You have to get used to this kind of gameplay. The first time I tried it I hated fighting and stopped playing after the intro mission, but I gave it a chance again after some time because I loved the books so much and I wanted to spend time in this world. Finally got used to it and since then I think I finished it 3-4 times and I love it, definitely worth to continue playing.
This is a good game for its time. I think that potions system is even better than in witcher 3. Cool music, too. I highly recommend that you do not spam the left click in fights. If you clicked once -> you will attack in 100% of cases, but if you clicked again, you cancel both, and you hit goes on cd 😅. Hope to see the full play through. Your witcher 3 gameplay was the best. Keep it up, and thank you!
For me Witcher 1 story is way better than W2 and W3 I finish it 5 times good game for me fighting isnt that bad after few hours i can't wait for the Remake
@honzawalczysko4666 it just sucks that my expectations got set high when people kept telling me the writing and story were better than 2 and 3. Maybe in Polish it's better but the English game is like a B tier 90s movie
BTW, The Enhanced Edition is WAAAAY better than the original release, I have it on disk somewhere, and it was TERRIBLE, the writing was ass, because it was badly translated from Polish, they had to rerecord most of the dialogue for the Enhanced Edition, they also fixed a lot of bugs, added QoL features, and improved the graphics.
I would strongly recommend doing all the content in The Witcher 3, just like you I started the platinum although I've already played the game 4-5 times and I've decided I would do EVERY inch of content (except skellige underwater treasures), and it's been a fucking blast. So many good sidequests and contracts I never did or random encounters I never knew existed.
I back to this game almost everery year, just to once again soak into that dirty, brutal, slvic world full of extremely good writed characters and quests. I see why because of gampley some people can say its ,,hilarious'' nowdays. I play every game of Witcher trilogy several times, and the immersion during W1 is on another level comparable only to orginal books. Games like this or fallout 2 are really underrated beacuse most of players dont even consider them worth playing, they just say nah im out, too outdated gameplay-wise. I wish more players can play and joy old good games.
Yeah, I've got a friend like that. Pretty affluent guy with cutting edge gear, that refuses to play games like W1, original HL or "older" MMOs, f. e. GW2 or classic WoW just because he can't stand the "outdated" graphics and mechanics. I've tried multiple times to change his mind, telling him, that he misses out a lot, but it is to no avail. Pretty much same thing goes for my fiance, when it comes to movies or tv shows, where almost anything older than 15 y. o. is unwatchable to her due to it being drawn or directed poorly. Idk. why ppl draw so much attention to the visual stuff nowadays. It's like they do not care about a valuable overall experience, but want some cheap entertainment provided by vividly colored mess.
Mind me, I'm not saying, that nothing good comes out nowadays, but it's just sad, that many great pieces of media with stories still relevant today fall into obscurity, because most modern consumers are overstimulated and can't keep up with the pacing.
Watching you do multiple clicks and cancelling your own attacks in the beginning was painful haha. Witcher 1 combat is simply a simplified rhythm mini game, that's all!
Witcher1 is basically a total conversion mod of Neverwinter nights. If you press F1 you can play with a top down view with mouse only just like those older rpgs. It's actually much nicer that way in my opinion. The over the shoulder third person feels like late addition to this game that's built on a top/isometric view rpg game engine.
Hi Rob! I understand that this game did not age well. But please give it a chance! It still has this beautiful slavic world. I would love to see you play it.

And here I am, thinking that I am past religiously following a man's playthrough. Haha. Good job on taking up this one. After you have finished Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 (both good games with good stories, I like Witcher 2 even more that this one btw, and it is a shortest one of the trilogy), I hope you will not abandon the idea of playing New Game+ of Witcher 3.
I know it's difficult to play since they had way less budget and it was one of their first games but like any RPG I would say to try and play a few hours to see if there's anything that can make you interested in playing it to the end
I personally disagree. It’s not really reasonable to assume he’s meant to be that ugly when he has so many physical relationships with the most attractive women on the continent. He wouldn’t be that desirable if he was that disgusting. He’s meant to be rough and strange looking, but still attractive in a way. W3 and even W2 captured that pretty well.
