matter how evil, twisted, mean, greedy, selfish or creepy these songs are they are all awesome and catchy 😂
The Prince of Egypt is probably the best long cartoon movie of all time. My Mother and I saw it in the theater when it first came out and she was crying at the end of the first song. I was crying by the middle of the movie. We're Catholics. I was about eight at the time. Very well done. Amazing movie. Everyone should watch it!

Yep Hellfire at #1, Too predictable, Still a great dark song.
32:23-32:33 Asmodeus: ♪That's the spirit of lust! ❤️🔥♪
I love the villian songs. "Savages" randomly pops into my head when I'm hyper. But I still have nightmares of "Toxic Love".
Hell Fire is made more creepy because right before it, Heaven's Light with Quasimodo is sung, which is a stark contrast to Frollo's dark desires.
“My Lullaby” is such a good song!!
30:21 it's no surprise the ten pleauges is nothing to take lightly
BTW, "The Prince of Egypt"
Great music, great animation, and great cast. Truly a masterpiece.❤
0:52 is that Cinderella ? lol
I find it funny that Rasputin sings about how ‘one little girl got away’ when there’s still her Grandmama to take care of. He’s just dead set on killing Anastasia specifically.
The Dowager Empress Maria wasn't a Romanov; her last name was Feodorovna, & she was Danish, not Russian.
@@augiegirl1 Oh, really? I never knew that. Thank you for the info. 👍
The song "The next right thing" describes what people with clincal depression feel, what they lost... their happiness and hope... And not everyone manages to get out of that hole... I am happy I did... after 3 years of therapy. "Waiting on a miracle" also goes sooo deep when you live in such a family
Don't forget about "Unleash the Magic" from EG.
Yes
absolutely love Hellfire (i heard it when i was 11 yrs old and i'm now 39) and that song is awesome!!
Fun fact about "Be Prepared": Jeremy Irons got sick and couldn't record the second half of the song, so Jim Cummings, the voice of Ed the hyena, sang it for him.
Jim said this at a comic con panel I saw and even sang some for us.
"In the dark of the night". Love the film Anastasia but that part still frightens me. At least fast forwarding a dvd is a lot easier then a video!
Pink Elephants always scared me, the animation was just so creepy and out of nowhere I still find it hard to look at sometimes...so many of these songs are actual bangers though
Coworker and I literally just talked about the pink elephant song at work today! Also mention how pink elephant is old slang for drunk
"Trust in Me" is scary whether sung by Sterling Holloway or Scarlett Johansson!
a list of joyful and uplifting songs would be a good idea for a list.
He Lives in You would be amazing on there. (Simba's Pride)
I agree
I think I was 4 or 5 when I saw Dumbo the first time. I've never been frightened by the Pink Elephant's song; perhaps because I focused on the colors and the shapes and the song itself.
Man, most of these songs would be on my playlist. Particularly around Halloween.🎃
Upon hearing the song, “Worthless” from the Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue, I learned how my 1999 Saab 9-3 would feel if it were a living creature
3:34 I love how Sterling Holloway, with that weirdly musical voice of his, could be REALLY creepy when he wanted to!
Not me going “oh I love this song!” with each song starting ahah 🙈
MsMojo made the correct choice for the number 1 spot.
I knew what the #1 would be as soon as I saw the title
When half of these "creepy/dark" songs are literally my favorites of all time lol
Hellfire And The Plagues Are My Favourite Dark Songs, I LOVED
“This is the Thanks I Get” (from Wish)
Hell Yeah, HELLFIRE #1! My all time fave song of any animated movie!!!!!!
