Thanks for the detailed explanations, really helped me to understand and negotiate roundabouts , Delighted to say I Passed with just 5 minors yesterday.
Extremely helpful to understand the roundabouts. Anyway I don't care about any background stuff, because this guy explained in the best way. Thumbs up. Thank you .
I like how the text-to-speech engine had to clear its throat at 04:34. You could have just spoken yourself instead of using a TTS engine. A TTS engine makes it less easy to follow. Also, it would be great to see a video on negotiating roundabouts that are 3-exit, 5- or 6-exit roundabouts with varying numbers of lanes. This is what trips people up because they're not at all at described in this video.
This video is a breath of fresh air. Trying to explain to people to go straight on you use the left hand lane is frustrating. People in my town use the right lane so they can cut across then indicate left to come off meanwhile there's someone on the left going straight on who they are cutting up
this has really helped me a fair my test today on a roundabout am gutted..but got cancellation for 2 weeks away.. after watching this video it's help me a lot thanks
Make sure you don't cut people up on the roundabout from the left. Once in lane for your exit . Stay in it. Many a time someone barges across in my path on a roundabout in Swindon where my lane splits into two. There lane is dotted to begin with then solid stripes to head to the 12 o'clock exit. But they shove in to go right instead !
@@melissanewton4587 When you're in the left lane and you're going straight ahead do you signal? How come in the video he goes straight ahead, and uses the signal after the first exit, yet at the end, he says "no signal for going left, except at first exit" didn't he use the left signal straight ahead?
That is a brilliant explanation of roundabouts - the point that past 12o'clock you have to move into the right lane. Up till now I've had trouble with it sinking in. Thanks a million.
Very clear! I have done this roundabout from different entries. This video makes it so simple and all the points where the indicators have to be switched on/off and left / right are mentioned, which is important.
Hi Eastend Driving School, thanks for such an information video. It has immensely helped while my driving test today and I passed with 2 minors only. Thank you again...
This was quite informative. We don't have any roundabouts here where I live in Canada, and I encountered some in Euro truck simulator, and I was just utterly confused at what to do - being a game, I just rushed it to the right road i needed to be in, but I do someday want to drive to places where there might be a roundabout, so it's good to be informed.
Pedestrian 'kindergarten' intro to how to do it. Not sure I like the text-to-speech explanation but it ticks (almost all) the right boxes. The cross-roads analogy is excellent. This takes 7 minutes to explain one diagram in the Highway Code - but strangely I like it..... the animation is clear and clever. Where did you get the software? For further development, I would add one or two 'advanced driving' tips: 1. 'less is more" - if you hold back from traffic ahead and take it slow, you get more time to look for 'your' gap and will be able to take it more easily with a clearer view and with a greater safety margin in case the driver ahead hesitates, yet probably quicker than if you'd driven up to the line and stopped. Well done - I'll be posting a lot of stuff from 'live' situations on the 'How to' playlist of my channel soon.
Nice to see a driving tutorial for the proper side of the road for a change. Most I come across are tutorials on how to drive on the wrong side of the road.
Hi Eastend - good explanation of roundabouts. I especially like the "clock" model in combination of thinking of a roundabout like a conventional intersection - that is a good teaching technique for students. One question - is the head checks (shoulder checks) missing as part of the sequence? How do drivers check their blind spots, especially when they're crossing lanes of traffic? Thanks for the video, Cheers Rick
Check bs if you're in doubt or if you lost track of something. Like you saw a bike then it disappeared. Checking mirrors on time with awareness is important. If it's safe to do so check over your shoulder.
In my part of the US they are just adding these--called traffic circles--and those encountering them for the first time tend to go straight across the middle. One of those people drove straight into a house. Others assume, "fastest car has the right of way." In Massachusetts roundabouts--called "rotaries" there--have been in place since the advent of the motor car or before, but until recently the legal right of way belonged to the traffic entering the roundabout, not to those exiting. In heavy traffic you could only exit the roundabout illegally.
Fantastic. v nice .can you plz upload more videos about starting , stopping, 3 point trun, parking, motorway n stuff plz plz plz I love your style of teaching many thanks
It was really good of eastend driving school to make this animation tutorial video of roundabout for new road users . Please add a thin line attaching from the right hand land to the inner lane of the roundabout next time .
In my home town the traffic dirrection is on the right not on the left, and I'm well aware not every country used the right as traffic dirrection. This is why round about in my home town are counter clockwise because the traffic dirrection is on the right. I know a left turn in a left dirrected traffic is equal to a right turn on the right directed traffic.
I am American, I just followed what everyone else did , until i was 1st in the line then i was screwed, so i just went around the traffic circle in the inside, turns out i was correct YAY!!
