Just married a Haitian man and my mother in law came over from Haiti (we live in DR) and gave us a huge thing of epis. We out now. This recipe about to save my marriage. 🙌🏾😂
You can freeze the epis. When my mother used to visit she would make large batches of it for me i would just freeze it into cubes then bag it. Ready for cooking whenever i needed it.
I'm black and white but my husband is puerto rican and columbian so I learned to cook spanish style and hearing him say MMM this shiiii goooood means everything 😂😎🥰
Oh my goodness! I saw this on Instagram about a year ago, and the person was african, so I didn't know it was called epis! I've been making them and putting them in icecube trays and freezing them. Then pop them out when frozen and put them back in the freezer inside freezer bags. I use it for boiling my meat, chicken etc, in my stews, bolognese, and my stir-fry. There's a difference! My family can't get enough of my food when I add the epis. Totally a game changer ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! It's my son's birthday. He wants me to make him the puff pastry with the ground beef. I had no idea how to make the seasoning. You're a doll!
You have definitely gained a subscriber. I'm American born and raised in USA and my husband is Haitian. And it has really discouraged me because I can barely cook American food let alone Haitian. So hopefully watching you would help 🤞🏾
Yes! I use lemon juice in my epis and oil, but the last two times I've used just a small amount citric acid which works the same to preserve the seasoning.
This looks good. Definitely similar to what my mom makes. I came here from IG. Love your channel. Just wanted to tell you the thyme was missing from the ingredients list in the description box.
Hello! I made your recipe and posted it on my IG page, I froze half of it and put the rest in the fridge. Also, I used lime instead of lemon is that ok? Thank you for all of the yummy recipes, I'm purchasing your book now. Sending Blessings from my table to yours.
I made the epis and it is delicious. When it's frying in the pan with oil, the aroma is so good and can be smelled outside. I followed the recipe and made 32 oz. Thank you....question:when I go to a Haitian restaurant i get fried green plantains and there is a dip that comes with it. What is the recipe for the dip?
I’m Haitian and yes you can use any bullion cubes. Chicken or beef or the veggie bouillon cubes. She did an amazing job. My mom use to make it this way too. Or she’ll go the real old school way and make it in a wooden pestle ( pilon) that version is too time consuming but in Haiti they do it like that. Also you only do the pilon version if you’re making a small batch of épis
The DR and Puerto Rican recipes were taken from African recipes so of course as the cultures were forced together so would the food preparation. Like I say to my children. The traffic flooded one direction,, out from Africa. Whiich means if you find it traditionally similar to anything ancestral in Africa; especially in a climate where there was forced labor and trafficking, then usually thanks returns to those beautiful African ancestors.
Look for other Epis recipes. The lemon is what you may be tasting. Use vinegar, Badia Mojo, Sour orange Badia, or no citric acid or cilantro at all & freeze in ice cubes to preserve.
Food processor is the best option to make green seasoning. You don't add vinegar if you want to store it because the vinegar kills the flavor after a while. The core should be removed from the thyme because is dangerous for your intestines. Use only the leaves of the thyme. Only extta virgin oil is recommended . Adding water is a big no no no no. You can freeze it for as long as you want to.
I am a professional cook and I would like to inform you about green seasoning if I may. . Water into the seasoning is a big no no no . Vinegar is also a big no no no because it kills the flavor of the seasoning .If you want to save it, only oil is recommended as liquid and You can freeze it for as long as you can my dear. I just married a haitian man also. I'm on here trying to learn how to cook stuff he will enjoy lol
I love this💞
I know those men are troublesome…😂 be safe ladies

😂
In Guyana we use broad leaft thyme, fine leaf thyme, onions, scallons, basil and garlic

I never thought of cubes that is like the perfect serving size
Asslam o Alaikum My dear you prepare very nice yummy beautiful recipe 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌹🌹 Masha Allah
That’s a really good idea to freeze it into cubes. Thanks to your mom, and you for sharing ❤️
Such a great idea. When you are ready to use the cubes for meat tho, how do you thaw it fast?
That's exactly how I do mine! 😊❤❤❤
My husband is Haitian and I made this and season the chicken and beans. Served it with yellow rice and he enjoyed every bite. Thank you!
Mmmm that sounds good 👌😍 will try I love epis‼️

I added epis to my Jamaican Chicken Wings; it's on my YT channel. Your YT channel was one of the channels I learned how to make epis from.
Epis is what we called green seasoning in JA.
@@veronicar8666 yes, but there’s different variations to it
Did you refer everyone to her recipe here? That helps a lot.

