It never ceases to amaze me how your videos are pretty much perfect. There rarely is ever an occurrence where I think to myself, "Hey I need some more relevant information regarding the equipment/topic that Caleb is covering" or ""Gee I wish there were some better angles for me to see what Caleb is talking about" or "Darn it, I like Caleb's videos if only they were prettier. If only they were more aesthetically pleasing visually!". Can't say that's ever been "a thing" in your videos Caleb, and for that I think you win the internet. I've watched and subbed to your channel for many years now and you are the first channel I recommend to people who ask me for suggestions. You are a consummate professional and I appreciate all that you've done.
Great video and I've been binge watching other videos of yours about lighting, so interesting. I couldn't find the video, but it one you mentioned a light you use for your orange background. Please what is it?
An alternative to the sand bags are used automotive brake disks. These are heavy cast iron disks with a nice big hole in the middle. You can probably get these for free from any brake repair shop. Just ask. Look for larger disks from pickup trucks, SUVs or minivans. I cleaned mine up and spray painted them black. You need to feed the vertical tube of the sand through the disks when assembling the sand. Need more weight, add more disks. Lots of weight for free.
funny rnough, when you said sorry about the audio it was actually refreshing to hear a not so bassy low end voice for a moment haha.. both sounded great! Inovative idea!
A few years back able to purchase an Avenger stand from a business that closed for next to nothing. I'm going to use your sandbag build! thanks for sharing!
Yeah, love the whole thing! At my studio we put a few used ankle weights around the bottoms of the uprights of roller stands. (Depending on the weight of your softbox)
The way I like to balance a light stand setup is to have one leg of the stand pointing directly under the light you are over hanging. That way you have a greater distance of leg extension under the lamp as apposed to hanging the lamp between two legs pointing out. I also prefer the weight of the sandbags to not be directly under the lamp but more balance away from the centre to counter it's weight..
Hi Caleb! Are you planning to do a review video and rank of the best 2023/2024 best LED lights under 300$, 500$, etc? I miss those videos. Just wondering if the industry has changed during the last 2 years
Hey Caleb, I ve watched a couple of Videos of you now, thank you very much at first! I am in a sad Situation :D I just got my Amaran 200x and Aputure 300x. Both are great (dislike a lot I dont have a remote control for the amaran nor can I control it with the remote of the 300x, but I totally love them). There is only one issue: Both have almost the same output. Are there differences? Yes lots of, do I want to keep the Pro Versio instead of getting annother 200x? Yes for sure. But I am about to give it back and get the 300d II instead. Which drives me to...uff dont know I think I need a "I would do this" Instead of a clear answer. I have a 150W LS Neewer light. Wanted light (silent) like it in Bi Color and a stronger version. Now I have three lights with the same output to be honest. I do think the 300d II helps me more often when needing just more light, in comparison to flexibility. In terms of gels I am not familiar....like if its another 150bucks it makes no sense and I dont know how to use them on a 85cm softbox since I just dont find any online. Lots of questions but you understand that struggle for sure :D Before I bought it I was like: Yes Bi color...now I am like...do I really need it? My Purposes are: Interviews and Light settings (mainly indoors) such as image films Many thanks in Advance!
Love this! Want to personally thank you for all your work; it helped me just to start creating this year and hopefully will continue! This will be my next thing to buy on my wish list👏🏻
Love the offset idea. At my studio we use a few 10lb counterweights on baby roller stands like this instead of fussing with sand. They're only slightly more expensive (if you go with impact instead of manfrotto), but they're a lot faster and tidier to set up
Shouldn’t the weight go on the side opposite the hanging softbox, hence it’s counter...why does he suggest the light hanging directly over the sandbags?
@@mKruter Physics. If the sandbags go the opposite direction there’s less force fighting against gravity pulling the light down in the direction it’s hanging. Im explaining this badly, but the short answer is physics and leverage.
@@AlexMinor I'm aware its physics, as opposed to chemistry, biology or history. But it still does not make sense to me. Typically, using the principles of counterbalance, the counterweight should be on the opposed side of the pivot from the load. @dslrvideoshooter please weight in (see what I did there??)
Hey Caleb…. i was just wondering what - in your experience - is the most powerful key light that can be powered by batteries? Is it the Aputure 600D? Or is there a light that is actually more powerful/has higher output and is still battery operated?
Is there a suitable replacement for the offset arm? I love that idea but everywhere is sold out, including kupo which doesn’t even show it on the site.
I love the video thanks a lot! I was hoping you can give some tips on lighting and tools I need to shot a video as professional spokesperson . I am starting to do spokesperson video but i have no ideia what I need to set my studio . So if you can please give some tip what I need to shot a nice video, with different background color - it will be awesome!! Thanks
You sure your surname isn't MacGyver? Lol! ;) Another great gear build, Caleb! Keep up the great work...always love your videos! Best wishes from Scotland! :)
If I want to record with Mic / Camera where do I plug the mic if it’s USB , I don’t have a camera / mic yet but does it go into the camera or PC and then just add it onto the video recorded from the camera
One day someone will come up with the idea of a weighted sleeve that will fit the legs of a light / audio stand, and will slide onto the legs when the foot / castor is removed (and replaced afterwards). Maybe, as a second option, somebody will suggest using a barbell disc weight and dropping it down the upright post and letting it rest on the legs of the stand. Last suggestion....maybe a triangular sandbag could be built for the stand legs that form triangles with the upright. Now, who is this MacGyver guy that everyone speaks of (rhetorical - I grew up watching the original series)?
I’d recommend against using sandbags and if you don’t want to have to pay ridiculous shipping on bags you just buy the bags themselves without any filling and then go to your local sports store and buy several cans of BBs or even some other source of steel shot and use that to fill your bags. I’m sorry but sand…It’s just a bad idea because it eventually leaks out gets all over your gear gets in your car, just don’t use sandbags
I buy a 50lb bag of quick create sand from Home Depot for $5 and full zip lock bags and weigh them out, then pop them into my empty bags and boom, sandbags for cheep
@@Gavinnations That sounds like a plan too. I just don't like sand anywhere near my gear, but also many of those zip lock bags break down over time unless you get really heavy duty ones. BB's are definitely a lot more expensive.
holy, i nevver knew how much audio affected a viewing experience, that one clip with bad audio compared tot he video is night and day! wow was the gain too high?
There is only one Caleb and he's so AWESOME - love the ideas and how it's DIY fun but professional level practicality.

