(for those who wish to sing along)
    [JENNA]
    Door number two
    It’s for you, little lady
Is it all that you dreamed of?
How, if I knew, would’ve been there waiting and I’d lock that damn door shut.
    I stepped inside
    and the wrong man arrived
    at exactly the right time
    too young to know
    that being alone
was something I could have survived.
    He takes what he can
    what he wants
doesn’t matter if its ever been given
I took the bait and a chance on a man
sold by the boy that he lived in
    I was wrong
to believe that strength made him strong, I had hope
in a change I would see in us both
    And now, I’m heavy
and he lifts me but never once carried
Door number two, I’ve already walked through
    Ask me a question
    What happens next
now that I’m here at this crossroad?
    Plain to be seen
that it’s all up to me
but I’m choosing for two now
    Here we go
In all my choices so far,
no trophy, no prize, no new car
just a man who has made me so small
    So could I set fire
    and char this ground?
    Could I lift this up
even from only getting let down?
    Will I be enough
to get this on its way to find some higher ground?
    Before the waters rush
I’ve got to make a change
Or else I know I’ll drown
    Baby, look around
Door number two, I’ve already walked through
    I wanna see what’s behind
    Door number three

Thank you for this! I've been looking for this specific set of lyrics because the one on Sara's album is a different version 😂 gotta love that about theater songs

This song highlights Jenna's frustration with Earl so much. This could have stayed.

Tamanna Das this song was rewritten as “what baking can do”. “Door number three” made the pacing of the show rather clunky as Jenna’s frustration with Earl was already made plain to the audience. “Door number three” is simply Jenna lamenting her situation. “What baking can do” shows us Jenna’s strength and her determination to make it through her present circumstances. “What baking can do” also gives us a glimpse into Jenna’s childhood and her relationship with her mother, which gives the character more depth.

@@ajrobinson729 yeah, I'm aware what it was changed into. And I didn't really mean that What Baking Can Do should have been cut for this to stay... I guess I rather greedily meant that both could have stayed? But yea, I know that wouldn't have happened as they are both similar songs, so it was one or the other. And What Baking Can Do staying does make more sense in being in the show, for all the reasons you listed.

Tamanna Das I wish this could have been moved to after the affair with doctor pomatter, maybe replace bad idea reprise. it gives a lot of depth into why Jenna would continue the affair, shows that even after everything Earl is never going to change, so dr Pomatter was behind door number 3

@@oxlauraxo5039 that's pretty smart. It could have acted as a reprise to What Baking Can Do. I guess they used "You Matter To Me" to highlight why she stayed.

I love this song, I know it was a tough one for Jessie to sing and I understand why it was replaced with What Baking Can Do but such a good song and Jessie kills it.

I think this song could've worked in the same place as "She Used to Be Mine." But only if that song didn't become as big as it did.
