I am a Christian and I agree, more media dealing with Christianity shouldn’t shy away from the darker aspects of it like this anime and The Prince of Egypt. The Prince of Egypt was so good because you didn’t feel like you were being talked down to or shielded from the dark parts of the story which made a really good movie. But yeah, being crucified is one of the worst ways to die.

to add to prince of egypt, the film works so well why others fail is because they don't treat it as a story from THE BIBLE but instead as the STORY from the bible. the bible does have a lot of interesting stories to tell regardless of religion, as well as faith can be an intersting thematic aspect to storytelling, but a lot of christian media tend to over focus on it being from the bible/christianity rather than the story it tells. I think that's also why og vegitales worked, you didn't have to be christian to enjoy it because it had great writing and fun characters

    • @Yipper64
      @Yipper64 11 месяцев назад

im honestly very disappointed in Christians when it comes to the entertainment industry in general. Like here's the thing, storytelling is essentially making a moral argument right? And if correct and true morality comes from God, then that means that secular media either provides an incorrect moral message or has to "steal" its moral message from Christianity. Luckily they "steal" more than providing incorrect morals, but there is a mix... Point is, why cant the people who get their morals from the source make good media?
I know its because most christian themed media isnt necessarily made by Christians, but it still sucks.

@@fotzegamingandmedia1840Yes, Catholics and East Orthodox venerate saints, or important and significant people in the Bible and post-crucifixion who would otherwise be forgotten by the faith and not set a great example of true devotion or admiration. Many will misinterpret this as Saberspark said "If I repent when I'm about to die, I'll go to heaven", but that's not what the story is implying, it was about two thieves who mocked Jesus at their execution, only one of them recognized Christ's divinity and repented with a fearful and contrite heart. It goes to show the forgiveness of Christ who both forgave His executors and one of the thieves, which the other one mocked and went to hell.

      Krishna,
      Glycon
      Romulus
      Mithra
      Attis

@@justinpartogi It's really weird to me that you're so upset over accusing me of something you yourself are doing. You're saying I'm wrong without citing anything that contradicts my claim- your only argument is that "I'm wrong" and you just claim Krishna came after jesus without any evidence other than just saying that he did.
According to the Heliodorus Column (erected in 113 BCE) the hindu faith (vasishnavism) and the mention of both vishnu and krishna predated christianity by around 200 years, there's evidence to speculate that vasishnavism was practiced for possibly thousands of years before chrisitanity based on excavations of Harrappa and Mohenjo-daro and other ancient sites. according to the Itihasa texts krishna's birthday is supposedly the 27th of July 3112 BCE but I've seen other dates from 3228 BCE to 3102 BCE and so on because the Mahabharata and Harivamsa contradict each other on when he was born-all of which are before the birth of jesus which ranges from 6 BCE to 4 BCE, however, much like with every mythological figure there's no definitive date. So, if that's the case, how can someone born in 3112 BCE "come after" someone born in 4 BCE?

You're sitting there getting all worked up like I'm saying christianity stole from these religions (technically speaking catholicism did appropriate many "pegan" religions into their mythos as a means of converting them to christianity- I hope we're not going to ignore that obvious notion) when that's not my point. My point was that jesus wasn't original (the idea of jesus wasn't original)- it's not that OTHER gods parallel his story it's that HE parallels the stories of other gods and thus you can't really make the claim: "To be fair, Jesus was the first anime protagonist" even as a joke especially with the criteria listed in OP's comment. Not to mention shintoism (a religion formally founded in 300 BCE but can be traced back even further making it older than jesus- I'm seeing a pattern here) had been a heavy influence on Anime- if anything, gods like Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, Takemikazuchi, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, or Ryujin would be more fitting to be considered the first Anime protagonist- you know, because they originate from Japan... (source-www.worldhistory.org/Shinto/)
Onto your comment about "mithrs" I'm assuming you meant Mithra. You make the claim that Mithra "came after" jesus- again you don't cite any sources that validate that statement after blowing up on me about how I wasn't providing any evidence you just say that mithra "came after" jesus and I'm just suppose to take your word for it. I can understand why you're confused when the only source you have is yourself anything to the contrary is "confusing" there is sufficient evidence that methraic worship dates as far back as 50 BCE- the Kerch plaques depict what can be interpreted as mithras holding a knife over a bull as he had been depicted in other stone work that was continually being made through to 141 CE. The Greek biographer, Plutarch, witnessed the pirates of Cilicia engage in methraic rituals in 68 BCE. I couldn't find an exact date as to when mithra was born all I got was December 25th but it's safe to say if this guy was being worshiped by people as far back as 68 BCE and, again, jesus was supposedly born in 6-4 BCE how did you come to the conclusion that mithra "came after" jesus when people were worshiping mithra before jesus was even born?
      SOURCE
      History of mthraic worship- www.tertullian.org/rpearse/mithras/display.php?page=History
The fact of the matter is all these mythical figures parallel each other because that's how mythology works. Religion is a part of culture and that culture gets spread around so when new cultures form they get inspired by what others deem to be "special" there are litterally millions- billions of cultures, and by extension religions, that have formed throughout human history, most are thousands of years older than chrisitanity it's no surprise that you're gonna see what looks like copy and paste because these things have been a staple of so many other gods. jesus isn't special, deal with it.