@IAmRobPlays I'm afraid to tell you that looks aren't everything. So many people which are considered ugly, or at least not good looking by most people get beautiful women thanks to their other qualities, charisma, high intellect, money, power...
@@tameu1309it’s just not realistic that he can sleep with so many beautiful women while broke and hideous. Witcher 3 is his accurate appearance for sure
@@IAmRobPlays Well, he wasn't specially ugly. He had ‘an unpleasant’ look on his face, he was unnaturally pale, lean and had those scary eyes. It was enough for commoners to be afraid of him but not for educated people. And I don't think he's actually ugly in Witcher-1. Other characters don't look much better except for maybe Shani and Adda :) It's just the level of graphics of that time, but the very idea of depicting him so was true to the books imho. The point of @tameu1309 may be that in W3 he looks completely like a healthy and physically strong guy, even much prettier than most of local men :)
You should really play and finish all 3 of them they are so fun. My ranking of the Witcher games is Witcher 3, Witcher and last but not least Witcher 2
Oh wow, I didn't expect that 😂To be honest, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of all time, but the first one has an unmatched sentimental value to me. I played it when I was 11 or so, over and over again, and it's mindblowing to think the combat mechanic and graphics were not an issue back then. Now it looks like a horror game 😅 I can only imagine how much of a generational jump it is to someone playing it now, especially fresh after finishing TW3, but give it a chance. It has its charms. Atmosphere for one.
If you didn't know, CD Project Red used Bioware's (the maker of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR, Baldur"s Gate 1& 2) engine to make this game, and worked with some members of the Bioware team to get the engine working the way they wanted for this game. If you didn't know Bioware is also known for their choice and storytelling. I say that to suggest that If you haven't played it, you should definitely play Bioware's Mass Effect trilogy. The Legendary Edition is remastered, have an upped resolution & framerate, quality of life improvements, and all 3 games and dlc (Bioware probably has the 2nd best dlc made, only 2nd to CD Project Red) are together, as your 1 character and decisions go across all 3 games. Mass Effect 1 came out the same year as this, 2007, so even though they made it look better, they couldn't change some of the U.I. gameplay stuff, so it feels like a 2010 game aspects, but it's still really good and is easier to play and revisit than Witcher 1 without mods. Also, if you want more CD Project Red, Cyberpunk 2077 with the Phantom Liberty dlc is amazing.
IMO Witcher 1 is the best game out of three in terms of atmosphere and plot, but lacks in gameplay in many parts (still better than witcher 2, which i wholeheartedly despise for horrible gameplay). Btw coombat becomes hilarious when you get to high levels in first witcher 1, especially against many enemies
Not sure if you figured it out yet (I paid only half attention to the video as I was playing games myself), but when fighting you have to click with left button at the moment when this fire around mouse cursor appears. In order to do combo hits, if you click too early it cancels previous attack and starts the attack from scratch. (Edit: also if your attacks fail at the beginning of the animation often then it might mean that you have wrong style active)
The combat is easy once you figure it out. Just click at the right times, instead of spamming. It really plays more like a classic RPG, so to hit chance and dodge are all stats and dice rolls. The second act drags, but after that it's nearly smooth sailing. I still think this game is better than the other two (especially better than 2).
It’s also the closest to book Geralt we ever get. It’s a shame they really pulled back on Geralts dialogue by Witcher 3. He’s constantly talking in the books.
Tbh the difficult part is only KM part. It's the moment to get used to the mechanics we're not used to anymore. The village and Visima part is really easy. At least it was for me. And after changing options you need to accept it ^^
I can never not laugh whenever I see that face. It's gets even funnier when you consider how hot TW3's Geralt look. Edit: Yup! The sword fight made me remember....uninstalled it after a couple tries.
