- USMLE STEP 1: PREVENTION, THE BOX, LOGIC. These are topics and questions sent in from students asking to solve. If you have any questions you are having difficulty with, you may send to randy.neil8@gmail.com. GOOD LUCK with STEP Exams... Keep Moving FORWARD!!
If there is any interest in another USMLE topic just comment below. At end of this video I show some of the notes I laminated for the subjects I studied and taught. Let me know if I can help.
👍
I would personally truly appreciate anything that can help with memorization topics! I can think my way through but when it comes to memorization I need to drill over and over again and will forget it still! I'd say check out what "Dirty medicine" Channel has and whatever he is missing would be a perfect start! Also those anatomy of the eye one pagers would be wonderful to review. Also some Psych topics especially because the exam has changed recently to include higher psych, pharm and ethics content
Can u make videos on confidence interval and hypothesis , p value and bias
Tina, Thank you for feedback as always.. Let me see if I can make something useful...
Let me do a little digging... I think knowing those topics will be best way to attack the DRUG Ads...
Im back 5 years later, using this video to review for my boards. Thanks Dr.Neil!
It will still work... There's a review video that will cover it quicker for you.
@11:25 a formula given is ARR=1-RR. But according to Firstaid, it is RRR=1-RR
Thank you so much for uploading these amazing Biostat videos. I'm so grateful for all your time and work. They really helped me.
Ioana, Thank you for commenting.
Thank you so much Dr Neil! You are a GREAT teacher!
Thank you. Humbled.
I am so grateful to have found your Biostats videos! Thank you so much! I would really appreciate a video on genetics (inheritance) . Those pedigree questions are killing me .
Erik, Thanks for the feedback. I was actually looking at the old Genetics material... I will put something together. Stay tuned...
Randy Neil, MD thank you!!!
You are Biostats King. Prayers for y
Ceph-azolin, Thank you for the comment... Send some problems and we'll see if we can do them...
@@RandyNeilMD Sure Dr. Ryan I ll extract the Q's and will send on ur email ID. Ty once again
LOVE the way how you make Biostats seem so easy 👍🏻👍🏻 Kindly make more videos like these.
Sarah, Thank you for the feedback... I will try to come up with something. Trying to get something with drug ads.
Dr Neil"s explanation for biostat is awesome
TK, Thank you for the confidence. Glad it was helpful.
you are the best teacher ever .Thank you Dr Neil.God bless you
Thank you for such a kind comment
Great learning with you. Amazing tips. Thank you!!
You are welcome Hassan.
1st year med student and have an exam on Thursday. U are the best for biostats!!! THANK YOU !!!
Appreciate the comment. Good luck on the exam...!!
i am so happy this channel exists.
Thank you for the vote of confidence
In 11:24 it should be RRR = 1-RR. ARR = ER(controlled) - ER(treatment)?
Thankyou so much Dr Randy your methodology is amazing , looking forward to more videos this really helped me.
Thank you for the feedback
You are Biostats King! God Bless you
Thank you
Always thank you, I do really appreciate all those efforts done for free..
Xaaboo, As long as you tell mw it is helpful...I'll keep making videos.
Randy Neil, MD, sir, they’re indispensable! Thank you!
Thank you for making these videos. You are a life saver. Please make some more videos on General Pharmacology Principles with questions. Where can I get those Laminated notes.
Thanks, your Biostat videos are amazing.
DDoM, Thank you for the feedback...
Thanks you so much for starting this series again.
I have trouble with likelihood ratios, can you talk about that in the next video pls.
Thanks so much!
We can re-look at that... I do believe at 3:15 mark of the BIOSTATS II video reviews the concept, but I'll see if we can review.
@Randy Neil, MD Doc towards the end of the video i dont think ARR = 1-RR , ARR is Effects related to control - Effects related to treatment
You have no idea how many times I have watched and rewatched your biostats reviews and shared it with all my classmates. They are wonderful. Not that the subject is tough but you give us tips and tricks for quick problem solving during the exam! I definitely follow your method to the T
Tina, Glad it's helpful... The good news it that BIOSTATS shouldn't changes like some of the other topics evolve with newer meds/diseases etc...
Those videos are amazing; you made them so easy
thank you for sharing
Thank you Anisa for the kind words.
Thank you so much! Topics about Attributable risk, Absolute risk reduction. Thx in advance.
I think the 2nd video we have covers the ARR... ARR = 1 - RR type of stuff. If it's not there, let me know.
Thanks Dr neil
You are most welcome.
Thankyou so much doc
Why we subtracted .032 from .8 @13:40
Great video! But would it be possible to fix the volume?
U r an awesome teacher, u made biostat feel so easy
PERFECT!!
could you please share those notes you showed at the end of the video somehow? those look incredibly helpful at a glance
Thank you, it’s really helped me.
Malohat, Glad it was helpful. Keep Studying HARD!!!
Best video for usmle step 1 sir
Thank you.
any way we can gain acess to the genetic and psychiatry notes you've made?
biostats helped a lot! big thanks!!!