2:49 In a standard crucifixion, the victim would (usually) pass from suffocation. Basically, the muscles they're using to support their weight are also muscles that they need to breathe, so eventually they would get so tired that they couldn't even take a breath and, very, _very_ slowly, suffocate. (This is also a problem for people into the kinkier types of sex: If you're going to tie someone up in a suspension, you need to make sure they're supported by something other than their arms, or they could suffocate.) Breaking the victim's legs isn't a normal part of crucifixion, it was done so He'd hurry up and die. The crucifixion occurred on a Friday, you couldn't touch the deceased on the Sabbath (Saturday) or you'd be unclean, so they wanted Him to get on with it so they could chuck the body into a tomb before the Sabbath started.

One of the best adaptations of Jesus' story right here, particularly of Luke 23 (the Gospel where Jesus promised the repentant criminal he'd be in paradise). It's not the first Bible anime though, besides Bagi, Osamu Tezuka himself actually did do a Bible anime at one point (despite him being agnostic); it only covered up to Jesus' birth though. Even Yoshikazu Yasuhiko of Gundam fame did a manga called _Jesus_ from the perspective of one of the other criminals (and was an Amuro Ray lookalike).
Another great ✝animated film that exists also is _The Miracle Maker,_ which has both stop-motion and 2D animation (just bought that film on DVD today), and the same animators of that film also made stop motion versions of the stories of Abraham, Joseph and Ruth in a series called "Testament - The Bible in Animation" (sadly though, the actress who played Ruth turned out to be not so nice). That series is proof that good Christian media, including animated ones, does exist, although you do have to look for it.

As a Christian i get that its hard to make good media representatations of the Bible and do the belief justice. I try to make Christian music and thats rough. And thats easier than a show or movie about the stuff. And i think this does a good job at that portraying just how much Jesus went through for us

I too grew up Christian watching “appropriate” media. Except my shows were in the 80s and early 90s. Most of it is not anything I’d remember fondly, except, without a doubt, is Superbook (and The Flying House made by the same group featuring a similar cast and plot). Christian time travel anime with robots and magic bibles and plucky young heroes! If you haven’t seen it I unironically recommend you check it out ❤

What makes the crucifixion so horrifying is the nails, like back in the day they were HUGE like the size of a full adult hand and how long is it.................the size of a FULL POPSICLE STICK!! That's why it takes many hits to pierce it.

There's a really cool anime called Drifters where Jesus is the main villain but you can still see the positive influence he has within the evil faction, though it is still the evil faction so the influence is still a bit twisted, anyway point is I highly recommend Drifters for cool Jesus and other such historical sequels for people like Joan of Arc, Napoleon, the funny moustache man, Johnny Appleseed and a whole host of samurais because this is still an anime.

This is interesting not only because it is an anime depiction of the crucifixion, but because it taps on the most deep and important meaning of what Jesus came to earth to do. And just to add on the crusades thing, those were in principle a very valid response to Muslim conquest, it was necessary.

Frankly, I would love to see more anime adaptations of Bible stories; make them mini-series if they want with the same studio behind this short
Even though I’m a practicing Buddhist, I wouldn’t mind seeing more stuff like this; don’t sugar coat the stories and have some great animation from Japan
(Also, that would explain why Berserk is freaking amazing; it’s because one of the studios who did one of the anime adaptations was commissioned by God and God saw Berserk and was like “Awesome, this shall be the greatest anime and manga series of all time”; maybe one day we will finally get that coveted perfect Berserk anime series to rival the 97 one)