The graphic was not the best. Because this was the studio's very first game. And they use the engine same engine as Neverwinter Nights from BioWare, which I vaguely recalled that they have to customized it quite a bit.
I dont know if this is a hot topic or not. Witcher 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, even 10 years later. Then, after that, i prefer witcher 1 so much more than witcher 2
About Geralt being hideous, I think his look here is more accurate than the super model Hollywood Geralt we got in TW3. In the books, he is said to look a little unsettling, so that works ! I hope that when the remaster comes, they keep this more rugged and book accurate look to him.
I get this somewhat, but at the same time.. I think it’s a tad bit silly to suggest Geralt isn’t meant to be attractive. The books don’t go into INCREDIBLE detail on his physical appearance other than him having white hair, scarred, rugged, snake eyes, pale. He’s consistently having physical relationships with the most beautiful women on the continent, sorceresses, so to suggest he’s some hideous creature just seems a little far fetched. I personally feel W3 is the most accurate depiction. Rugged and scary, but yet still attractive.
@@IAmRobPlays He had not so many physical realtions with women in books as games try to make us believe :) I could actually count them with fingers on my hands: Yennefer, Tris (not during events in books), Essi, Fringilla, priestess Iola, one of Zerrikan warriors (unknown which one of two), Shani (1 time), and Lytta Neyd aka ‘Coral’ (in ‘Season of Storms’ spin-off). It's eight books and god knows how many decades. It doesn't look like he's Casanunda of that world :) And, well, those women were attracted to him not because of his cuteness, but because of who he was.
Actually I modded witcher 3 to have geralt look more like this. I really hope they don't butcher the remake. Best music of all 3 games. Back in the days, the atmosphere was quite unique. And you are guilty of making me play witcher 3 again BTW. Thank you
Once you get used to the combat system and the jank, the character models and the bad to non-existent animations, this is actually a great game. Its narrative is pretty clean, its soundtrack is the best in the series (love the witcher 3's music but I like this more) and I think its world has the perfect size for its story. While I like the open world of 3 and its towns and villages are beautiful, they feel more surface level than Vizima in 1. Novigrad is impressive but most of it is just empty space gameplay-wise. Witcher 1's limited space makes it feel more significant. You actually have time to get to know the places and notice when things change and every little nook and cranny seems to be utilized at least once in the story. It's more Majora's Mask's Clock Town while the Witcher 3 is closer to Breath of the Wild. I hope the remake doesn't go too big. No bigger than Toussaint, max. Less space, more depth.
I definitely believe Marigold and Lambert slept together. During the drinking game, Gerald said I never jumped out a lover‘s window and Lambert drank n said he doesn’t want to hurt his friend 😂 46:05
You complaining about how the game looks but didn't even bother change graphic settings from medium to high. You've only changed the resolution. The first thing to do, especially in old games is to turn up everything to max, play with resolution later
The third game is in the class of its own, but sequel being better than the original? On which ground exactly? Just don't tell me it's because of gRaPhIcS, cause I'm gonna puke.
graphics is not too important to me. Witcher 1 is my third favorite game of all time. Dragon age Origins probably my number 4 favorite game. I believe that Witcher games improved in other areas as well(like side quests, storytelling, characters...)
Yeah now you know why they decided to do a remake lol, the first game has aged like a glass of milk on a hot summer day in a lot of aspects. But if you really want more Witcher, the second game actually aged relatively well, still rough ngl but a lot more enjoyable in my opinion
Gameplay has not aged well but in terms of quality overall for me this is still the best Witcher game. Yes, graphics have aged, but its 17y old and it still has nice art style and atmosphere. Itemization and alchemy are best implied system in any RPG. There are very few items, but they do count and make a difference. There is none of those mmo stuff where you carry 10 armors and find a magic sword behind every corner that is useless junk when you level up. It feels the most like you play as a Witcher because on highest difficulty you need alchemy to survive, unlike in other 2 games where you can ignore it and sword through everything. Worst thing in this game is too much backtracking that becomes a chore, especially in chapter 2
Yea you’re talking outta your ass lol. There’s NO WAY you played the Witcher 3 on the highest difficulty and say that you can just ignore the other mechanics and just swing your sword. The death march difficulty literally forces you to interact with and use those other mechanics.