Immediately ordering the velcro straps--the weighting part of this video just saved me so much headache with my rolling c-stand!
This is still the OG, GOAT videocentric RUclips channel! No clickbait; no "pwwwatsaawp fam" bs; just real good information.
Love all these build videos from you Caleb. Saves so much trial and error and goes to show that the hollywood way is not always the best way.
This was fire Caleb! 🔥
This channel brings together photographers and RUclipsrs from the whole world.
Great video and I've been binge watching other videos of yours about lighting, so interesting. I couldn't find the video, but it one you mentioned a light you use for your orange background. Please what is it?
The 44 inch Parasnap softbox has been a game changer for me. It's much easier to set up and take down then a normal softbox. Very cool build idea!
Agreed!
I actually prefer my older Parapop 38” softbox.
Thank you. I've watched this video already a couple of times and every time I learn something new. Thank you!

Nice idea, I never thought about this...
Our studio is right next to several car shops. Will ask about this!
Outstanding stands as always!
Thanks Tom!!!

Great setup!
Thank you! and I am going to say you are 100p from the midwest. Im from IL and I hear a midwest accent!
I like those a LOT, Caleb! I think I'll build one! Thank you!
Nice. I’ve been struggling with space so this set up works and I can go back to shooting in my kitchen instead of my garage. Thanks.
A few years back able to purchase an Avenger stand from a business that closed for next to nothing. I'm going to use your sandbag build! thanks for sharing!
caleb with another one... GOAT
You build the coolest friggin’ rigs!!!
Yeah, love the whole thing! At my studio we put a few used ankle weights around the bottoms of the uprights of roller stands. (Depending on the weight of your softbox)
Super vid! I know a lot about studio setups but I'll pick these tips for my new home studio!
GREAT video as always, Caleb!
Thanks Bro!
That offset arm looks funky! I want one. Or two. Or a hundred
Great inspirational video Caleb! Thanks.
Been following you for 10 years now man. Great content - as always 😇
Always love the setups you bring to the table Caleb!
Nice video! May have to grab those Kupo arms as well 👌
Except they'll never be in stock ever again thanks to you, haha.
Excellent. I will use the idea for teaching my journalism students.
I like the black fabric for negative fill, brilliant!!
Exactly the video I have been looking for.

