Ok, when a synth gives me chills right out of the box (well, right out of the box and into Unify using the Unified selectors!) I consider that to be a very good sign. Play a note or a chord, hold it, enjoy the chills and goosebumps! Wonderful! Being a proud owner of both an original Wavestation (my first "real" synth of my own bought back in 1994) AND a Wavestation SR rack obtained in 1997 with both still working fine, you can imagine I was looking forward to playing with this - and SATISFACTION IS MINE! ;-)
This is great news (from Korg and yourself!).. having tried a friends Wavestate, it is clearly a no-brainer for me to get this (at full price later.. if I can't stretch funds now.). I am even considering trading up my iPads and Macbook Pro for a Mac mini (where Gadget would be able to REALLY shine!). P.S. Gadget VST in Unify ?

Where did you get the demos? I don't see them on the Korg Site. If I knew my computer could handle it I would buy it in an instant. I'm on a 2.8 Quad core Apple MacBook (2014).

Great vid demo... I love Korg for doing this, they should bundle these 2 like they do their other VST's.. At least Korg is not like Roland Cloud (archaic)... Roland forces you to keep logging in to run your purchased VST (stupid).. They also don't provide VST bundles like Korg does. Thank goodness for Cherry Audio & Arturia for my Roland VST's

But John, given that they are purely digital, why wouldn't they sound totally identical. I think the question would be: why wouldn't they sound the same, unless you had a lousy soundcard? That aside, I only have the hardware Opsix, but have watched a few videos of the software version, and for sure, being able to see all six operators at once with visual feedback is great, let alone that looking for patches is just so much easier being able to see folder categories. How much more convenient when dealing with hundreds of patches. Thanks for the video and information too!
Is it possible to route the layers to different outputs? Let's say for either adding different effects, surround mixing, and/ or sending to different hard digital to analog converter outputs on your interface?

It looks to me that, in software, your VIEW of things increases like by ONE MILLION that of what the hardware's screen permits. I get 'turning knobs,' but my goodness...would be impossible for me to pick the hardware over this brilliant software GUI. Seems like the hardware would be endless menu diving compared to...
Wavestate and Opsix is VST3 only. You need to use a DAW that can handle these. Most of the modern ones do, but some older ones still don't (like Ableton Live 8 or 9).

@@musicx44 Have you checked that Reason scans for the correct directories? You can always force a full rescan by removing the PluginDatabase file (it should be in the Propellerhead Software/Reason directory).
I have tried it and...I will not buy it. Samples are not good and what to do with this synth ? Too complex. The opsix has a problem it is very CPU hungry but it seems more interesting
Now I have bought these two, and since I also have the original hardware, comparisons are easy. First of all, yes, they sound identical - well, being 100% digital, why shouldn't they. I cannot AxB them apart. The wavestate is a no-brainer, it is just soooo much easier to use in the computer. I will probably sell the hardware and just use the virtual one. The opsix on the other hand, hmm... seems unfinished. The VST version is super slow and laggy. Some menus, like FX and so are almost impossible to use since they close before you can select a value. Finally the GUI seems poorly thought out. Why spend a lot of processor on those pointless moving wave screens? I will definitely keep my opsix hardware for now.
These native VST's from Korg are the finale nail in the coffin for digital hardware synth purchases from Korg for me. Now we know it's only a matter of time before they become VST's
That almost doesn't make sense - I know where you're coming from, but how about looking at this a different way? Korg actually cared enough to design something in a way that would be released for those that need a hardware AND for those that simply need a software solution to getting access to these sounds and Wavesequencing 2.0 technology. You realize virtually every digital keyboard made in the last 10+ years COULD be a plug-in as well as hardware, but the company didn't do it either because they are afraid a software version is going to take away from their profits or they can't because they don't know how to do it. Korg knows and did it even if they sell fewer copies of hardware. This won't happen for everything but I think it's pretty cool you can use your exact patches you use LIVE in the studio and not need to hook up your hardware instruments to accomplish this. How's that for straighttalk?

If they had any sense of decorum and weren't so profit driven they would've released the VST's first (obviously they were in development at the same time) this would've allowed people to make an informed choice, whether to buy the hardware or not. I bet there are many like me who like the hardware but would've held off buying it at it's release price if the VST was already available. Anyway, they've actually saved me some cash, as I was that close to buying the OPSIX and MODWAVE, how's that for straighttalk.

If the hardware version wasn't what you wanted, they why not sell it. They didn't con you because of bringing out a software version 1 year later.

I have to wonder why Korg would do this; unless the VSTi's are priced close to the same price the hardware has, they've just cut the legs out of their hardware sales of both keyboards, and neither of them are cheap. $150 a piece? Ouch...that hurts! Sounds absolutely superb though....but all of my petty cash is tied up in my Roland Fantom 06 preorder(as well as all subsequent libraries I will be buying for it.) This new Fantom is a real game-changer...whereas Korg has dropped the ball & totally lost it, with regard to hardware workstations.
If you could pause on the ouch - a whole team worked 1year straight (or more) to conceive, design and build this. This costs money my friend. Having a steroid designed version of Wavesequencing AND the ability to use your own 4GB of samples - I hope you can see the Aaahhhh that is here instead of the ouch 😊

Memory places? If you mean RAM, 4GB is a lot to access. We only had 1/4 of a MEGABYTE for the original Wavestation. It’s not how much it’s how well you know how to use it.
lol Software is but modelled by hardware.... Lock it in! Software does it all... But never the simplicity of a simple interface that's hands on. GE's Imposcar II is awesome... But it still isn't an approach my original OSCar synth invokes yeh? And it actually sounds better..... Unlike todays DSP's algo's that are based on code, That are, well, Based on code.....

Just got the Wavestate VST version. Same as the hardware plus the MS-20 filter sounds just as good in the vst. Great stuff !!

Roland recently released their wave table synth for Zenology, but only for hardware. This will probably make them rethink that.

That ability is unfortunately not available right now in either Wavestate or Unify. Stereo out is the only option.

How to insert Wavestate into the DAW? Can't find .dll...Standalone works well...😔
Wavestate and Opsix is VST3 only. You need to use a DAW that can handle these. Most of the modern ones do, but some older ones still don't (like Ableton Live 8 or 9).
