Never mind I got further into the video and heard the taunt call out against the gunners after the three boss section! So that’s awesome!
Mk3b is the best and its mid at best which is to say bad compared to any non-ogryn weapon. You're best using karsolas or shield. Ogryn weapons need buffs.
I have always tought that people severly underestimate just how TANKY you can make ogryn with the right talents etc and actually being good at the class. Regularly run a meme pure middle tree + bleed build shieldgryn into the hardest difficulties (before havoc, been to busy to get into the new system properly yet). Also the amount of CC ogryns have from just basic attacks with no cooldown or anything is unmatched by any other class, and CC straight up wins runs since usually being overwhelmed is what gets you killed (and disablers).
Ogryn is a very weird class to play. He's got such highs and lows. A lot of people complain about his survivability into shooters especially in havoc and that was a major problem for him which we fixed the same way you fix that in auric - aggression. But in havoc it really requires some serious teamwork and I don't think that speaks well to ogryn's state in Havoc. FnP really helps though I'll be putting it to the test later. The CC and damage output he can do in melee is a big part of his highs and lows. He's insanely rewarding in aggressive melee and extremely punished for not being in melee. Which is a little wrong.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Indeed, you are generally slower and have a massive hitbox so if you missplay and put yourself in a bad spot against gunners as a melee focus ogryn without a taunt block slab shield you are in trouble. Forces a much more deliberate and meassured playstyle and requires you to have good situational awareness. Agressive ogryn play without shield requires analyzing the enemies ahead (gunners mostly) and maximising cover usage on approach, otherwise you get rinsed unless you have a good team that deals with those for you. Kickback is still REALLY good for killing disablers and gunners even at medium range (and stagger/knock down if not kill). Gungryn can be incredebly powerfull but it does nomnom a lot of the ammo so ammo vet and/or non/low ammo users like psyker are required for the team composition. Ogryn is maybe the least versatile class in that you have to either commit to melee or range to be strong, but doing so makes you VERY strong in that particular area and thus you need your team to complement your weakness.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Power maul certainly didn't give you an advantage. Miniscule CC that can be filled in by base kit, no damage and no ability to block ranged damage. A lot of havoc 40 is down to ranged enemies spawn RNG. This particular run wasn't exactly lucky, but i've had it worse on this map. There's too many variables at play, so it's difficult to pass a hard judgement, but quad shield setup is definitely the highest win chance you can get playing like this. Not to imply anything, but i don't know how much practice you four have with it. It's simple, but it does require a good bit of practice to mix blocking and dodging properly to walk into and disrupt gunners, even without using bullrush. Responding to incoming fire fast and attacking from avenues where you're not surrounded with ranged damage matters a lot, too. I was able to become VASTLY more efficient with shield on havoc 40 with some practice. I do have pubbies putting down bubbles and relicing for me, but even in this situation the ability to block ranged damage would have had the highest value.
@@deadspicy2557 If you're solo building ogryn shield or pickaxe is absolutely the play. However power maul is not a miniscule CC, as evidenced in the footage I showed off at the beginning. It was extremely noticable when I swapped to it compared to how we were forced to handle density before. It slowed everything down and gave the other players space to chunk the enemy down. I don't know how much damage shield does compared to pickaxe but getting DPS gated was one of the problems we ran into when we ran double shield double pickaxe. Getting gated by overwhelm was another. Double pickaxe, single shield, single maul provided the best distribution of utilities. The suppression radius from empowered strikes was also important for keeping gunners from creating new lanes of fire immediately after stagger ended. I am not a huge fan of the PMaul at all. I think it blows. But it served a specific purpose in this 4 stack that was valuable and every game I took it compared to an alternative weapon also experienced that direct advantage. It also helps filter chaff from big boys when moving backwards allowing more targeted kills on bigger threats and can open bulwarks every swing. Its not that I think I'm more experienced than you at ogryn, its that this 4 stack run benefited specifically from filling this niche and we experimented a lot to arrive at this composition.
@Reginald-sc9tk Fair point. Most of this probably applies to this particular challenge, since you take rocks instead of boxes or nukes because you can't use ranged weapons. Pickaxe and bully club outdamages shield by around 300k over the course of the match. I have met two good ogryns on 40 havoc. One went with pick, the other used club. I haven't looked at their build, so i can't know for sure what they were running. They might have had heavy hitter, which would allow them to get that 300k on me. They received much more damage than i did, though. I finished the matches with around 300 damage taken on average, and they had around 1.5k damage taken, i even had to clutch them a couple of times. I'd like to say that getting feel no pain would allow them to still outdamage shield and remain more durable at that, but i simply don't know what keystones they were running. If you're getting strong overtoughness and/or bubble coverage, pickaxe with heavy hitter is definitely more valuable than shield.
My opinion on ogryn is still that a lot of people play him wrong and thats where about half the complaints come from. But I also think that he's underpowered and overexposed. His action economy is bad and he lacks the ogrynness people expect.
@@U.U-lw4ee I think gold toughness is bad for balance and should be heavily adjusted. But I'd take toughness DR on cast as a built in for the team. Taunt could use some things to make it more interesting.
@@Aalienik Its hard to explain with precision. But a lot of it is a lack of aggression at the right times into the right enemies. Ogryn is heavily punished for mistakes, but go look at the first engagement into that huge gunner ball at the beginning of the ogryn run. Our aggression allows us to shut everything down and start clearing. My mistake costs me half my HP. If I was playing zealot there I would have taken 0 damage for that play. So Ogryn does need buffs. But I see a lot of ogryns in general auric games either hang back to try and shoot it out or try to rush that kind of threat down well after the enemy is already looking at them. Ironically Ogryn has to try and thread the needle of enemy attention and rush from unexpected angles. But once he's in melee he flattens.