@@devin6079 I have no clue wtf are you on. I've finished TW3 on highest difficulty multiple times and you can just sword your way out of anything-if you are leveled with top gear. Only real potions you need are swallow and food in 99% of cases. Have you played TW1 on highest or at all? If not pleas don't answer me.
1:42 who ever says witcher 1 is difficult has to be either a 2 yo new born or someone who has never even touched a game in their life before witcher 1 was easy 2 was difficult 3 was normal

Very much enjoying your Witcher content. Any plans for a Let's Play of Witcher 1 and/or 2? = )
Love the Witcher series!
Intro cinematic is from one of the tales in the books, pretty cool
Finally more Witcher! Hell yeah!
The graphic was not the best. Because this was the studio's very first game. And they use the engine same engine as Neverwinter Nights from BioWare, which I vaguely recalled that they have to customized it quite a bit.
The voice actors get better in Witcher 2, but you can tell everyone are noobs in this one.
Thronebreaker is great with voice and music.
I LOVE The Witcher games ! And the one is, even if old, my favourite
Amazing game, can't wait for the remake of Witcher 1
No way, he actualy did it
You know old game neverwinter nights 2? its the same engine, Aurora. That what they made with this engine is crazy
BioWare made the Aurora Engine, Neverwinter Nights 1 + Expansions run on it as well.
I love witcher and I love you playing it
Holup u mean to tell me that the Rob girthy is posting videos in 4k now
Actually I modded witcher 3 to have geralt look more like this. I really hope they don't butcher the remake. Best music of all 3 games. Back in the days, the atmosphere was quite unique. And you are guilty of making me play witcher 3 again BTW. Thank you
that Monster looks like blanka
7:10 legit how i felt when starting this game a while back
Yup. The moment you finish the Witcher 3 you realise that nothing else will ever compare.
Truly sad
might I suggest isometric view? It is easier to control better that way. OTS makes the player dizzy to no end lol
I hope they remake Witcher 1 and 2 so badly 😭
2 is good
They confirmed a Witcher 1 remake is coming
@@albesayz yeah but only after Witcher 4, so you won't see that game anytime soon
I definitely believe Marigold and Lambert slept together. During the drinking game, Gerald said I never jumped out a lover‘s window and Lambert drank n said he doesn’t want to hurt his friend 😂 46:05
Ever seen the old polish tv show? Last i checked all episodes were on YT.
You complaining about how the game looks but didn't even bother change graphic settings from medium to high. You've only changed the resolution. The first thing to do, especially in old games is to turn up everything to max, play with resolution later
Will you play more of this?
Witcher 1 is not as good as Witcher 2 or 3 but it is still a great game. Atmosphere in this game is awesome.
You should try it with Polish dubbing, I think both the witcher 3 and 1 sounds better in Polish
The narrator is dandelion btw
2:52 the way geralt looks in witcher 1 is closer to how the books portray him a human that makes others uncomfortable around him
@@the_dark_wulf2716not really because he wouldn’t be able to bed so many women if he looked THAT hideous
Are you planning a playthru of cyberpunk?
What’s going on here seems like here offering the sword
You're in a hurry. The remake of The Witcher 1 is coming out in six months. Good episode ;p
I thought you're going to wait for the remake.
This game was made when standard screen was 4:3 800p ressolution or even lower 😂
Funny enough I liked this game more than Witcher 3 lol.
Witcher 2 is my fave.
Witcher 1 is in the middle.
Witcher 3 is my least favorite.
But I did like them all!