Thanks Marius! Means a lot man!

Wow, this is pretty damn slick Caleb! Nice work.

Hey Caleb! Thanks for the video. Review suggestion(s): Yolobox Mini/Pro & iFootage Anglerfish SL series lights?
love your videos and all your DIY builds! Thank you for the ideas!

Great one! Thank u 🧡
This light stand looks perfect. The small footprint is wild. How durable are those legs with the casters if you need to travel with them?
Just made one - life changing
Love the setup, but more importantly.....Where can I find that rolling table at 0:39? Thanks in advance 😉
Hi. Now I only trust you to buy some gear. Thank you for your hard work and help
Amazing video. It's look like Netflix or prime V documentary. 👏

well done, Caleb!
MORE LIGHTING VIDEOS!!!!
Always great content! Thanks for sharing!
Love your ideas man
always great ideas and informative videos. thanks for sharing.
Is there a suitable replacement for the offset arm? I love that idea but everywhere is sold out, including kupo which doesn’t even show it on the site.
The Macgyver of rigs strikes again!
-Will
Hey Caleb! Where did you get those cool 3D white camera models at :52? I love them!
Amazing, love it, thank you!
Hey Caleb, seems like you lost some weight and got in shape. Great job!
Such great info provided here. Thanks for sharing my man!
hey new dslr video shooter video just dropped
Hello Caleb! Do you have any videos on the Tascam X8? Thank you
Good stuff. Thanks.
Caleb! Can you do one with the Vari Impact poles for ceiling rigs?
I love the video thanks a lot! I was hoping you can give some tips on lighting and tools I need to shot a video as professional spokesperson . Hi love your videos will this set up work with the Amazon 60 d?
Impact is fine, but it's worth clarifying, it is owned by b&h.
That Kupo Off-Set Female Baby Mounting Adapter - Kino Adapter is unavailable everywhere! Guess you guys beat me to it 😅
If you don’t mind me asking , what V mount battery are you using with your 300d?
Is it legal for you to use a not-orange photo for the thumbnail?
Great video👍 Q. Sony ZV-E10 will Sony update the sensor & stabilization anytime soon, what's your thoughts? thx
You sure your surname isn't MacGyver? Lol! ;) Another great gear build, Caleb! Keep up the great work...always love your videos! Best wishes from Scotland! :)
Why not paint the back of the negative fill board matte black? Too reflective? Cloth will absorb the light better?
Great tip with the Velcro. I had been using zip ties but the bags keep slipping off onto the floor. Thanks Caleb!
How did you make the light orange when you compared the no fill, fill…
Thank you !!
Does right angle baby pin works also ?
If I want to record with Mic / Camera where do I plug the mic if it’s USB , I don’t have a camera / mic yet but does it go into the camera or PC and then just add it onto the video recorded from the camera
This is great!! Thanks!
It's look like a Netflix light documentary itw
Félicitations 🎉
I'd probably use bungees instead of the velcro straps.
Building this with the G200.

I bought some vflats but this is cool and cheaper
thanks you
We all love Phill, negative Phill not so much. The Phill Board is the right amount of Phils 😉 We all like to know more about Phill. 😂
I bought the $900 NTG3. How do I get my audio to sound like his?
awesome
1:17 “By the way, no one is sponsoring this video.”
3:32: “I just went with Impact, not because they’re sponsoring this video, but…”
lol

The Aputure 120D has been discontinued by Aputure. The 200D or 200X would be a more than reasonable alternative.
You forgot to mention you need a speedring in the part list. Impact softbox does not come with one.
So... I'm watching in 4k on my 4.5k iMac and I'm looking at your walls and there's tons of banding. How could I have that NOT happen in my videos?
Pity that the Offset Arm and the 2nd part are not in stock 😔
Those offset arms are much easier to deal with than a 1m extension arm. Thanks for the video.
😍
holy, i nevver knew how much audio affected a viewing experience, that one clip with bad audio compared tot he video is night and day! wow was the gain too high?
goes to show, even the best of them have some technical difficulties once in awhile (audio)
