Lovely list! May I suggest the Frank Bridge Cello Sonata? Simply the best ever, recorded by Rostropovich and Britten and many others. Try it!

Great list of music. I knew you were going to play Saint Saens No.1 lol. But how about Saint Saens No. 2? and his suites for cello and orchestra. I've heard it in Johannes Moser's Album of Saint Saens' works, and holy cow. Dare I say it changed my life. It was when I was in high school learning (my dearest piece) Saint Saens No.1. Listening to Saint Saens No.2 gave me more motivation to practice harder.
Weinberg cello concerto is my favorite ❤(sonatas are great as well)

Thank you. Lovely, two brothers both playing cello.I loved the lyrical,melodic parts. The cello is unbeaten in these. It is such a gorgeous instrument. Even its shape is beautiful. I didn't know Haydn wrote six (?) cello concertos. Why aren't they ever played? Only two.

Great video and list of works! I also think, that we have grate concertos from 20 century which are not so famous. Like 2nd Shostakovich, Lutoslawski, Britten’s etc. Luckily it’s now more common to play those type of concerts at final rounds at some big competitions and people can hear it. But I think that we have really much really cool music from that century
Wonderful choices Ilia - that myaskovsky is just incredible. I played it for the first time in march, and was completely surprised by just *how much * the public loved it. Bunraku is also just genius and i look forward to learning it someday, and Weinberg's 1st sonata is crazy (I love forward to replaying it someday haha).
I'd add Kabalevsky B-Flat cello sonata to the list. Listen to Isserlis's recording of the piece with Mustonen - incredible.
Samuel Barber Sonata op. 6 is one of the very underrated works in the cello literature. It’s a great sonata!
Great list, I honeslty completely thought you were talking about Schumann concerto for the frist one lol. I've honestly been loving the Ysaye and Ligeti solo sonatas. I wish they were played more, I would kill to see them live

I appreciate the premise of this video, but I gotta say the Saint-Saëns #1 and Lalo concertos as well as the Hindemith and Crumb solo sonatas are hardly “underrated” and are quite regularly performed by students and professionals alike. Might I suggest a few wonderful works which almost never get performed but deserve to:
CONCERTI: Finzi (I’m currently playing it - what a masterpiece), Atterberg, Weinberg, Moeran, Honegger, Röntgen #2, Englund
SONATAS (w/piano): Casella (2 of them), Foulds, Kabalevsky, Saint-Saëns #1, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Strohl (“Great Dramatic Sonata”), Alkan (“Sonate de concert”)
I’d add the Dutilleux Cello Concerto, Faure Sicilienne and Papillon, and the Tartini Cello Concerto

When I saw Dayvidov 2nd concerto on the list, I thought the Servais cello concerto would be on the list as well .A great concerto but it’s extremely underrated.

Dare you make a video of 10 most overrated cello pieces? I'll start. I believe Elgar's overrated, it's beautiful, but overrated.
Also, I believe Cello Concerto by Myaskovsky is underrated, sadly, it's so beautifully written, and very well balanced between cello and the orchestra.