In UK South or any major city make sure you know which exit you will be taking before getting to the roundabout, especially if you will be taking the third exit. In the video it shows an un-busy lane, it is usually v busy, so get in lane in plenty of time. Don't panic :)
Ha, visited England/Wales/Scotland a few years ago and it was freaky driving on the opposite of the road (for me) for 1500 miles. And wowser, the roundabouts! And they're everywhere! Not many I've seen in the US (Midwest, anyway). Odd too, that MILES are posted and not Kilometers. I was thinking was Ks and thought, darn this seems so long for Kilometers :-) Love the UK, been there 3 times and would love to go back.
Well, this is most useful for drivers which are not used to driving on the left hand side (Like us Europeans Main Land guys). The video does a decent job showing the rules. When it comes to recap things though, I believe it to be a slight mistake to use switched colors for "up to 12o'clock" and after - it used to be green for 1st. and 2nd. exit for the usual 1st person POV . At the very least it should have been mentioned that it shows now things from "top to bottom" POV.
Quite a good video, but some of the comments show just how clueless many learners are, so I'd have added that despite these basic rules there will always be exceptions e.g. for an exit at 1 O'Clock it may sometimes be more appropriate to use the left hand lane. Driving is not an exact science, and requires a lot of interpretation and common sense, which explains why so many people don't get it.
They just replaced a traffic signal intersection with a roundabout in my small Florida town. The only problem is that this is Florida we're talking about, and most people down here don't know what a yield sign is, much less a roundabout. So far, most treat it either as a 4 way stop or a green light where they always have right of way and don't have to yield for anyone. It's quite entertaining driving through it.
when turning 90 degrees right, you approach in lane 2, you should leave in lane 2, saves a crunch if someone is turning left from your last exit in a hurry into lane one. Never commit yourself up the inside of a vehicle on a roundabout.
UK roundabouts look so complicated compared to the ones in Australia. Looking at videos for how to use UK roundabouts so I know when I go to the UK next year, planning on driving a lot.
I understand indicating right when changing lanes before the roundabout, but why continuing to indate when already on the roundabout? It's confusing to other drivers as it can indicate that you can either take the 3rd exit or the next one and go back where you came from. And what if the roundabout has 5 exits? In my opinion, once on the correct lane you should only indicate when leaving the roundabout (left indicator). Am i right or am i missing something? Is it a legal requirement to indicate right?
You are turning right and another car has entered the roundabout on your left while you are in the centre. If there are two exit lanes, do you wait for the other car to pass, go behind it and exit into the left lane if clear or exit into the right hand lane? Real life, heavy traffic situations would be useful.
Lee Coppack hi. Check your mirror see if the car on left using left lane and if it's safe to do you can use the right lane to exit. If it's not safe you could 1. Slow down 2. Keep going round the roundabout. Hope that answers your question.
I'll be the roundabout, the words will maaaaake you out 'n' out! I spend the daaaaay your waaaaaaaaaay! Call it morning driving thru the sound in and out the valleeeeeeeey!
Question: at 5:55, why exit at the left/outer lane and not at the inner/right lane? If this is the way a roundabout is to be used, when is the inner/right lane of a roundabout exit to be used?
You should never ever exit a roundabout from the inner right lane, if you are already in the inner right lane make sure you merge into the outer left lane before you reach the exit you intend to use.
Hmm. TWO things seem to have changed since I passed my driving test a number of years ago: It USED to be - 1) Left hand lane for turning left AND straight on; Right hand lane for turning right AND straight on. 2) At TWO roundabouts I frequently use, drivers are always using the LEFT lane to drive to the RIGHT-HAND exits - including a Cooperative artic lorry today. Criminal driving! 👿
There's 340 driving test centres in the Uk. For example 1000 people take the test per month.Cost per test for car is £62 Total income per month £62 x 1000 = £62000.£62000 x 12 months = £744,000 Total income per year. The pass rate it 47% therefore 47% off 1000 is 470. Only 470 people pass per month (only 4 out 10 people pass per session). 530 people who failed have to rebook their driving test 530 x £62 = £32,860 per month on resits.£32,860 x 12months = £394,320 per year from resits. £744,000 per year on first time booking£394,360 per year on Resits This is only an estimate to show how much money they make off this flawed system, Where you are failed on the test because you're part of the 53% who have to fail and resit no matter how well you drive , the odds are stacked against you. The examiner always finds a reason to fail you, like when turning right into a side road the car was really close to the curb, you didn't check your often mirrors, bad positioning on roundabout, hesitated to change lanes right after another vehicle cut you off before a junction, gear changing, road positioning, doing 32mph on a 30 speed limit, doing 24 mph instead of 30 on side road full of parked cars on each side etc. (There's a lot of an untold stories out there, where people are failed on most pointless reasons but after resetting their test over 10 times they magically pass). When this happens to you first time you blame yourself, but after six attempts and you still fail but the reasons for failing are not consistent, you start to question the examiner decision. There is no pattern to your failure, it's all random, you can't pin point the cause of your failure your driving instructor tells you there's nothing else they can teach you and strongly recommends you change your test centre, or pick one in a rural area up North. Don't get me wrong there's people out there who can't drive because of poor road planning who need more driving lessons. But surely the percentage of the people can't drive safely can't be 53% realistically 20 to 25 percent should be the fail rate. But this will never happened because this means there will be less income from resits. I personally want to give around of applause to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for being a very honest and successful business. Keeping it Real #NumberOneHustlers.
