  • Opsix native is a software recreation of KORG’s opsix hardware synth. Whilst sonically and functionally identical, they accommodate a very different workflow.
We decided to compare the hardware and software versions. Are there any notable differences? And which is the best option for you?

The opsix is the first FM synthesizer which let's you literally grab this synthesis form, makes it avaible for the touch of your fingers. That's a very important point for choosing the hardware. Or can you switch multiple faders via the mouse to tune the FM operators? That's a great way to find sweetspots. Oh my, if the DX7 had this option back in the days. 😂

I can't change the presets/programs from the hardware opsix when using the plugin. Am I doing something wrong? Seems silly to me that I have to reach for the mouse to browse presets.

Can you buy a Korg Opsix with v2 already installed? Or can it only be updated by downloading?
I have vision problems and really don't want to use Native or a mouse while I'm making music.

It will all depend on the store you purchase from as to whether they have the latest version but most likely you will have to download and update

Please help: is it possible to "control" the ratios of each part with sliders with the VST? I am playing around with the free demo version of Opsix and I am able to assign knob function to the levels of each part, BUT I cannot control the ratios. Wondering if that is possible with the full version. That seems like an important function. If not possible on VST, huge drawback.
    Thanks for any input.

Hi David, Not sure we understand your question. Are you trying to control opsix native's parameters with a MIDI controller?
Most, if not all parameters including operator ratio and level are automatable and MIDI mappable via your DAW. There is no difference in this regard between the demo and full versions.

@@Noisegate thanks for responding. Yes, I would like to assign/map parameters with a midi controller.
With levels and velocity, for example, I am able to right click and "control change" appears to allow for mapping.
When I try to do that with the ratios, nothing happens.
      I appreciate the feedback.

Are they REALLY? the same sonically? Looking for justification to buy the desktop.... 🤣🤣

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  11 дней назад +1

Yes! Both digital synths, once is tactile in hardware form, while the other is in the box. Definitley buy the desktop if you love hands on control and tactile patching.

Deep, man. No,, I'm serious...kinda mind-numbingly deep (for me, at least). Seems like you could take THIS (NATIVE by all means) and your vintage Minimoog ...and go play a show. You tell me. What else would you need? Maybe Wavestate 2.0 (NATIVE).

@@funkingitup1805 Ok a Sweatwater rep started this rumour because Korg were blowing out Opsix's at $300 a time in the US then after that run, Korg indicated there were no more supplies left but the rest of the world could still get hold of them at the regular price.
So it looks like a Korg publicity stunt but we will see.

@@straighttalk2069 They were, I got one! But I think theyre still around but at trhe higher price. 300 bucks is a ludicrious price.. so ludicrious that I just had to jump on it despite not being in the market for a wierd modern FM synth.. but I am glad I discovered this thing, it is insane and great for the type of stuff I do. I would probablly opt for the plugin only though, the gent is rigjt, you get SO nuch more from the GUI and frankly, the hardware feels about as flimsy as a 'pro' level keyvboard as Ive ever felt. Turns out hands on control of FM modulators isnt as helpful as you might think, with lots of the functions being super stair-steppy and not in a quirky plesant, useable way. Still, eveerything else about this thing is and Im getting all kinds a wicked sounds for IDM type stuff that Im just tickled pink over. I will likely sell my hardware bit though. Korg rules.
