- You asked (A LOT) and we are so thrilled to (FINALLY) share "Down At The Diner" the original opening number from Waitress! "Opening Up," the song we know and love, eventually replaced DATD long before the production premiered in summer 2015 at A.R.T., but way way back at the December 2014 workshop a little piece of theater history was made. I love Opening Up, but I feel like this could've been a pre-recorded part for either a House-Open or a Pre-Show. As kind of way to introduce what the show is for someone who doesn't know.

Shouldn't have been cut. The workshop cast was the best, even if I only saw a bit. barrett wilbert weed is already my favourite dawn, just for one song. I wish there was more recorded ART footage but it's too hard to film a professional show, legal issues. The only things you can find is bootlegs. Imo, DATD shouldn't have been cut, best song in waitress in my opinion! Best cast, best song, great theatre, what more can you ask for?
It was replaced with Opening Up. And Opening Up reuses some lines from it. There was no longer a need for Down at the Diner. And since it is an establishing number, there really isn’t anywhere else to put it.
Who was Dawn here??
Barrett Wilbert Weed sang the role of Dawn at the workshop.