Thank you for your teaching , more video right turn, reverse in the corner, meeting point plese up load ore helpful my exam is very nearly coming soon .thanks a lots
Could you cover the option of using lane two if you're going straight on please. Especially when there is a queue in lane one and there are two lanes exiting for straight on. Thanks.
ive been driving for 2 1/2 years now and i tend to see people not doing whats clearly labelled in the highway code they will just pull in and out as they please. They dont even wait for you to signal ive had about 4 near misses in that time where people dont bother waiting to see where you are going or signaling they will just leave it to chance and if they have to break cause of them they honk their horns and throw up their hands like you are the one at fault
Hi, maybe Im stupid, but I just cant get 4:20 uk round about rule.. Car which is turning right at roundabout is exiting roundbt into left outside line when he is leaving inside line empty and cutting all through on exit.. When he can easyly leave outside line for other cars which are turning left, and just after exiting roundbt, indicate left and take left line.. Sometimes when Im turning left ( and cars coming from the top and turning right) all people sitting and waiting till all roundbt will br clear, just bexause some idiot will decide take exit cutting all lines and go into left line
Okay this is the part I don't understand. At 4:27 a white car enters the roundabout goes to the Lane closest to the middle circle and then exits the roundabout by crossing the other lane. That just calls for a collision in my opinion.
Haha I'm from a rural area and the biggest problem are old timers who still think you don't need to signal left at the end of a right turn, who stay in the right lane for a straight ahead exit, and obviously the cliche land rovers with smashed up indicator and headlights.
I’m 17 and I can say that this roundabout is one of the easiest roundabouts out there. Other roundabouts are 100 times harder and different.

Great video! When in Barbados I was never sure when to take the left approach lane when taking a third or subsequent exit. THANKS!!

£744,000 per year on first time booking£394,360 per year on Resits
This is only an estimate to show how much money they make off this flawed system, Where you are failed on the test because you're part of the 53% who have to fail and resit no matter how well you drive , the odds are stacked against you. Don't get me wrong there's people out there who can't drive because of poor road planning who need more driving lessons. But surely the percentage of the people can't drive safely can't be 53% realistically 20 to 25 percent should be the fail rate. But this will never happened because this means there will be less income from resits. Very well explained video, thank you !
4:30, did the TTS program just cough?
Could you cover the option of using lane two if you're going straight on please.
Especially when there is a queue in lane one and there are two lanes exiting for straight on.
Thanks.
have a test tomorrow fingers crossed
The best video! Thank you so much.
I'll be the roundabout
The Words will make you out 'n' out
And spend the day your way
Is this a motherfucking jojo reference?
Helpful video, slightly strange voice though, a slow approach to the roundabout will help you make a better decision.
ive been driving for 2 1/2 years now and i tend to see people not doing whats clearly labelled in the highway code they will just pull in and out as they please.
Thank you so much
Good job! And so clear!!
At 4:35 the voice clears his throat, but isn't it an automated voice over
Exelent video about roundabouts well done
How are you supposed to negotiate a 3-lane roundabout? What do those squiggly lines at 9 o'clock mean?
very nicely explained i like it
Excellent bro........
I'LL BE THE ROUNDABOUT
Oh Man Right THE WORDS WILL MAKE YOU OUT 'N OUT
Okay this is the part I don't understand. At 4:27 a white car enters the roundabout goes to the Lane closest to the middle circle and then exits the roundabout by crossing the other lane. That just calls for a collision in my opinion.
Always check mirrors before changing direction.
Very nicely explained 👏👏👏
Some roundabouts the markings are rubbed off so it becomes difficult to know where to go. This one is clear
can you pls do more manoeuvre videos like the parallel parking one??
A lot of drivers NEVER indicate at roundabouts so always slow down and give benefit of doubt.
Nice tip. Thank you
That's because they're busy texting, or 'liking' a photo of what a friend of a friend had for breakfast on Facebook.
John Smith Nice one Hahahaahahahahaha
Haha I'm from a rural area and the biggest problem are old timers who still think you don't need to signal left at the end of a right turn, who stay in the right lane for a straight ahead exit, and obviously the cliche land rovers with smashed up indicator and headlights.
You are right !
thankyou so so much for this video. best vid ever xxxx