I just recently found out about this as well and it is so amazing! I made my first batch from your video and it came out delicious thank you

I noticed bushel instead of bunch. I’m hoping everyone knows that you meant bunch 😅
That’s so cute of you to cook your husband national dishes for him
I gotta do the same thing I try to make soul food but his favorite is Haitian food so I gotta do it lol
Thank You SOOOO much. I’m Haitian but live in Phoenix and trying to bring a little bit of Home AND South Florida to the West Coast
Thanks. a lot ! ❤
I made it it was fantastic. Will be making it regularly and using it on everything. Thank you for sharing
If you don't have lemon juice you can always use vinegar instead to keep the seasoning flavors intact.
How much and can it be either white or acv?
@@loisdaniels6778 white vinegar
I have never seen lemons grown in Haïti. Depending on what we are cooking, we use limes or sour oranges.
Can we use limes
Love it....we Ethiopians do the same way.
Adobo
Onions
Garlic
Thyme
Green onion
Red green pepper
Parsley
Silantro
Papper
Olive oil
Seasoning
Thanks
Cilantro
Habanero or scotch bonnet pepper just to differentiate from the green and red bell pepper.
Ouuuu that’s similar to the Puerto Rican/Dominican ‘Sofrito’ 😋😋😋 adds sooo much flavor
Yes you are right and i looove it!

I found you on Instagram!! Great videos!! New Subscriber 💙💙💙
You can also use a bit of citric acid to help the refrigerator shelf life
I just made this and its fantastic. Thanks Tara for telling me about this channel. Mine is watery also. Next time I won't add the water
Can you put it in ice trays in the freezer to preserve it longer?
Yes, you can.
@@TheLadyCheriNoir thank you for your response.

Just know thyme is included in almost every black culture recipe around the world.
Hi can you make a video on how to make pepper sauce!
Thank you so much for showing us this. Will definitely be making it
Awesome! How long does it keep in the fridge in a sealed glass jar?
Nice you did a really great job!
Thanks!
People are hella weird with these comments. But, anyway, glad I found your channel. Looks good!
Some use vinegar to preserve it.
Awesome. I'm going to make some tomorrow. Thank you for sharing.
Hello, is the chicken bouillon Maggie?
My question too
Never heard of any haitian dishes before today so thank you and one I will try too 💜
Is freezing it ok in Zip Freezer bags...
Can you make a video showing the pickled red onions? It looked amazing in the Instagram pic. I just subscribed 😀!
Definitely gonna give this a try
How many thyme leave you put in there?
I finally made it. OMG...I love it.

Can I use the magic bullet?
How long would it last in fridge
You didn't mention the time in the description is that optional??
Is canning this a option?
I just found this video and i tried this recipe…. It came out good but tangy…. Is that because of the cilantro?
What is it suppose to taste like ?
Look for other Epis recipes. The lemon is what you may be tasting. Use vinegar, Badia Mojo, Sour orange Badia, or no citric acid or cilantro at all & freeze in ice cubes to preserve.
Looks good sister!
I made this exact same recipe, but it was a bit runny. Could it be the blender (vitamix)? Should I use a food processor instead?
Next time omit the water. It could be the blender you used.
@@ThatNurseCanCook thank you! I see the water separated at the bottom of my mason jar anyway.

How much thyme? It's not listed in the caption
Is this the same Recipe as green seasoning
Hi, you didn't include how much thyme in the description :)
What do you use for All purpose and Chicken Seasoning? Do you make your own or use store bought?
I typically use Goya adobo as my go to all purpose seasoning 😀
I love this but I'm going to add ginger and all spice to mine!
That sounds really good!!
Good recipe just if u got the ninja use less water
Totally agree ❤️
Hello, I love this recipe. Am I able to use scotch bonnet pepper sauce since I can't find fresh scotch bonnet pepper?
Yea, you can use the scotch bonnet sauce just not too much. The acidity in the sauce will kill the dish 😀
Is this the same as recaito?
You can keep it fresh by putting it in the back of your refrigerator.....
Into an icecube tray and put frozen green cubes away in the freezer 💚
Someone in a video put whole Cloves and blended it all. She used garlic Cloves too .
She most likely used whole cloves to give it a smoky after taste
Its not necessarily the same for everyone but it depends on preference.
I definitely need to know now much tyme lol
I think it’s like around 10 to 15 sprigs.
Love it but you forgot thyme in your ingredients list i had to go back to the grocery store lol 🫶🏽🥹
I hope you meant 1/2 bunches of parsley and cilantro, not bushels???
It appears that auto correct bit into your recipe. Bunch has become "bushel", we old farmers know better - that would be pounds ( kilos) of herbs.
😫I cannot find my frozen cubes of EPIS!!! Freezer is running over inside its been eaten by the ice blob🥶
You forgot to mention the green onion Scalyen was cut up as well cause I was confused what to do with it when it wasn’t mentioned 😭😭
I believe she said to cut everything up.