Have you thought about selling those laminated notes online or make it accessible as a pdf ?
thank you so much for simplifying biostatistics.do you have any video on biochemistry.thanks
Lanre, I do plan to do some BIOCHEMISTRY... Just need a little more time.
Could you post your notes somewhere? Ideally in the next few hours, I take Step 1 tomorrow and I intend on stopping at 5pm
Hi Dr. Randy thanks a lot for all information , please can you send me your laminated sheet copy?
thank you for the video
You are most welcome.
How can we work the last problem with the equation for ARR
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. My step 1 is on 13th july. Can you please do a video on hypothesis testing? I will be grateful. Thank you. Bless you!!!
Zlatan, You mean Null Hypothesis? The very first video... should have the NULL and the mot common problem you will encounter. Take a look and if it's something else you had in mind, just let me know...
@@RandyNeilMD Yes sir. I watched that video. It did help me but i still have issue when i try to apply it in questions. If you can make a new video with few questions regarding null hypothesis, iwill be grateful. Thank you once again.
It says reduce the reduction by at least 40% not by less then 40%. As long as you are at 40% or less it will be accepted. Seems like 3.2% is the right answer since that is 40% of .o8
yes.... please help us...confidence interval and hypothesis , p value= ? meaning...vs alpha=? or p value = alpha...please help us understand the p value so that we can pick the correct answer choice.....
Doctor could you please share your mnemonics for genetic diseases (AR AD X linked recessive). I saw it in one of your laminated sheets
I'm hoping they are uploaded to website... If not, let me know.
I got confused in the last one, having 3.2% incidence is better than 4%? Or did I not understand the question :)
how can we get these sheets? can you link them somewhere? please and thank you
Where can we get the sheets???
Dr.Randy Thank you so much again. how is it possible to get those sheets that would be great
Arsenal, Glad is was helpful. You can email me at randy.neil8@gmail.com or www.coastalmdlive.com on the website. Glad it was helpful
Thanks doctor ,,,, The last question , the answer 4.8 would be the 60 percent reduction and logically 3.2 is the right answer… please correct me if i am wrong….
I had the same thinking but notice it says, reduction by 40% = reduction to 60% = it means you subtract the 40% of the total from the total
Q) In a case-control study. 100 men who have bladder cancer were compared with 100 controls Cases and controls were asked about their alcohol consumption The investigators calculated an odds ratio of 3.0, the 95% confidence interval was 1.8 to 6.6 for the association of bladder cancer and alcohol consumption. Which of the following is the most appropriate interpretation of this result?
A) Atleast 5ol the bladder cancers can be attributed te consumption of alcohol
B) Aleast-5% of consumers of alcohol will develop cancer of the bladder
C) The likelihood is 95% that the true value for the odds ratio is between 1.8 and 6.6
D)There is atleast a 5% increased risk for bladder cancer among consumers of alcohol
E ) Men who-drink alcohol are 5 times more likely to develop bladder cancer than those do not drink alcohol
F) There is a 95% chance that the true odds ratio is 3.0
Q.)A research group conducted a placebo-controlled clinical trial to assess whether a new drug to treat acute migraine with or without aura in adults is more effective than standard therapy A total of 3,500 patients with acute migraine were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to either the new drug or standard treatment During the data analysis phase, the researchers decide to set alpha at 0.01 rather than 0.05. Which of the following is the most likely result of this change?
A) Any significant findings will be reported with greater confidence
B. There will be a higher probability of a type 1 error
C There will be a higher probability of finding statistically significant results
D. There will be a lower probability of a type II error
E The study will have more statistical power
I have this doubts , would be happy if u could help me out.
Where or how can I get those notes? 📝 thanks 😊
Can u use the formula to answer the last question. Pls
Isnt it 0.08 in the last question? Why are you subtracting 0.32 from 0.8? Where did 0.8% come from? Can you please explain Sir?
is it possible for us to have your notes?
I have a question regarding the incidence rate question
in the Second question, Why Secondary prevention isn't right too? if we decreased the screening for a disease we will decrease the incident i.e. no new cases are reported :)
When I read the problem, I feel that they tell us its a "chronic disease" for a purpose and therefore the Secondary screening wouldn't necessarily prevent new cases (as it would be too late)...It would potentially decrease mortality or prevent it turning into "full fledged" disease state, but I suspect the term Chronic implies it could be in early stages. That's why Primary would be the best choice. I hope this makes sense...
@@RandyNeilMD thank you !!!
I still can't understand the last question. Can someone explain plz
for some reason the sheets in the end made me cry 😇
Awww... I may just go ahead and tell them to put my STEP 1 Book and those laminated sheets in my Coffin... Been through too much together... :)
i still not get the question at 14 min
These questions such as PPV takes more than 2 min to solve that will eat up so much time on the exam. these are not quick questions?
Watched
COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE LAST PROBLEM..ANYNE?
Yeah same
psychiatric looks tough for me
Nah... easiest topic and job there is...
@@RandyNeilMD pls guide us abt experimental questions usmle step 1. Is is true that u ll be tested on 250 questions. remaining 30 will be experimental. Pls guide or make a video.:)
